and I’m disappointed that they decided to go this route for SR. She’s a great actress, but I think her falling off the wagon would have been a much better way for this terrific actress to shine in a front-burner story. I’m wondering if they canned it when they knew they were going to let Bryan Dattilo go. In any case, although I can certainly sympathize with SR or anyone who has this debilitating disease, it just isn’t coming across for me at the moment. I hope it gets better, because I do love SR and want to see her more, but not in a storyline that’s going to keep her weak and helpless and, God forbid, in a hospital bed. Maggie should be doing something she can really sink her teeth into, and I’m just not seeing her true talent emerging with this storyline. As always, JMHO.
Not sure how far they can take this, except to show an increasing disability. I really felt, like you, the alcoholic story could have been so much more dramatic and could have involved more people. Disappointed in this one so far.
it’s just getting started so hopefully it gets better. I am just glad to have Maggie in a storyline of her own rather than just a background character.
why she’s being so difficult about it. She’s acting like it’s a big shame to have this disease and she doesn’t want anybody to know about it. And why was she giving Daniel such a hard time about getting treatment? It just doesn’t make sense. She’d had the disease for a long time so should understand what a relapse would mean as far as treatment and medication goes.
To me, this is looking just like the the direction the autism storyline went…nowhere. It’s anticlimatic and holds no interest to me at all.
Part of the treatment for MG is high doses of steroids which is something SR had to deal with when she was first diagnosed. She was upset about the weight gain and facial changes that occured and has weaned herself down on her meds over the years. I’m sure they’re going to be putting that into the storyline as well as the fact that Maggie will have to slow down and not be as active as she’s use to being. I can see this story being something that SR can bring personal feelings and insight into and hopefully the powers that be will let her do it her way to make sure it’s done right.
hoestly, I was miffed when I heard the rumors that she would be drinking again. How long has she been on the wagon? I just don’t think it would be realistic for her to do something so self-destructive, especially after eons of not drinking. Further, that SL would certainly portray this woman to be very weak in the face of adversity. And I personally don’t think the character of Maggie Horton is weak, hence, the SL not ringing true for me. At the time I heard those rumors, it sounded more like a ratings grab than a reaslistic story to me.
…alcoholism has nothing to do whatsoever with being weak or strong willed. And it is not uncommon for someone who has been on the wagon for years. It’s no harder to start drinking again after being sober for many years as it is after only one day. It’s something you have to fight every day of your life. I’ve heard enough stories at AA meetings to know that for certain.
I thought there would be much more drama in the alcoholism storyline than the MG and so far, I’m right.
Of course alcoholism is a struggle everyday. However, IMO, giving into the desire, reaching for that drink, is in fact, a sign of weakness, even if only for that one moment. I do not say this to downplay anyone’s battle with alcohol. I am a current non-smoker (23 1/2 weeks), after 28 years of smoking–cold turkey. So, I know what its like to focus every fiber of your being in NOT reaching for that crutch.
Back to the topic, I would have been very disappointed if they had taken Maggie down that road: it would have been competely against her character. Now, with that said, we all know that TPTB continuously turn our characters inside out and upside down. I just hope they keep Maggie far away from the alcohol SL.
