Why are John and Marlena the ones to give the newlyweds to be insight into marriage? I should think knowing the couple would be a no no.

What about the fact that Marlena is DIVORCED from Roman and remarried to John. She really wouldn’t even be allowed Communion, no less be a counseling couple!!

mentioned that she had her marriage to Roman annulled.

Marlena wasn’t a Catholic when she married Roman.  Neither were any of the Hortons.  JER seems to have convert everybody over while we weren’t looking.  In fact, I don’t believe John was Catholic until we all of a sudden found out he had been a priest…another JER fabrication.

Eric asked Hope as he wanted Bope to be the counselors but Bo was away and Hope was leaving to join him. lol  When you think about, other than Bope I don’t think there are any couples that have stayed together. Caroline was with Shawn but even she strayed.  Alice and Tom are no longer alive.  Maggie is with Victor but he’s got a huge past history and he’s Greek Orthodox, not Catholic.  Sami couldn’t do it as she’s been through way too many husbands! Who’s left?

Were Brady & Madison talking about getting married at St. Luke’s?  Both of them had been divorced.

Chloe wasn’t Catholic and I’m assuming Madison wasn’t either so wouldn’t they be considered never having been married in the eyes of the church?

the fact that the counseling couple is supposed to be Catholic–at least that’s what I always heard. Guess the show did in fact convert Marlena to Catholicism at some point.

whether the Catholic Church would recognize a marriage.  If you are married in another Christian church where God is called upon to bless the union and those religious rites of that faith are part of the solemnization of the marriage, then the Catholic Church recognizes the union as a valid marriage.  I would have to ask a priest if a Muslim or Jewish marriage is recognized because our beliefs differ in the basic understanding of whether Jesus Christ is one of the three persons of God or whether He was a prophet sent by God.

Since they only need an annullment through the church then who knows if any of them received one.  I don’t think they’re given quickly and for any reason. When my cousin was trying to get an annullment through the church after her divorce I had to fill out documents telling how ling I knew them and a bunch of other questions about things I observed aboutt their relationship.

Because it use to be that if the person you married wasn’t,t Catholic and you weren’t married in the church you’re marriage wasn’t recognized.

They should’ve just had an unknown couple do it.  There are other people in Salem besides the ones we know, right??  Would have been much more realistic, and more fair to Gabi/Nick.  Does Eric not know that Gabi used to date Will?  Can you imagine having to discuss your relationship with a member of your ex’s family???  Heaven forbid they actually pay for a couple of new actors for one episode!

since you and I were young.  I’m 62 and have witnessed a great deal of changes since I was in my growing up years.  There is still a lot that I’d like to see change, but since my faith is very important to me, I don’t "throw the baby out with the bath water" when I’m in disagreement.  It’s a lot like living with our political system…lot’s that I disagree with, but I certainly don’t want to live anywhere else!

Rules have changed a great deal and have been relaxed as far as marriages to non-Catholics.

It used to be very difficult, and the couple did not get married in the church, my parents got married in the rectory. However, it WAS legal in the eyes of the church.

Now, Catholics can be married in Christian churches, and it is recognized as long as a Catholic priest is present. However, he does not perform the ceremony.

They also can be married in a Catholic church by a priest. All of these are recognized by the church as a valid marriage.

Getting an annulment is the only way that a Catholic can get married again in the eyes of the church. It is a long, difficult process that ask extremely personal questions about the marriage. It is also costly.

Apparentl the church doesn’t get that some marriages just don’t work.

When my aunt and uncle got married (over 50 years ago) he wasn’t catholic so to be married in the church he had to sign documents that he agreed their children would be raised catholic.
