It actually hit number 2 in the ratings! This is exciting!
December 7, 2009 at 8:25 pm #8181imported_JennMParticipantWow.
Haven’t seen them 2nd in a LONG time. Story said since ’04.
The overall number of households has dropped a lot over the years now. More channels, more choices, less women staying home and watching soaps instead of other daytime shows… etc.

December 7, 2009 at 11:00 pm #8187caseyParticipantWhat would everyone attribute the rise to? The baby switch story? How ’bout the additions of the Passions actors?
December 7, 2009 at 11:07 pm #8188GoodyParticipantthe baby switch story and AZ’s (Nicole) great acting. JMHO
December 8, 2009 at 12:15 am #8191trykeryderParticipantMaybe this ratings boost will convince TPTB to renew Days. Does anyone know when we should find out about this?
December 8, 2009 at 2:59 pm #8196PattiParticipantand I’m so glad DOOL has taken over 2nd place. They really deserve to be No. 1 again, IMHO. Y&R is not that good, and hasn’t been for quite a while now. The time slot for DOOL is right in-between Y&R and B&B, so many of the fans who watch Y&R simply continue to stay on ABC and watch B&B, but the stories on DOOL this year, especially the baby switch, has brought fans back in droves. Also, a lot of people who were avid fans of Passions actors continued to follow their favorite stars to DOOL, and the same thing is happening with Crystal Chappel fans. She brings a huge fan-base with her, so thank you Crystal, as well. Then, the return of Louise Sorrel has lit up the boards, and people are chomping at the bit waiting for Vivian’s real reason for returning to Salem take center stage. Although AZ has been absolutely marvelous, I think a lot of people are growing tired of the baby switch story and now want to see it end (with the Christmas miracle, of course) and then move on to bigger and better sls. Of course, I will be hoping that Ari Z. returns to a sl with some redeeming qualities for Nicole on the horizon. I would love to see E.J. find a way to forgive Nicole, and possibly realize that he is still in love with her, although I’m not holding my breath on that front. I do think we’ll be seeing some great new stories in the upcoming year, but even more importantly, an announcement from NBC that DOOL’s contract has been extended for at least another couple of years. Then, who knows, here’s looking forward to once again seeing DOOL return to it’s rightful place in soaps…at the very top! (JMHO)
December 8, 2009 at 11:13 pm #8215redessaParticipantLooks like ATWT just got cancelled!
December 9, 2009 at 12:50 am #8216daysfanforeverParticipantActually Patti, the timeslot for Days is different everywhere, here where I live Y&R comes on at 11:00, B&B comes on at 12:30 on CBS and Days comes on at 1:00 on NBC.
December 9, 2009 at 12:22 pm #8223BonbonParticipantThat’s kind of scary. Whenever another soap hits the dirt, it make me concerned for Days. I don’t know what I’d evere do if it were cancelled. This addiction for me is stronger than any drug known to mankind. Someone please hold my hand.
December 9, 2009 at 1:16 pm #8228June66watcherParticipantHigher rating could be because of the high rate of unemployment. So many folks are home now and can tune into the show that has a link to their memories. Adding the returning cast members to the cast is drawing in those who ‘gave up’ being avid watchers ?? And makes you wonder if there could be more reappearing cast members to solidify the ‘deal’ when it’s contract renewal time with NBC !
December 9, 2009 at 2:21 pm #8232IzzyBParticipantBut every time I have seen a soap cancelled, it has always been the bottom one in the ratings, right? Where Days has never hit rock bottom… it could have for a week or too, because I don’t pay attention to the ratings each week. Of course that bottom gets closer whenever there is one less soap in the mix.
December 9, 2009 at 2:28 pm #8235PattiParticipantare the lowest rated. Guiding Light was dead last for a very long time, and As The World Turns has seen poor ratings for longer than anyone cares to admit. With DOOL being the only soap left on NBC, and ratings beginning to soar in the right direction, and a couple of other soaps being downsized, or even moved out of their original home of many years (AMC moving to L.A. in January), I’m thinking that DOOL is in pretty good shape. There will ALWAYS be soap fans, and the ones on top are not about to shoot themselves in the foot by canceling their soap and losing literally hundreds of thousands of viewers. JMHO.
December 9, 2009 at 2:37 pm #8237PattiParticipantI didn’t count on. Here in Maryland, Y&R has always been on ABC, and runs from 12:30-1:30p.m.; and B&B follows right behind it from 1:30-2:00 p.m. (which, by the way, I can’t believe it’s still only a 1/2 hour). Days, which is on NBC, is shown from 1:00-2:00 p.m. As a matter of fact, since I am a Y&R watcher, I watch from 12:30 – 1:00, then switch to DOOL. Of course, all of the soaps I watch are on SoapNet, with DOOL now starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by Y&R at 7:00 p.m., then AMC at 8:00 p.m., then OLTL at 9:00 p.m., and GH at 10:00, so it’s easy to catch up on any shows you miss, if you watch more than one soap, as I do. Of course, if there’s something I prefer to watch in prime-time, like last night’s Biggest Loser finale, then, of course, there’s always the good ole’ DVR, which I find the best TV tool ever invented.
December 10, 2009 at 4:20 am #825953tdogsParticipantI’d be right the boo-hoo-hooing with ya Bonbon…my 20th year of watching is coming up this June 28, 2010 – (I
know a lot of people that have watched a lot longer than that!)…I couldn’t imagine a day without "Days". Thank
goodness for DVR’s or I’d never go anywhere between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. M-F. I know I FF’d a lot sometimes
but still loyal after all these years – I think that all of us should start a letter writing campaign now to NBC to let
TPTB know how much we love our dear ol’ soap – an ounce of prevention as they say…
December 12, 2009 at 2:17 am #8330daysfanforeverParticipantWell, if you go back to the tvbythenumbers website, Days lost 300,000 viewers last week. On the other hand, the person put a picture of the Dimeras! (Tony, Stefano and EJ) Check it out.
