This is going to be long, so bear with me.  I think the funeral itself was done well, but was blatantly missing some people, IMO.  Where in the heck was Maggie, Victor, Julie, Doug, Kayla (what, no other doctors on staff for an hour or so?), Brady (especially), Theresa, Nicole, Daniel, and, most glaring of all, Justin and Adrienne, who are Will’s in-laws.  Where was their support for their son?  I know it involves who’s available to work and who’s not, as well as budget and extra salaries, etc., but these people, in particular, missing from Will’s funeral seemed extremely odd and inexcusable to me.

Seeing Ben show up with Abbey really was a bold and brazen move on his part.  I almost DID expected him to get up and speak to add insult to injury where the character is concerned.  Then listening to him jump in at the wake at the Pub when inquiring about Andre, I thought to myself….just you wait….you’ll find out only too soon who Andre DiMera is, of that I’m sure.

I did expect some flashbacks of Will in his younger years, simply because I know the show has them.  Instead we just got the one of Ben flashing back to murdering him….again!

I did enjoy the lovely eulogies made by everyone.  Marlena’s was beautiful and I loved her play on words with the game of "words" her and Will used to play, of how much she adored Will and how surprised she was to become a grandmother for the first time and then, before she knew it, she was a great-grandmother.  It was beautiful.

    Lucas talking about how Will was always there for him instead of the other way around, then referring to Will missing his concert with T to see Green Day, even though they had back-stage passes, just so Will could spend time with Lucas because he and Sami had another fight and Lucas was down and out; a bit contrived but nice anyway;

Kate was okay, but her liking to think Will was a bit like her was amusing, and something of a smdh moment for me, since Kate was a big part of how Will learned to lie and manipulate so well, which eventually led to why he and Sonny broke up in the first place….well, ya’ nailed that one Kate. You taught him well on the subject of how to break up a marriage without really trying.

Sonny’s was fine, even if he felt sorry and ashamed at leaving Will; talking about hearing Will’s last words in a voice-mail and how he would give everything to go back in time because he did love Will and was coming back to work things out.  I even liked the reference to the book "Maurice" which explaining two obviously gay men who were imperfect guys but who obviously loved one another; and his final reminder to everyone to always tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, and always have forgiveness, otherwise you may never get another chance.

Sami’s was the best for me.  I loved how Ali played Sami throughout the entire funeral; her closeness to everyone, the hug and tears with Kate, the smile and holding of John’s hand, the apology to Sonny for rushing out when he came to Marlena’s, her hugging and crying with Gabi, and then asking permission to hold her granddaughter, Ari, and then hugging her so close, and that little girl just wrapped her arms around Sami’s neck and hugged her right back; Sami’s bond and closeness with Eric, just everything about Ali Sweeney’s performance was spot on for me.  I especially loved how the camera panned over the faces of Hope, Gabe, and I think it was Kate, when Sami referenced no pain being greater than losing a child.  She gave just the right amount of sorrow and tears without any OTT acting.  I nearly cried my eyes out when she talked about her and Lucas’ bad parenting, but that Will had his bad moments too, but turned out okay; how much she and Lucas loved their son, and how Will being gone has left a hole in heart that will never filled.  Ugh, I’m tearing up just typing this!

All in all, I thought the funeral itself was very well done, from the eulogies to the placing of the yellow roses on the coffin, and Sonny’s breakdown at Will’s grave at the end of the show, which near about broke my heart all over again.  Well done DOOL and cast!!!

I agree with all you said. The actors did a fantastic job at the funeral, (although most of a Catholic funeral and eulogy takes place in church not at graveside).

I was also surprised at who was missing. I expected some reference to Billie, Carrie, and Austin wanting to be there but couldn’t make it. I agree that Adrienne and Justin should have been there, also Kayla and Steve.

Actually, Sonny, Gabby and Ari should have been sitting in front as Sonny is Will’s husband. (I know it seems picky but he is next of kin since they were married).

I really teared up listening to Lucas, Sami and Sonny. Liked how Marlena just couldn’t finish. It was well done!

Really wish ANDRE was Tony because Tony had some good qualities and a more sympathic character in his realtionship to othe characters.

You capsulized yesterday’s episode just great!  I knew it was going to be a tissue-fest, but I lost it when I saw John crying – he’s always so strong and stoic!  The "reunion-hug" between Sami & Kate was awesome.  But truly, the last 2-3 minutes with Sonny, fighting the instinct to let his knees buckle…the guilty clawing at the grave to somehow get in there with Will and hold him one more time…my god that was tortuous.  Great acting, great grief, too bad we’re losing this young man!  I really could’ve done without the Andre-interrupting-the-wake thing.  As I’ve characterized before, he’s a cartoon character – much like Susan was.  I wish they would’ve had a news blurb about Andre returning from the dead – everyone could’ve found out that way and little side conversations could’ve been had.  But snaps to Roman for cleaning his clock in one punch.  We needed more of the wake…like real memorial services…funny stories, picture boards, flashbacks, his favorite music…some of Will’s words being read.  According to the headstone (which only in soaps can they get erected immediately after the funeral), the boy was only 23.  So sad to lose the character.  But folks/viewers, can you imagine how awesome this whole thing would have played out with Chandler Massey playing Will at the time??  We all know Guy Wilson was a bad re-cast, but he did the best he could and actually looked terrified while being killed.  But Chandler…the golden boy…would’ve drove it home just a bit better…and there could’ve been more flashbacks!  These new writers have energized the characters, the show and me…I’m now taping the show again and not relying on the daily synopses.  I need to see what happens!  Bringing back the power of super couples and intrigue, tying up backstories of useless characters (Aiden?), and cleansing the show of stale SLs and people – hallelujah!!!

And didn’t we just LOVE!!! Kayla’s expression after Steve’s "caveman kiss"…methinks I hear a little burble of her hard heart softening…

Patti – how we agree so much is uncanny :)

I loved the Sami/Kate intro – so nicely done.  Those two have a LOT of history.  I agree about the Lucas contrived part.  Surely they had a REAL flashback they could have used – but, hey, what can you do right?  We’ll chalk that up to the same column with the missing parties LOL…  I know there is NO way Austin/Carrie would have missed it since he was with them in Switzerland (right?) all that time he left Salem.  Anyway………

When Andre walked in and they said "Tony" and he said "Andre" i died laughing.  ONLY IN SALEM!!!  LOL  I found myself researching Andre when the show was over to refresh my memory on what he was responsible for – and to recollect my thoughts about the TONY impersonations LOL

Not a bad show at all.

about the people that were missing, especially Adrienne, Justin and Brady. Other than that, I loved the episode too.

since he thought he was Will’s father in the early years and Will even lived with him. Should have at least been mention.

I thought the same as you about Sonny and Gabi and Ari. I thought they should have been up front and Uncle Eric should have taken row 2, LOL.
And I also was surprised at the people who were missing and even more surprised that the grass had already grown and the headstone was installed in a few hours. Most people don’t even pick them out until after the funeral and then they take quite some time to be engraved, except in magical mysterious Salem, heehee.

i am not sure that Chandler would have done any metter. Everyone loved Chandler’s interpretation of Will, but that was good Will. The writers turned him dark, so who knows how Chandler would have handled the direction theytook him in.  I also remember people commenting about Chandler’s smirk and gestures when he was on. Chandler chose to leave, that is not Guy Wilson’s fault.

From day one, most people hated him and never gave him a chance. So many epole called for a recast, we.. they got their wish. Howver, I also feel ti was the way TPTB could finish the gay storyline!

I think that Guy did a good job in his final scenes. Actually, he really wasn’t on much during the last couple of weeks. I wish him good luck in his future.

they lay down when they first cover the casket. But as for the headstone, that was totally lame. It takes sometimes months to get a stone ordered, engraved and delivered. Maybe they went to Gravestones-R-Us and bought one.

I agree, justwondering.   I can’t picture Chandler playing the darker side of Will.  I liked Chandler but with his constant smirks and overall low-key demeanor and awkwardness, I don’t know that he could have pulled it off.  I never minded Guy in the role.  I missed Chandler initially but I thought Guy did a decent job and I came to really like him in the role.  I,too, wish Guy all the best.
