Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn’t remember reading about it here.

Soap Digest reports that Josh Griffith has left "Days of our Lives" as co-head writer. February 2015 Soaps.com had reported that Griffith had joined Dena Higley in co-head writing the soap as part of the overhaul of the show in an attempt to increase ratings and give "DOOL" a shot at another year of renewal. It worked. Days was renewed for season 51 a week ago. Staff writer, Ryan Quan, once a script typist for "Passions," started as a writer’s assistant with Days in 2009, where he has worked as a writer, script writer, and associate head writer, and will take over the co-head writing position along with Dena Higley.

If any head-writer was leaving I would have wanted it to be Dena Higley, not Josh Griffith.  This sure sounds more like "behind-the-scenes" issues to me.  I now have to think JG only agreed to sign on long enough to get through the 50th anniversary.

It seems that Josh Griffith and Dena Higley don’t work well together. It wasn’t long after they first teamed up that Dena went on a leave of absence, presumably leaving Josh in charge. Now Dena has "retured" and Josh is out. I am not sure if this is a case of 2 creative people being unable to work together or simply it is too hard for 2 people to be "head", because there still has to be one in charge! Looks like Dena won.

As of now, I am very disappointed in the direction Days is headed. So much promise of "new beginnings" is starting to become "same ole" story. Killing, baby daddy, more killing, love triangel, rape. Nothing new here and really not the romance as promised!!

but I don’t think it was due to Ryan Quan.  He was a script typist for Passions, and that was all the way back in 1999.  I don’t know how far up the ladder he went on Passions, but he has been with DOOL since 2008 or 09, and has worked his way up from script typist to an assistant writer, and then he was a breakdown writer, and eventually he became the assistant headwriter, and now he is co-headwriter with Higley.  If there is any saving grace in this at all, it will be that at least Quan knows the characters and what’s been happening in Salem for the last 7 or 8 years, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it might not be as bad as it sounds.  From what I can tell, Griffith left on his own.  He wasn’t fired, but who knows?  Personally, I think he simply signed a 1-year contract to work with Higley and the returning vets to get the show throgh the 50th and help to bring back fans who left, and then he was out the door to move on to bigger and better things.  At least he has been replaced with a writer who knows DOOL and not one who needs to read up on its history and then decide to change it…again!  So, good luck to you, Ryan Quan and Dena Higley, and more importantly, for me, good luck to us, the fans!!!
