I couldn’t even stay with it – that scene between Mags and Hope w/ the “comedic” take on Swan Lake looked to be written by someone on illicit chemicals.
I realize this was just filler but Days would have been much better off writing a holiday show with some pleasantries. This garbage is truly bottom of the barrel!

I have no idea.  I hadn’t watched in months – actually deleted about 60 unwatched eps off the DVR (I’d never have caught up watching them all) and we got *that*?  What the heck were they smoking on that episode?

that would never happen, me voluntarily missing an episode…I would have at least thought they could have cut and pasted a 4th of July picnic from "days gone by" or rerun some old episode of 4th favs from bygone eras…fans would have liked that a lot more I believe.

You know its interesting many of us complain that soap stars don’t get enough mainline exposure on talk and entertainment programs. We also complain when DAYs stars don’t get to step out of character on the Daytime Emmys and most just take up space in their seats.

Todays show gave us a chance to see the actors stretch their abilities and interact with other cast members in situations they would never otherwise  get a chance to do.  Even though I wouldn’t want a steady diet of it like the mobster sub storyline they did a couple of years ago I thought today’s episode was great. If this is what it took to give Roman some screentime I am all for it as a one day special.

I wasn’t sure if they could pull it off, but I really think they did. I was giggling all through the hour today. I feel (JMHO) someone really had a good idea and the actors did a great job.

Had to admit I was cracking up through the entire show, even though the only film I’d seen was the original True Grit.  I’m glad they can have some fun and not take themselves too seriously.  LOVED Maxine’s comment to Nicole about the shoes.  LOL!

I loved every second of it and I am sure they did many takes more than once or twice, especially Hope

cramming the cake in her mouth.

I thought it gave them a chance to shine from their usual roles and the two Johnnys there was funny too.

Give the show some slack. We hate it when plot lines drag etc etc, so this was a true breath of fresh

    air and comedic genius…

Hope they do this more often.

I loved the Hope Black Swan take since there are always so many comments on these forums about Kristian’s weight. i thought putting the twins who play JOhnny as the Winkelvoss twins was brilliant idea. And EJ, trying to speak "American English", and Nicole in the King’s Speech, while Roman got to play a guy trying to teach EJ American English/ trying to write a screenplay based on the  soap opera storylines was just marvelous. And I thoguht giving Chad the opportunity to play a pretty intelligent guy who thought he couldn’t be wrong because of his smarts, was just another great story. And I loved Theo’s little turn. I just thought overall it was a great concept and well done even though it didn’t really have much to do with July 4th other than a bunch of people trying to have a good time on a rainy July 4. And I though it addressed a lot of issues people have with characters on the show. Quite an amusing take-off I believe.  Loved it especially when Peter, as Rooster Cogburn, answered the question what are  you diong by answering" Trying to get an Emmy nomination." Not what we are used to but a quirky and amusing twist. I found it refreshing and not a repeat of the same old same old.

Roman telling EJ you weren’t born speaking wussy. Too funny.

I really enjoyed it.  Loved the twins and that Brady wasn’t allowed to talk or put his shirt on.  EJ and Nicole were great, same with Bo and his comment about his BFF who had a cool patch over his eye.  Also the way Chad was looking at Melanie and talking about her character in True Grit at the beginning.  Are they still dating in real life?  Also great to see Roman.  I just wish Jennifer was there.  I kept picturing her as one of the sister in The Fighter.  I think she used to have her hair close to the same a couple decades ago.  Love that Maxine was in there also.  I hope she stays on the show.  I see her as kind of the same role as Hurley on Lost, the lone voice that really sees that what is going on is crazy!

All-in-all I loved it but I think they missed the boat in a couple of places.  First of all, they were using contractions in True Grit and there were none used at all in the movie.  That was one of the things that made it kind of quirky and enjoyable.  And I’d say that Melanie won as best actor over-all, hands down.

I wonder how many people even knew that, oh, dang, what’s her name…the annoying one (Kinsey?), was even in the movie Social Network, it was such a small part.  She kept saying how boring it was, that made me LOL.  And I thought Chad took second best actor for his role.  Excellent.  Using the twins as the real-live twins was brilliant (it was fun seeing them both together) and having everybody, even Theo, claiming ownership of FB was very funny.  That was probably the best skit of them all.

Although I enjoyed EJ and Nicole, I didn’t get they were doing The Kings Speech until half way into it.  But, yes, it was nice to hear EJ speaking something other than his "wussy" English at the end.  He and Nicole play so well off each other, it’s a shame they can’t use that more in the show.

I didn’t see The Fighter but I thought the sisters were an absolute crack-up.  Even little Ciara pulled it off.  And Maxine in the blonde wig was too funny.

Although Hope looked great in The Black Swan, I thought that one could have been done better.  I liked that they referred to her as a skater (because of her real life experience as one) instead of a ballerina but Maggie’s part left me cold.  But LOVED EJ speaking French at the end.  I felt like Gomez Adaams…sigh!

I think it’s kind of fun to let them do things like this occasionally.  It certainly lets them show off their talents in areas we’d otherwise never see.  I loved it.  I’d give it a 95.

I never saw any of the movies they were "spoofing" or whatever, so it was all lost on me.

I thought the whole thing was stupid :(

either (except for the original True Grit) so I have to think that was a big part of my disappointment. I guess I should have watched the entire show.

and then deleted the rest of it–wasn’t my cup of tea. I agree with some of you and would have much preferred a small gathering for a picnic at Hope and Bo’s.

I loved it too, Bonbon! (and as you mentioned, especially Maxine playing the daughter in that blonde wig!)  I thought it was very clever.  I really expected to not like it at all and fast forward through it, but I was pleasantly surprised.  I didn’t see any of the nominated movies but I knew which ones they were spoofing.  I’m sure if I saw the movies I would have appreciated it even more though I did see the John Wayne version of True Grit.  It was great seeing them play other people and it looked as if they were having a lot of fun doing it!  At least they acknowledged the 4th of July somewhat!
