and finally warming up again. I had forgotten how cold it can be in San Francisco and just 50 miles south in San Jose be so hot.
It was in the upper 90s during the graduation of Santa Clara University and those poor kids sat out there in that sun for three hours…in BLACK robes. (There were over 800 graduating.) We sat in the stands so had shade for most of that time. (Side note, those graduating from the engineering school all wore hard hats in the school color; nice touch!)
Steve Wozniak gave the commencement speech and it Woz (pun on words!) one of the best I’ve heard (or read). Usually graduation speechs are so boring but even the valedictorian’s was great. It was a young man who had started down the wrong path in life and between his single mom and a caring teacher, got turned around, ending up as valedictorian of a major university. Very touching in deed. Tears ran freely.
We had a great party at the other g.parents’ "ranch" even though it was so hot out. (I think the others were more bothered by it than me because we at least didn’t have the humidity I live with here.
So, you were right, Pammi, that day was a HOT one, it even got up into the 80s in SF but then down again into the low 60 that night.
