ParticipantThe last time he deserved to be suspended – but this time I’m not sure. He followed protocol (aside from the drinking at the party earlier) by asking the perp to put the gun down. Even if he said weapon… I mean – obviously Theo is autistic so it did not resonate but NO ONE would know that. Well written so far – and very topical.
One thing I never understood though with these situations – why not shoot the perp in the leg or the knee cap or something?

Participant… you are not going to stop short of ending the threat. If you factor in the adrenaline flowing in the good guy and the perp, a wound to the leg or knee isn’t going to necessarily make them drop the gun. Even if they do, they can still grab it and shoot you.
I believe normal protocol in an officer involved shooting is to suspend them until after the investigation. I don’t think JJ did anything wrong, but Abe will never see it that way being Theo’s father.

ParticipantIve been wondering if there’s a hidden agenda here. In actuality, how is JJ supposed to know that the perpetrator is autistic and takes thing literally? He didn’t. He saw what appeared to be a weapon and considering Theo ran from him, JJ had no recourse but to shoot.

ParticipantSomeone offers up Theo’s phone and you walk away without taking it? D’s plot.

ParticipantAnd, then blurt out such important information in front of other people such as Kate! What kind of commissioner are you anyway?

Participantfor a moment and think like the police commissioner he once was he would acknowledge that. I don’t blame him for how he is feeling but I think if he calmed down for a minute he would realize that JJ did what he was taught to do. Although being the 2nd time is probably gonig to make it worse for him.
BUT i guess this is what happens when you go from rookie to detective in 6 weeks or whatever the rapid timespan was LOL
