I have several blogs and one is a product review and giveaway site. I HATE the layout and look of the site and have spent months trying to find something new. A couple of weeks Don got me a program that I can make my own designs and I’ve been having fun. I found a graphic I could work with and change a bit to personalize it and the layout I want but can’t decide on the color palette. I’ve sent some choices to family, friends, the team of women I have that do reviews for me as well as some PR reps that I’ve worked with in the past and have it narrowed down to 6 possibles. I’ve now opened it up to the readers to help make the decision. If you’d like to join in and give your opinion I’d really appreciate it. You can go to http://whatsthatbuzz.myweeklybeef.com/2010/10/help-decide-new-look-for-whats-that.html to see the choices then vote by letter number in the poll on the right sidebar. I’m leaving it open for votes until 7am on Monday November 1st which is when our Holiday Gift Guide will go live.
Thanks in advance.
After this I have several more to work on and may do my puppies site next. Yes they have their own blog. I’m just waiting on that one because we’re picking up a new puppy tomorrow. I subscribe to the Freecycle group online in our area and a woman posted a few times in the last month about a puppy that was available and she just posted the other day that many have asked for photos but never reply after she sends them. He was born on September 7th and the photos we saw he was adorable. He’s a black and tan dachshund/chihuahua mix so he’s a Chiweenie. I can’t wait to pick him up as he’ll fit right in with our 2 other’s Stretch (8-9 year old black and tan dachahund/chihuahua/rat terrier mix and Ellie (6 year old golden red mini dachshund)

October 30, 2010 at 8:27 pm #17506DeeLanParticipantI’m with you on that. The way they greet you when you come in from getting the mail is no different than if you’ve been gone half the day, they love to snuggle and our Ellie moans and maked squeaky noises when we rub her chest or hears in just the right spot. I get woke up on the morning by Stretch’s nose as she’s trying to get under my covers or Ellie pawing the back of my head trying to get my attention and sometimes if they sleep longer than I do I wake up to Ellie sharing my pillow with her head against mine of her chin on the top of my head.
Plus they listen better than kids do.
October 30, 2010 at 10:09 pm #1750953tdogsParticipantI don’t think I can sleep after 30 years of poochies sharing the bed and not hearing them snore or wake up in the middle of the night with the bed vibrating (thougth at first it was an earthquake) while they are running and woofing in their sleep in some doggie dream. Or my Border Collie thumping her tail in happiness chasing a squirrl or something in her sleep (but I get wumped on the face with it). And I’ve learned to sleep clinging to the side of the bed while cold noses or toes are stretching and pushing in my back. It’s so funny too – they know exactly when it’s time to get up – I swear they have watches with little alarms that say time to get up and then if you try and get them to sleep a bit later, you get these little disgruntled doggies sighs, "But Mommmmmmmmmmmm it’s breakfast time!" I have even tried blackout curtains in my bedroom so they wouldn’t know the sun was coming up…doesn’t do any good. I swear they can hear the rooster from two miles down the road crowing.
October 31, 2010 at 2:07 am #17516DeeLanParticipantThe dogs usually sleep at the head of the bed but Stretch does wind up between us at some point during the night and she likes to snuggle with Don. He gets up before I do and Ellie’s jumping to go out but sometimes Stretch will get under his covers and not come out until 10 or 11am and I end up carrying her to the door and pushing her out because I don’t want any accidents on the floor. As soon as Don lets Ellie back in she runs back on the bed and starts pawing at me to let her under the blanket so she can snuggle behind my knees. A few times if I’m too close to the end of the bed Ellie will stand on the floor with her front paws on the bed and hit it or something so it bounces and wakes me up. Of course when Don does yard work he likes to get out by 7:30 to be done before it starts to get too hot and then Ellie’s in the room whining for me to get up because she HATES it when one of us is outside and she’s not.
Usually after dinner we sit in the living room to watch TV and they get their treats. It’s gotten so they expect them and while Don’s doing the dishes (I cook and set the table, he clears the table and washes dishes) I’ll sit on the couch and Stretch will jump up, plant her front paws on my chest and stare me in the face willing me to give her a treat. We’ve gotten Ellie to ask for them and she actually looks and sounds like she’s trying to talk. Now Stretch will whimper a little trying to talk and ask for the treats also. Usually we have to tell Ellie to tell us what she wants before she’ll ask but tonight I sat down and Ellie started asking and running around looking for the treat jar. I mean she’ll jump on the arm of the couch and look on the floor behind the couch, she’ll get on the love seat which is in front of the window and look over the back of it. If she only knew the jar was in the kitchen waiting for Don to bring it in.
October 31, 2010 at 7:42 pm #17537BonbonParticipantI’m convinced of it. I’ve never had dogs before that would wake me up but when I got Frostie…a different story entirely. It was okay when I was working but once I retired and wanted to sleep a little later…uh-uh.
They don’t sleep in bed with me (I can’t stand anybody or anything in my bed) but have a great big round chair next to the bed where they sleep. The last couple of days I’ve have bronchitis and was really, really tired and wanted to sleep late but, nope! At exactly 6:45 (and you can set your watch by it), I hear "woof." Then I get about another minute and it’s, "woof…woof" and the longer I try to ignore it, the more intense she gets. The only solution is to get up and let her out. I’m not sure if it’s her need to go out and pee or she just wants me up with her. [Groan] God bless the little sweethearts.
October 31, 2010 at 7:51 pm #1753953tdogsParticipantAnd if you ever get a chance to put in a doggie door – sleeping in will be a welcome reward. Then all you hear at 6:45ish is the flappity-flap-flap of the doggie door and when you look over the edge of the bed with one eye open you will see the waggie tail of a south bound doggie going outside and then you can roll over for another ten blissful or so minutes while poochiepoos are ridding the yard of cat and squirrl smells that have come into their domain while they were diligently doing their sworn doggie duty in protecting you while you slept all night – they weren’t really snoring away – that was just a ruse to fool the burglers and such!
November 1, 2010 at 7:15 am #17546DeeLanParticipantBe careful with those doggie doors. I’m on a message board on iVillage and a woman there who lives with her sister was telling us that her sister would get up early and on a few mornings found some of the dog’s treat bags knocked over and their water bowl was very dirty. One Saturday about 3am her dog needed to go out so she took the dog downstairs and when she went to the kitchen she heard a flap on the dog door and thought it was one of the dogs but no, a racoon walked into her house. The racoon had been coming in the doggie door at night, eating the dog treats and drinking their water.
November 1, 2010 at 9:07 am #1754853tdogsParticipantsure. I hear racoons can open drawers and get into everything. I’ve had doggie doors for 30 years in our last four houses but only the woofers come in through them. And where Bonbon lives…perhaps alligators or something like that I think she may have mentioned…I’d of course would rather have a racoon visit.
November 1, 2010 at 10:51 am #17550DeeLanParticipantThis discussion reminds me, last week my sister-in-law called. They live on 9 acres and set out glue traps to catch a mouse. Her husband checked the trap in the laundry room and they not only had a mouse but a live rattlesnake. He didn’t know what to do so he scooped it into a bowl and stuck it in the freezer to kill it. The exterminator came a few days later and corrected him. It wasn’t a rattlesnake but a water moccosin. Guess it came from the 1 acre lake they have in the front of the house. The exterminator said it was probably after the mouse.
November 1, 2010 at 12:31 pm #17552BonbonParticipantIt’s possible to get some kind of critter come in.
I have to close the door at night or Frostie will be out there barking at every thing she sees or hears. And the neighbors aren’t very happy about that. We have a gazillion little anole lizzards that she barks at. The lady next door has rats on her roof even though I told her to put blocks in her gutter drains so they can’t get up there. And, of course, my infamous frogs. She barks at car door closings, anybody within two blocks talking or, I swear, if the winds blows.
I don’t have to worry about gators because my back yard is walled in but we do have coons and possums. Also armadillos, skunks and a plethora of snakes. But I’ve had a doggie door for 26 years and never had a visitor. (Watch what happens tonight after saying that.)
