I’m sitting here waiting for Chaos, the Great Dane to have her puppies on camera so I’ll probably be at the computer off and on all day.  (No, I don’t have anything better to do.  Watch, she won’t have them until tomorrow.)  So, I’ll probably be making a lot of comments.  Sorry folks.  You can only play so much Spider Solitare and Hearts.

If you are interest in watching, go to:  http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/great-dane-service-puppies-indoor-puppy-room

This is her second litter and they will be raised as service dogs for service people, mainly people who need a dog for stability (because they are so big).  She is VERY large so we’re expecting lots of puppies.  People who arein the know said Danes frequently have 10 – 12 puppies!!!  Poor thing.

They also have a camera on six, 3-month old puppies and we see some of their training but most of it is just play.  That is at:  http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/great-dane-service-puppies-puppy-hill  You may need a shot of insulin watching them because they are so sweet.

live cams are interesting! Thanks for sending the links, Bonbon. I’m watching Chaos now, too.

And, if anyone needs a stress-reliever, click on one of the aquarium cams and then right click your mouse to make the picture fill your whole screen. Good to watch for a couple of minutes.

She still hasn’t had her puppies.  She’s definitely ready though, she’s licking, tearing up the blankets, trying to get comfortable.  Poor thing, she is SO huge.

My collie Nessa is expecting her first litter within the week and I’m very anxious as this is my first experience. I just pray nothing goes wrong.

4 girls and 3 boys. At this time, 9:24 am ET, they are feeling to see if there are any more.

because there were so many people around during the birth (it took 12 hours from the first one to the last) but this lady had previously assisted in the birth of 51 Great Dane puppies so I’m sure she knew what she was doing.

I guess you’ve read up on what to do.  The only conflicting information I found was that some "experts" allow the mother to eat the afterbirth and others say she shouldn’t.  Apparently there is a lot of nutrition in it so it makes sense to me to do it.

Just watch the pups to make sure they don’t get rolled over on when the next one is coming because I understand the mother doesn’t pay a lot of attention when the next one is coming out.

Good luck, I hope you have all healthy little fur babies.

at 11:30 and when I got up I saw the 8th one stillborn.  It was strange because the mom didn’t want to have anything to do with it.  She wouldn’t clean it or anything.  I guess they know not to bother.  I read that when they are in labor a long time it gets more and more dangerous for the last puppies.

She just had another stillborn but they are now on the way to the vet to see if there are any more.  Also she hasn’t expelled all the afterbirth so they have to give her a Pit Shot to clean her out.  So now, labor for 19 hours!  That poor dog.  I hope there’s no more.

X-rays confirmed.  Four females, four males and two stillborn.  Mama and babies doing fine.

Those puppies are so cute.  They look like Weebles when they roll over and can’t get upright again.
