I’m considering purchasing a tablet. Never had one, so hoping you guys can offer advice. I would use it mainly for internet and a few other applications. Kindle Fire is what I was looking at, being cheaper, but I’ve read some had problems with Wifi connection. Ipad is pricier and there’s also Nexus which seems to be the current darling.
For you who have web with your tablets, what is the best and what cost?
Thanks!August 19, 2013 at 10:20 am #40837BonbonParticipantprice-wise. All I can say is I’m very happy with my iPad. My first experience with an Apple product and I am pleased. It has some small things you can’t do (or I just haven’t figured out how to do them) but, all-in-all, for what I do, it fills the bill. I have a friend who uses it for EVERYTHING, work, personal, etc. I’m amazed at how much he has on there.
That said, I think (in my case anyway), if I were buying one now, I think I’d probably lean more toward getting the convertible type (can’t remember what they are called) where you can disconnect from the keyboard and it’s a pad. I think I’d still go for an Apple. Since I don’t have a laptop, that would fill the bill for both. But, that’s a personal choice.
August 19, 2013 at 1:41 pm #40840DeeLanParticipantA Toshiba Thrive and an Asus. The Toshiba is a 10 inch but I felt it was too big to throw in my purse when I went out. Don recently got me a 7 inch Asus which is nice a portable.
My favorite is the Toshiba because it’s easier to navigate and read my favorite forums and Facebook due to the larger screen. When I was in the hospital I took the larger one and could stand it up and actually post to Facebook and send emails with little problems.
The reason I didn’t go with Apple was price. The Toshiba is an android tablet and it’s the honeycomb version that was built for a tablet not for phones. The Kindle Fire is android but it’s an older version (built for a phone) that Amazon built on and it can be proprietary as far as some apps go.
There are also Windows based tablets that I’ve heard people having a lot of problems with..
I guess it all depends on how you plan on using it.
August 19, 2013 at 1:49 pm #40841MKParticipantI have both an I-pad 3 and a 7" kindle fire. I hardly use the Kindle Fire as it is small and I did have some issue going to certain websites. When I am home, I use my I-pad all the time. I do have to say that the Kindle fire has outstanding sound (better than the Ipad in my opinion) and a great picture. Before buying my Ipad last year, I debated between that and the 8.9" Kindle Fire but ended up going with the I-pad. But I am so happy I chose the Ipad. I bought it on Amazon for $520 or so and had a $200 gift certificate so I paid a little over $300 which was so great! The 8.9" Kindle fire goes for $269 at Amazon. The Ipad has an amazing picture, it’s a great size and very proportionate. The sound isn’t bad either and it’s fast.
I use the Ipad primarily for surfing the internet and playing games. I do watch an occasional movie on it. It is lightning quick most of the time in connecting to my wi-fi at home. Sometimes it is a little slower depending on the connection but still not bad at all. The Ipad 3 has a retina display screen which supposed to give it a much better picture than the Ipad 2 but I really couldn’t see a difference when viewing my brother-in-law’s Ipad 2.
Price will also depend on what GB you get. Mine is 16 GB so it was cheaper as I don’t need a ton of storage since I use it mostly for surfing the internet. I think even for the i-pad 2 you will pay around $420 and for ipad 3 about $480-500 (I was checking out prices a few weeks ago just for the heck of it). There’s is also the newest Ipad 4th generation. You should check out all the prices on Amazon to get a good idea. I debated ordering it on Amazon since it is an expensive item to have shipped to my house, but I’m so glad I did. I didn’t have to pay tax, no shipping cost, just had to sign for it.
I guess it ultimately depends on what you can afford to get. If you can afford it, I think you will probably love the Ipad. I’m still curious what the kindle fire 8.9 inch is like (I don’t know anybody who has that one) but I am so very satisfied with my Ipad. I hardly use my laptop at home anymore!
Hope this helps you!
