I watched yesterday’s show today and did notice the mask. That wasn’t an oxygen mask but the masks they use for CPAP, anesthesia as well as masks for ventilating a patient during CPR. The problem is, you need a tight seal and that requires having you hand(s) grasp the maks at the bottom close to the chin and pressing up. This holding the mask in place with 2 fingers is rediculous.
The reason they intubate during surgery is for 2 reasons. Easier to get the gasses down with less chance of inflating the stomach AND to protect the airway in case something happens such as vomiting and if the patient stops breathing or doesn’t start after surgery they don’t have to rush to get the tube down.
I have my own internal rage when I see things like this because most shows, especially medical ones have a medical consultant. A friend of mine was a nurse and she’d get upset when they’d have IV tubing hanging upside down.
