I just read that ABC is canceling "All My Children" and "One Life to Live". AMC will end in September of this year and OLTL will end of January 2012. I was really surprised. I don’t watch either show but they’ve been on for so long and I thought they were very popular shows. I guess General Hospital is not affected by the cancellations. By canceling these two popular shows, makes me wonder about Days’ future and the future of other soaps in general.
April 14, 2011 at 8:54 pm #22832BonbonParticipantAll My Children is really a shock. (Isn’t that Susan Lucci’s show?) But, remember, Days is the only NBC soap so we just might be lucky enough to have them keep it on.
I seriously don’t know what I’ll do if they should cancel it. I know that’s a stupid thing to say but I’ve spent more years with these characters than I have my own children!
April 14, 2011 at 9:17 pm #22836PattiParticipanthence the renewal; however, AMC and OLTL have been on the rumor wheel for quite a while now. I thought the same thing …. they wouldn’t dare cancel LaLuch (as Regis calls her), but 3 soaps that have been falling in ratings must have been the last straw. GH is doing well, and since I see no way Y&R will be cancelled by CBS, looks like those folks on B&B might be next on the chopping block. That’s still a 1/2 hour show, and always highly rated, but I really believe it’s just because it follows Y&R in the 1:30 timeslot (EST) and most Y&R fans have simply stayed with it rather than switch horses in mid-stream. I think DOOL is safe right now, but honestly, I think all soaps will be gone by the end of 2013, but then, if you believe in the Mayan calendar predictions, so might we all.

April 14, 2011 at 11:56 pm #22846luckeyParticipantmade mention a couple of times regarding the tenuous position everyone was in regarding whether the show would continue. When I saw it mentioned on the evening news tonight, it still surprised me.

April 15, 2011 at 1:24 am #22852dvalParticipantLucci is on All My Children, from day one, I think, as Erica Kane.
April 15, 2011 at 1:35 am #22853majencoParticipantNo way Days makes it to a new contract. By 2013 it’s done. I will really miss it, even the stupid stuff, it was a comfort to have the same characters in my living room every day. I wonder how it will all end.
April 15, 2011 at 12:29 pm #22863luckeyParticipantDorian on OLTL. Sorry
April 15, 2011 at 12:49 pm #22871DeeLanParticipantIt will all be a dream in Theo’s head.
April 15, 2011 at 8:30 pm #22881majencoParticipantLike St Elsewhere! That would be funny.
April 16, 2011 at 4:53 am #22894PunkyParticipantwas if getting Susan Lucci on DOOL would bring over new fans and help keep the show alive then get on it DOOL! Imagine the scenes with Kate, Viv and Erica Kane!
April 16, 2011 at 11:26 am #22898BonbonParticipantI have never liked that woman. And that’s not even a fair statement because I’ve never even watched her as Erica. But what I’ve seen of her on other shows, I just plainly do not like her. She appears to be extremely phony, especially when she was on DWTS.
April 16, 2011 at 12:11 pm #22899SWParticipantNY. She had to commute to CA for taping of AMC and I thought there was a comment about the strain it involved, so I doubt she would want to do it for another show. It might have been different if her daughter Liza was still employed @ Passions (but she moved back to NY when it was cancelled).
April 16, 2011 at 2:18 pm #22906PattiParticipantwhen they brought over Crystal Chappel from her canceled soap. Didn’t happen. As a matter of fact, DOOL has less viewers now than when Crystal was first brought on. No, I would not want Lucci to come over either. I tape AMC, and if the truth be told, I fast-forward through Lucci more than any actor on that show. Now, I have read that Alecia Minshew (Kendall Slater) has been in talks with DAYS and that she would be willing to come over to our soap. I could almost see her as Sarah Horton (Maggie’s daughter) if that were to happen. I really love AM as Kendall on AMC and would enjoy her crossing over to DOOL.
