I only saw Lincoln (somewhat of a disappointment except for the acting) and Life of Pi, which IMO was an incredibily great movie and deserved every award it won. I thought Speilberg and John Williams deserved to win but not as much as Ang Lee and his musical score writer…can’t remember his name. In fact, a lot of them last night deserved to win, but, only one can, except for that one tie.
I thought Seth did a pretty good job as host. Not as good as Bob Hope, Johnny Carson or Billy Crystal but much better that the last few years’ hosts, especially Ricky Gervais. I don’t find him one bit funny, in fact, kind of replusive (or was that The Golden Globes?). I loved the "We Saw Your Boobs" song. However, I thought the ABC pre-award show wasn’t very good and E’s wasn’t much better.
ALL the dresses were fabulous. I didn’t see one that I didn’t care for. Even Helen Bonham Carter was wearing a nice "normal" one. Wasn’t Charlize Theron just the most beautiful, charismatic, "real" person there? I absolutely adore her. My son will say the same thing about Jennifer Lawrence. I told him she’s younger than his daughters but that didn’t make much difference to him. :o) But then, his wife is 15 years his junior also.
Anyway, good show. It’s about the only award show I find worth watching.

I do love Seth’s voice – so clear and listenable. I agree Gervais was downright awful and I also did not like the times the Oscars went with multiple hosts.
I absolutely loved Charlize’ outfit and short do and also Jennifer Aniston’s “wow” red gown.
But sorry Meryl Streep – you are the bomb as an actor but you cannot dress. Talk about heavy, DOWDY, dumpy garments. They are all the same with these big shoulders and no real fashion sense.
I liked Daniel D Lewis’ acceptance speech. Funny and touching.February 25, 2013 at 3:01 pm #38105luckeyParticipantin fact, I didn’t realize how late it was until I glanced at the clock and saw that it was already 11:30! Seth was okay…funny at times, but not so much at others. I’m not so sure that the Star Trek segment was such a success…it had it’s moments, but not enough. Ricky Gervais is a totally obnoxious idiot…in my opinion.
As for the gowns…more winners than losers. My favorite was Halle Berry. She is one very attractive woman and that dress was made for her for sure! I think they should have eliminated the last song between Seth and Kristin Chenowith. The show had gone overtime by about 30 minutes and a quick "good night" would have been the way to go. The cast of Les Miserables’ performance was outstanding! Loved Adele and, of course, Barbra Streisand! And Shirley Bassey hit it out of the park in beautiful style! Jennifer Hudson has a great voice, but all she does is shout and scream…so much so that you can’t understand the words that she’s singing. She looks gorgeous! All in all, I’m glad I stayed up to watch it.
February 25, 2013 at 3:48 pm #38106PattiParticipantbut was really rooting for Silver Linings Playbook to win more than it did. My heart went out to Jennifer Lawrence when she fell on the stairs, but she handled the embarrassment very well. I thought Seth Macfarlane was adorable, and did a good job for the most part. I also did not care for the Captain Kirk nonsense, and would have rather heard Seth singing or dancing. He is a very talented young man on his own, but poor thing got slammed in the media reviews. Kelly Rippa was right, he does look like a grown up Peter Brady.
I think Reese Witherspoon looks gorgeous in royal blue, and Jennifer Anniston in red, but I did not care that much for that deep purple on Jennifer Garner. As for Jen’s husband, Ben Affleck, I adore him but wish he would have appeared clean shaven for this event. Maybe it was his statement. LOL! His speech was confident as well as a bit choking. How can Argo win best picture and Ben doesn’t even get nominated for best director? Seems like he was a little more than just snubbed to me. I was especially glad to see how healthy Michael Douglas looked. All in all, everyone looked gorgeous, and I thought it was one of the better Oscars presentations in a few years.
February 25, 2013 at 4:28 pm #38107BonbonParticipantShe always looks frumpy and matronly. And we know she can look good because of roles she’s played where she looked great. Look at The Devil Wears Prada and 101 Dalmations. She desperately needs a new stylist.
But you know who was the most amazing, even though I don’t much care for her? Jane Fonda. She is 75-years old! That woman must have a picture of an old woman in her attic.
February 25, 2013 at 4:30 pm #38108BonbonParticipanthurt her arm when she fell. Did you notice her holding it for a second. Maybe the adrenelin took over. Although I haven’t read anything about it this morning.
February 25, 2013 at 5:08 pm #38109caseyParticipanthad some work done on her face but that body is rockin! I think she has always kept in shape which is the key.
February 25, 2013 at 6:37 pm #38113BonbonParticipantcome out looking like Joan Rivers. That face would scare people even when it isn’t Halloween.
