Allison Sweeney posted this on Facebook a little while ago. She said it’s a behind-the-scenes story about the gorgeous, lovely and talented Deidre Hall.
Alison Sweeney So, I recently sang a lullaby to Sidney on Days. To the tune of "Rockabye, Baby". They aren’t my lyrics. Deidre Hall sang it to me as Marlena, when Sami was on death row, back in… what? 1997? And I think back on Dee’s depth and emotion in that scene often. Anyway, it moved me so deeply when Dee sang it – it wasn’t in the script – so I was totally caught off guard, and so I asked her about it. She told me she’d made up the words and sang it to her boys as children. But she suggested I write my own lyrics for my children some day. Which I have. Ben & Megan each have their own version of Rockabye Baby. But here is the original, which I have sung twice, once to Grace as she was dying, and once to Sidney. I thought it was appropriate that Sami sing her mom’s lyrics.
Rock-a-bye Sidney,
sent from above,
God’s little angel,
mom’s little love,
now that you’re with me,
skies will be blue,
’cause God’s dearest angel,
sent me to you.
