I watched the first episode last Thursday and loved it. This is one of my favorite shows. What an assortment of colorful characters this year! Even more so than usual I think. I find it unbelievable what these designers can do; from coming up with an idea to shopping for the materials (I could never make quick decisions like that), and then executing their designs in a day or so. Not to mention the fittings with the models, the make-up consultations, and the little interviews they give. The pressure is enormous and even I get nervous and I’m sitting comfortably at home!! I wonder how or even if these people sleep. They get back to their suites so late, it must be hard to turn off their minds even if they are utterly exhausted.
Even if I don’t like an outfit they make, I admire the work that goes into it. I give them a lot of credit. Can’t wait for Thursday’s episode, even though I don’t watch it until Friday or Saturday.
Anybody else watching?
July 23, 2012 at 8:55 pm #34498BonbonParticipantI’m often wondering if they don’t actually have more time to spend than they lead us to believe. There is only one show per week yet they make it seem like they finish everything in just a day or two. Uh-uh, I don’t think so. If that’s the case, what are they doing the rest of the time? I also wonder if a lot of the "stress" they exhibit is real or just put on for the show.
I have done a LOT of sewing in my lifetime but wouldn’t have the slightest idea how to put something together without a pattern to follow. And I’d pay BIG money to be able to shop at Mood…OMG, what a place!!! The only place to buy fabric around here is Joann’s and they are EXTREMELY limited.
This year I think the heavy-set guy (forgot his name and probably the only guy who’s not gay) is going to win. He had the white suit with that incredibly-made pink rose-shaped top. That outfit was amazing and I can’t believe he didn’t win this round. Even Mondo (Mongo?) from last year said he was a front-runner.

As far as how long they have to work on an assignment, I’m thinking that maybe since all of this is filmed ahead of time, they really do only have a short time to make the clothes; Lifetime just spreads out when they air the episodes.
I do think the contestants often lay on the drama pretty thick for the cameras!

That one guy – is it Chris maybe? – could be a dead ringer for Micheal from last year.July 24, 2012 at 1:11 pm #34513MKParticipantI agree, Bonbon, that Ven (I think that’s his name) will win or at least finish in the top three. His clothes are incredible and original. He definitely should have won in the first episode.
July 24, 2012 at 1:16 pm #34514MKParticipantCan’t wait until that candy episode! I love candy and watching them make clothes out of it will be amazing. I think they had one other candy episode in the past, where some designers used the wrappers from the candy for their designs. I’ll have to make sure that I’m eating chocolate during this episode because watching this whole show revolving around candy, will make me crave it, big time!
And it’s funny that you mention that one guy looking like Michael. It didn’t even register with me until my mother said that he could be Michael’s brother. They do look alike.
July 24, 2012 at 2:25 pm #34522annieoParticipantIt’s not his looks, it’s the cadence in his voice. I think the Japanese guy is wacko! I don’t see him lasting but a few weeks. They always keep a few around longer than need be for the drama. I thought the white outfit was fabulous as well as the cocktail dress and then he (Ven) didn’t win. Chris wowed them with one dress but not necessarily the other. Always cracks me up to see the judges and what they themselves wear and the hair (red French braids). I know we only see a small portion of their comments which are "honed down" to just enough for TV so we miss alot. I also thought of the bottom two the other one should have been the one to go. I always figure they can see things up closer and I my tv isn’t large nor hi-def so I figure they can see the detail much better, hence their decisions. But I love the show. I just hope Heidi doesn’t get as snarky towards the contestants like she did last year. Supposedly this week two of the designers just pick up and leave in the middle of the night. I read that in TV Guide I think.
