SO I think AI is going to be good this year! I’m not sure about steven Tyler though, not sure I like him yet. I do like Jennifer. and Randy is the same old Dawg! I already have some favs! I love that guy that was in the wheel chair when he was little, he was really good, and I loved the last guy. The women were good too, I liked that one that opened up her top and had stars on her boobs! lol…not for that but she was a good singer. and that little girl from NC, with the thick accent and her imitation of Randy, YO-YO Dawg! that was hilarious. there were a few others that I really liked but cant really remember them. I think we’ll have a great season!
January 20, 2011 at 6:52 am #20215DeeLanParticipantI had my doubts about Steven Tyler but after seeing him I think he’s rather amusing and good. I could do without all the "Steven Tyler cliche’s" though. He was honest with the contestants without being hurtful and even though we did see some tears as some were leaving I didn’t see one yet that was cussing into the camera and using obcene gestures. Looks like those were only used for Simon and then Kara when she was on.
I was afraid J Lo was going to be too much like Paula but once she got use to telling someone no she had no problem being honest and telling them they really didn’t belong there. It’s nice to see a panal of judges that are performers and know what it takes to be on stage singing to a large audience.
Randy seemed a bit more mellow this season and more like the Randy of the first few seasons. It seemed like he was taking on the personalities of Simon and Kara the last couple of seasons and now that he’s not competeing with them he’s more like himself again.
I really thought I wouldn’t be enjoying Season 10 but after last night I’m looking forward to seeing them in Hollywood and after and hearing their critique of the performers. I do think 2 hours is an hour too long though.
January 20, 2011 at 12:53 pm #20223BonbonParticipantalthough I’ve never been a fan of AI, because I really like JLo, I watched last night and was VERY disappointed. I was really hoping to like it but, to me, all it was was The Stephen/Jennifer/Randy Show. It was like all they were doing was trying to promote themselves to the audience and make themselves look good. It felt like they were thinking, "look at me and see how good I’m going to be on this show." Sorry, but I won’t be watching any more. But I hope you guys are happy with the new folks. I’m going to stick with Paula, I enjoy that show much more.
January 20, 2011 at 3:30 pm #20227PattiParticipantSteven Tyler and J-Lo. It’s about time they cast judges who are industry icons and can spot the good ones right off the bat. I thought Steven was funny and got right into the role. J-Lo was a bit shy at first and I thought, "oh, no, another Ellen who doesn’t want to tell these people no," but, then she warmed up to the job and got swept up in it herself, giving good critiques, yet letting people down gently, which is how it should be. My favorites were the last girl from the first round (was she the one from Kosovo), and the last guy of the second half. He was terrific. Lots of talent, 51 golden tickets on the first audition. Hopefully, these new judges will be honest, fair, and use their experience to critique, and leave the antics to people like Simon and Kara. Looking forward to a great season.
January 20, 2011 at 3:44 pm #20229DeeLanParticipantI agree. I felt in the past Kara and Randy were trying to come down to Simon’s level and be as insulting as possible, for them. I liked Simon and I’m sure many tuned in for his insults but was that really good critiques of the contestants. I thought Steven Tylor was very good in the advice he gave some of the contestants last night and hope he can continue with that when they get to Hollywood. Jennifer was also honest and you could tell when she wanted to say no but didn’t want to be the first one as she always deferred the voting to the other 2 before she made her decision. I’m sure with more experience in this she’ll get in the groove and won’t be afraid to speak first.
If I remember from past seasons the judges were able to guide the contestants and during the week when they picked the songs for them to sing they could actually help them prepare. I think the new judges will get in there and actually do an awesome job of getting them ready for that weeks performance, especially Steven Tyler as he really seemed to be enjoying himself.
There was an energy last night that was missing the last few seasons with Simon and Kara and even before with Simon and Paula. Almost like they didn’t really want to be there.
January 20, 2011 at 5:12 pm #20236caseyParticipantI’ve watched AI every season. On the plus side, so far the talent seems to be better than last year. I really like Tyler and I was hoping his critiques would be as good as the first contestant, but didn’t hold up quite so well as the show continued.
Jen was sweet and I agree in the Paula mold and I’m interested to see if/how she will evolve as the show goes on.
I’m looking for more technical Xs and Os regarding delivery, vocal strength, phrasing etc, from both newbies, but maybe this will come once the finalists are set.
But definitely a refreshing change from the last couple years. AI needed this overhaul.January 21, 2011 at 5:46 pm #20251NoraParticipantI just watched American Idol from last night. I must say I’m getting really excited for this season! Amazing talent, esp from the crap we had to listen to the past 2 or 3 seasons. I think a girl is going to win this year too. they are really good. a couple that I really liked today, the blonde girl with the big lips, and the last girl. I also loved that guy with the hair and the 15 year old boy. lots of young ones this time!
January 21, 2011 at 6:58 pm #2025453tdogsParticipantactually gave me a headache watching it – guess I’m getting old, can’t stand that screaming or screeching when some people think they can sing (or just want their fifteen minutes of fame) – it was fun to watch the first few times, but there should be a judging before the judging to actually weed those folks out – a little of the comedy relief goes a long way.
Last night, the last singer brought tears to my eyes with her story. Good singer too – a little rough, with practice and a singing coach, she could be a contender given some pointers for sure!
Steven is a good judge – I love the way he gets into the music with the hopefuls, but my goodness, he has had a lot of work done, I thought he looks a bit like Joan Rivers in drag. (And I love Arrowsmith!).
January 22, 2011 at 2:19 am #20273DeeLanParticipantThey do have to pass an initial audition before they get to the 3 celebrity judges. I had a friend who auditioned a few years ago in Birmingham, AL and he never made it to Simon, Randy and Paula.
I think they let a few of the goofy ones through so they’d have something for the show.
