I thought Will’s big anxiety-producing trauma was his sexuality but when he finally blurts out what’s bothering him, it’s Sami and EJ’s tryst instead. All the clues he’s been giving Marlena have translated (for me, anyway) to his confusion about his sexuality. (BTW, I loved the way he looked at Sonny’s friend…very telling and very well done, so subtle yet tacitly screaming his interest. Will this be his first "love interest"?)
I was hoping much more that he would have been looking for help with that. Why does he need to do anything about Sami? What CAN he do? I think just spilling the beans to Marlena should give him enormous relief just because he no longer has to bear the burden of being the only one to know.
Then, let’s talk about EJ overhearding "the boys’" conversation. What in the heck could he possible interpret from that. Nothing AFAIC…nothing whatsoever.
January 2, 2012 at 5:32 pm #30096PattiParticipantEven though it hurt Will to see what he saw between his mother and E.J., I don’t think that he is being truthful to himself. Right now I look at it that he is ashamed of being gay, and hiding and denying it, even to himself, coupled with the convenience of not having to reveal what is truly bothering him and being able to blame it on what he saw between Sami and E.J. It is his perfect excuse to put the shame he is feeling on that instead of realizing that he is who he is and he’s simply too afraid of what everyone will think of him. It’s eating him alive, and the sooner he admits it, first to himself, and then to his friends, who have openly accepted Sonny, the sooner he will be able to tolerate his mother and E.J.’s guilt sex. He damn well knows Sami is not a "slut" as he called her, and as much as I love CM in this role and agree that he is doing a stupendous job with it, I’m kinda’ p.o.’d that he doesn’t see that all of his haranguing on Sami and E.J. is simply a protective blanket he has placed around him where he can hide from himself and his true identity. I hope Marlena gets to the real problem behind Will’s meltdowns and is able to sort them out in correct order. Sami may be a huge part, but she is NOT the reason for it …. she is the perfect excuse for it!
January 2, 2012 at 5:55 pm #30104DeeLanParticipantI think Marlena is smart enough to know he’s not telling her the truth or the whole story. She’s know there’s been something bothering him since before she came back to Salem.
January 2, 2012 at 7:36 pm #30108shadowParticipantI know my opinion won’t matter, but if Will is ashamed of his feelings, then he knows it isn’t right(morally) to be thinking and feeling those things. It’s like a man(or woman) having feelings for someone of the opposite sex and knowing it is wrong, but going ahead and cheat on their spouse. It should be forbidden territory.
January 2, 2012 at 8:54 pm #30110DeeLanParticipantI don’t see it as Will being ashamed because he know’s it isn’t right morally. I see it as there’s a certain prejudice against being gay and his friend T only solidified his fears of that.
He’s had a hard time fitting in having Sami as a mother and he’s afraid of having one more thing on his plate that he feels he’ll be judged by.
January 2, 2012 at 9:48 pm #30111macrrParticipantWhat part of Sami’s immoral, amoral, loose, base, lustful, reprobate, and spiteful persona is not a "slut"? Are you sure you know the complete meaning of the word?
Just curious. IMO, Will was dead on.
January 2, 2012 at 10:03 pm #3011353tdogsParticipantnext to the definition was "Sami’s" picture for all of what you discribed Macrr…
January 2, 2012 at 10:58 pm #30115PattiParticipantSami may be a lot of things that you and I’m sure many others consider amoral, but a slut has never been one of them. You, nor can anyone else here, truthfully describe Sami as a "slut". She may have used a lot of people, places, things, etc., to get something (or someone) that she wanted, but being a whoring slut was not one of them. And yes, thank you, I am well versed on the meaning of the word. There are, however, some gals on this show who have been, and who still are, in every sense of the word, "slutty". You can disagree with me till the cows come home, and I will never agree that Sami has been in the past, nor is she now, a "slut". Devious, deceiptful, manipulative, neglectful of her children, yes, these descriptive words and phrases, and many, many more perhaps, but NEVER a "SLUT".
January 3, 2012 at 12:31 am #30117DeeLanParticipantAgree. Sami’s been in a relationship with every guy she’s had sex with the exceptioin being EJ who she’s only had sex with 3 times.
1. EJ blackmailed her into having sex with him to safe Lucas
2. Lucas was in prison and she was beginning to have feelings for EJ
3. EJ and Sami thought Johnny was dead and that was more, I don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t that she just hopped in the sack with him for the fun of it.
She did have sex with faux Rafe but she didn’t know it wasn’t her husband.
Now the true sluts of Salem
Kate who’s an ex prostitute. Had an affair with Bill while he was still married to Laura.
Chloe who willingly had sex with Lucas in an elevator before their first date. Had an affair with Daniel while engaged and married to Lucas. Had pity party sex with Phillip when she "thought" Daniel was having an affair with Carly
Nicole who had sex with EJ in an elevator after first meeting him. Was marrying EJ but trying to figure out how to continue her affair with Brady whom WAS the love of her life.
Billie who tried to get Bo away from Hope how many times and had drunken sex with Nick.
I’m sure there’s more but that’s all my brain can handle right now.
January 3, 2012 at 12:50 pm #30120BonbonParticipantin spite of all her "shortcomings" I have always liked Sami but I must agree that some of her actions could easily be charactized as slutty. Certainly her last romp with EJ, in spite of the reasoning, would fall under the definition. And, you have to admit (not that she’s much different than practically any other woman on the show), she has not been particularly "chaste" in her past relationships with men. Can we even count up how many she has been intimate with?
Yet, I believe Will was using the word figuratively rather than literally anyway. He picked the word out of anger as the worst thing he could think of to call her. So, don’t be too hard on those of us who agree with Will’s assessment.
Okay, now…come Bossy, come home, and bring all your friends.
January 3, 2012 at 1:01 pm #30121BonbonParticipantI’m not sure in this day and age, unless the person were very religious and homosexuality extremely anathama to them, I think denial would be their first feelings, even before confusion. Nobody wants to be different and someone finding such awakening feelings as this would most likely want to deny such a thing could be happening to them.
What I do find strange though, is that since Will and Sonny are such good friends, he would not confide in him. Certainly he knows WHAT those feelings are and who better than Sonny to help him come to grips with them, or at least understand what is happening to him. Boy, I’d be all over Sonny like white on rice if it were me.
Although we still don’t know if this is the path the writers are going down for sure, it would seem to me that, rather than go through the hell Will is now experiencing, he would confide in one person at least. And, although Marlena is the obvious choice, I’d think that Sonny would be much easier for him to talk to. I think the writers are missing a big opportunity here.
BTW, if he IS going to take "the road less traveled," Sonny’s friend is very cute and seems to be a nice guy. I hope they will pair Will up with him.
January 3, 2012 at 1:09 pm #30124SWParticipanteither confusion or a hard time with his feelings, that Sonny suspects his cousin of being more like him? I think Will has so much on his plate with Sami and what he saw that he is just compartmentalizing things and dealing with the things in his own order and way. When Sonny invited Will to join him and his friend at some party, I think it shows that he suspects Will is more like him. Just my opinion.
January 3, 2012 at 1:59 pm #30127DeeLanParticipantI think Will isn’t confiding in Sonny because he knows that he’ll have confirmation of something he doesn’t want. As long as nobody else knows or suspects Will can deny what he truely knows but once he tells Sonny and he confirms it then there’s no denying it anymore.
I’m NOT in any way saying Will is embarassed or knows this decision is wrong, it’s just one more thing about him that isn’t "normal" (mom being Sami, family torn apart, brothers and sisters with different fathers, etc..etc..)
January 3, 2012 at 2:32 pm #30129GoodyParticipantsomewhere that a slut was "a woman behaving with the sexual freedom of a man". I don’t remember exactly where I saw that opinion, but it seems a bit dated as far as the characters on Days. Everyone seems to enjoy sexual freedom! I do understand Will tossing out the word slut in his emotional anxiety; does Will even know a chaste woman!
