I just started watching idol tonight, and man that last kid with the speech impertinent was fanominal!(sp). Then there was a little girl that was really good she did sort of a scat thingm but I really liked those two but aga I just started watching and it’s 10.
January 31, 2013 at 3:01 am #37545NoraParticipantWow I must say the last 3 contestants were amazing. That girl the guy with the speech problem and then the very last kid was absolutely amazing!!!!! heck it might turn out to be a pretty good year yet, I hesitate to say that I am getting excited about it again!
January 31, 2013 at 1:43 pm #37547caseyParticipanta very strong lineup last night. One improvement I see is far fewer embarrassing loser auditions of people seeking out their five minutes of fame.
And I continue to very much like Keith Urban.
I still am not watching 100% but once the selections are made I will probably tune in full time.January 31, 2013 at 2:23 pm #37551PattiParticipant49 people went through. It’s gotten a little better and the judges didn’t make me want to throw up last night, so I guess that’s something. I can’t get through these audition phases, so I don’t pay much attention to them and don’t really start watching until they’re over. Talk about scripted performances, all of these auditions on all of these reality shows are. Then they sort of settle down and get serious about the real talent.
February 7, 2013 at 3:12 pm #37693PattiParticipantand very unfair to the contestants themselves. They are nervous, true, but it’s not easy for everyone to harmonize; regardless of the song choice, and even if they don’t know the song (which they choose by the way) everyone cannot sing in the same key; and it serves no purpose, because groups are not a category to go to finals. Consequently, some very talented performers are sent home because they cannot perform as a group. It’s a useless guide for who’s talented and who’s not, IMO. I felt so sorry for that last young man who was sent home, because he was really, really good in his individual audition.
February 7, 2013 at 11:04 pm #37704caseyParticipantin that “country queen” group were at a disadvantage for sure. But for others who lost the lyrics, there is no excuse for not memorizing them. The music biz is tough and you have to be able to jump into the fire.
I do think the ability to harmonize, which even if not needed as a solo artist is a key to a well rounded and skilled singer. If you can’t harmonize, in my book that’s a weakness in your musical arsenal.February 8, 2013 at 6:39 am #37713DeeLanParticipantI don’t see the group night as them looking for that perfect performance but rather how they do under the pressure but more how well they can work with other people and most importantly people with personalities that clash with theirs. As one of the judges pointed out last night, if they make it then they’re going to have to work with all types of people so they’d better start now.
February 8, 2013 at 1:38 pm #37714caseyParticipantthat insufferable Niki who really came down on the short guy for constantly referring to overcoming his “vertically challenged” struggles. He was far too emotional to make it on this show.
February 8, 2013 at 2:44 pm #37718PattiParticipantare breaking down really, really hard this year. Yes, Niki can really be cruel in her critiques; yet, at other times, she’s very sympathetic. She’s hot and cold; one never knows what she’s going to say. Mariah is a softie and it seems very hard for her to be harsh or extremely critical of anyone, which I think is a good thing. These kids know when they didn’t do their best. I don’t need to be listening to a female Simon Cowel every week.
February 8, 2013 at 11:12 pm #37725caseyParticipantI could sit in that seat and do as well. She says nothing interesting nor anything of a vocally technical nature. She’s one of the very best and should know this stuff. I’m hoping she lends some muscial insight once the lineup is set.
February 9, 2013 at 12:16 am #37730PattiParticipantto an argument with Niki. I’ve read articles that those two really do NOT get along. Mariah may not say much, but I agree with her way more than Nike, she seems like a sweet person. I think when she can get her critiques in, they are honest and to the point. She doesn’t ramble on and on and on like Nike does.
February 22, 2013 at 2:52 pm #38042PattiParticipantgetting down to final 10 girls and 10 guys. From the first round of eliminations, Wednesday for girls, last night for guys, so far the girls are so so much better than the guys, IMO. Judges are getting better, too, now that they are at this point. Nikki is still a little too OTT, but she’s much better than she first appeared. It just doesn’t seem like the talent is as great as it used to be, but I’m still interested in watching it, for now at least.
February 22, 2013 at 8:51 pm #38056NoraParticipantI’m more interested in watching it now too patti. I think the girls did alot better than the guys, i know one thing, I hope that one young guys goes home fast, he’s a pretty good singer, but his womanizing attitude is disgusting! I didn’t watch the whole guys elimination, plus I havent watched any of the show until this week. I still don’t know who the hell Nikki is, is she a r&b singer or rapper? she is still way ott, I really liked that one girl, I can’t think of her name. She had long brown hair, really pretty, sang country. Wore kind of a suit style outfit. I thought she did a great job, but the judges said she wasn’t emotionally connected to the song or something like that. Other than that I think they were good with the girls.
February 23, 2013 at 1:51 pm #38076caseyParticipantis actually a mega successful hitmaker, probably more of a rapper than anything else. Came into the big time over the past 2-3 years. I think I read where she had something like 7 songs on Billboard 40 at one time. She’s also known for outrageous fashion as you can see.
As for AI so far, totally agree the boys are far behind the girls. Of the judges Mariah is finally better, but seems to have a tougher time expressing herself. Not sure she’s the sharpest tool in the box.
I’m still most impressed with Keith Urban and although Randy doesn’t shine, he seems to be the one who sees the faults.February 23, 2013 at 2:10 pm #38078BonbonParticipantapparently she is a very shrewd businesswoman. And did you know she has sold more records than any other female…ever? I was really amazed to find that out.
There was an article about Micki in the paper the other day saying she didn’t like to hurt people’s feelings by criticizing them but that’s what the producers want so that’s what she does.
