TPTB need to be told that prisoners in prison don’t wear orange jumpsuits. Those are only worn in the local jails. Prisoners either wear jeans and sweats or outfits like medical scrubs. I don’t know if there’s anything significance about that but you see it is consistantly on all the prison reality shows.
I’ve been in the hospital at least a gazillion times and I’ve NEVER had a gown with long sleeves. Yet Chloe, Maggie, Nathan and Melanie all have them. Nor have I ever seen a patient wearing pants, in the last 20 years anyway. Heck, the best you can get to preserve your modesty is another gown worn backwards.
You are definitely correct on the prison clothing. I have had gowns with long sleeves in hospital, though. I think the orange is for the ‘drama’ aspect, so that everyone knows she is incarcerated!!
for all, some, a few, new audience watchers all of the time, when they do things like put all prisoners in the "OJ" jumpsuits. It’s "titillation" when people are channel surfing and you come across a woman’s prison story. Granted, we, (us major die-hard fans), all know Hope’s entire history from the time she was 8 or so years old, and we know why she is in prison. However, most people who do not know the premise of the show or watch, would stop and at least watch for a few seconds, or minutes to see why this beautiful woman is in a prison outfit. Instead of showing reality of how prisoners actually dress, (like you mentioned jeans/sweatshirts, etc.), the writers are going for a wider net of viewers to watch the show and help sell advertising. Either that, or now I look for ulterior motives in everything – OH MY Gosh…I’ve become………………………..Stefano!
In our county jail, the prisoners DO wear orange outfits in jail. As an attorney, I have had the (dis)pleasure of visiting clients there from time to time, and yep, they are in the lovely orange fashion trends!
in JAIL. I said they don’t wear them in PRISON. They wear either scrubs (often orange) or jeans, tshirts and sweats.
green balony sandwiches! My kind of justice! Love Sheriff Joe! You don’t like it, don’t do the crime! All prisons should be like that, no more big screen t.v.’s, no weight rooms, no nothing…just breakin’ rocks in the hot sun and knowing the law won! Maybe the 90% recidivism rate would drop to 30%!!!
What I don’t understand about the prison system is they provide these guys with nutritious food and exercise to make them healthy and strong so they are in good shape to fight each other and the guards. I think they had the right idea in Alcatraz to keep them fat and out of shape.
They should have jobs to do every day just as they would outside. And not just laundry and kitchen duty. Do like they used to do when they made license plates, have them actually produce something that can be sold in exchange for their keep. I wouldn’t even object if they were paid as long as most of it was kept for them until they get out.
California where the likes of Charlie Manson is even eligible for parole. The bad guys here get slaps on the wrists – instead of putting them in orange jumpsuits we ought to dip them in permanent neon orange glow paint.
I just read an article that Iowa prisoners might start making toilet paper to be used in the prisons to save money. Here’s a quote from the article.
Iowa prisons use about 900,000 rolls of toilet paper annually. Processing it in-house would save about $100,000 a year and would create jobs for about 50 inmates.
Now if they did that in all the prisons and sold it to consumers outside the prisons look at the money they’d save nationwide and look at the money they’d save. Maybe they need to look into selling it to the US Government or having those in Washington make their own TP and we might be able to save SS and Medicare.
and the White House should have to buy the genric TP made from scratchy, itchy trees – that might light a fire under their behinds! Reminds me of when I first lived overseas in France mid-sixties – you should have seen their TP! Talk about 1 ply – it was grey, so thin you could read thru it, and let’s just say it wasn’t soft on the bum! Haha!
