I got to experience a Sami moment.  I was having severe abdominal pain since last Sunday morning and finally went to the doc.  Because of my horrible past abdominal history, he sent me directly to the hospital for exploritory surgery.

First I had to get a CAT scan and they found a "spot" on my pancreas.  He was more concerned with that so then ordered an MRI.  So, you know what a "spot" is, right?  Besides, my father died of pancreatic cancer so what else would it be.  He kept avoiding the word "cancer" until I finally used it and then he stopped saying malignant or non-malignant and used the word himself.

So, now I’ve got my PCP, my GI doc, oncotologist, and surgeon involved and nobody can make up their mind if they should pursue the abdominal pain or the "spot."  I vote for the pain, the spot doesn’t hurt.  So then they do an endoscopy and find a nice large assortment of ulcerated tissue.  (Actually, I could have told them that was there but why did it all of a sudden become so extremely painful?)

The PCP wants to pursue the "spot" and get a biopsy but the surgeon says he doesn’t want to do it because its a very dangerous and tricky surgery.  (All this time I’m wondering how Sami would have been handling this.)  Not only do I have the "spot" but my pancreatic enzymes are 36 out of a normal of 30.

Well, I have taken some heavy-duty Dilauted, (DeeLan, 6mg. every six hours…IV!  Good stuff!), the pain starts to subside to where it’s tolerable.  And the surgeon, oncologist, and GI think I need to pursue that first.  The oncologist promises the PCP he will follow up with me, the elevated pancreatic enzymes, and the "spot."

Now, here I am at home…finally, waiting to make appointments with all these doctors and having to worry about the "spot" until I get the ulcers healed and all of us turn our attention to the 500-lb. gorilla in the room.  I’m sure by now Sami would have broken into every computer in the hospital.

Anyway, just in case you wondered why I haven’t posted one of my missives in the last four days, that’s why.

but you have one thing going for you, and that’s certainly a good attitude.  I don’t think I could be as upbeat as you sound about all these upcoming procedures, but I certainly do wish you the best of luck, a quick diagnosis, and a speedy recovery from whatever procedures you will face, and please know that I will keep you in my prayers.

I think that’s why I was so upset with Sami’s reaction, it’s far from  how I would have handled it.  Oh well.

Hope everyone gets their act together and works together to find the problem and it’s a quick fix.

medical issues especially so soon after your last bout.  Good grief woman you have had more than your share…please get those doctors to do everything in the medical books and then do what ever else isn’t in them to get you to feel better!   I’ll be praying for you.  It’s all I can do, but God does heal in ways the doctors could never imagine.  Take care of yourself sweetie.  BIG hugs and love sent you across the miles!

I’ll say that today I feel pretty good, first time since out of the hospital.  On the 19th I go in to swallow a camera to be able to see two feet into my small intestine.  Although you don’t want to find anything bad, you almost want them to find SOMETHING so they can at least start toward making it better.  So I’m not sure which to hope for.

I see the oncologist next week to start tests for the pancreas "spot."  Who knows what that’ll turn out to be.  Maybe I swallowed a little rock that was in my green salad and it got stuck there!
