I thought the whole idea was very silly. Like these women would actually meet to discuss books. Nicole, really? Adrienne switching dougnuts, the entire dialog so trite and contrived. Who would make such a big deal about the doughnuts? I mean even before they ate them, they certainly looked pretty ordinary to me. I guess it was supposed to be “campy,” a throwback to the 70s – marijuana-laced brownies – but I thought it was all just dumb and not particularly funny. And we haven’t even gotten to the reactions yet!

    Doughnuts = Alice Horton

Book club was a good cover for me. For what other reason could you bring this specific group of ladies together? I loved Hope’s stunned reaction to Nicole being there. And all the ladies and Nicole trying to fit in. LOL!

When JJ made those doughnuts I was wondering if the batches would get switched and then Adrienne, still on her mommy-love high from her convo with Sonny, saving JJ’s butt with his friends by swapping out his "ugly" ones…loved it!

Not cheesy at all. Totally soapy!!

    edited to add:

And what was that last comment as the scene faded? "Yum, I think you got the recipe down pat." ROFL!!!

they can’t see the weed in the donuts? That’s why you put it in brownies, so you can’t see it. Wouldn’t you wonder what all that green stuff is?

But I can’t wait to see their reaction once it hits. Yes, it’s silly but we can use some silly every once in a while.

but no way would this group in my way of thinking form a book club.

mayve it is just an excuse to get together for "girl’s night". Did you notice that everyone of them were buying wine for the get together!!

I really liked the scene. I bet it was a lot of fun for them to film. We could use some silliness once in a while. Wasn’t it appropriate that the book was Alice in Wonderland!!!!

It was good of JJ to call cabs and wach the evidence away.

I said the same thing on the other board. Those lovely yellow cake donuts would look a little odd with “oregano” flakes all through them although I did enjoy the scene. I loved Julie with the handcuffs! and Nicole, snarky and insecure as ever. And I loved the look on Jen’s face when she realized there were no more donuts on the plate. And Kayla downed that whole jar of peanut butter! Even JJ thought it was kinda funny (or maybe just the actor was getting a kick out of it), which it was, until everyone figures it out and then hopefully the sh** will blow up in his face.

..those scenes were freaking hilarious!  Kayla with the peanut butter jar, everyone having cottonmouth, Julie and the handcuffs, worrying about the doormouse, and on and on.  I’m sure they had a blast filming and I’d LOVE to see the outtakes/bloopers.  (No, I’m not advocating getting stoned, but I did attend high school in the 70s.)

My girl Nicole has the Salem brain and is starting to figure out what happened.  But loved it when she asked JJ if he was in the book club too.  Wish they didn’t have her start to get all paranoid about the other women favoring Jen over her.  I’d really like to see Nicole have some non-male friends.

were just the weed talking. She really wanted to try and fit it and probably would have behaved better if they hadn’t gotten stoned. Not everyone who gets stoned is hilariously funny like the rest of the ladies. But Nic definitely has the Salem Brain in this instance and will, I betcha, tell Daniel what happened.

I thought the inside joke from Julie about the "cruises" was great.

"Where’s Doug and Julie?" " oh they are on a cruise". Often used line to cover their absence.

the stoned gals. Way better than the setup, once the dialog started flying was quite entertaining. And a good job by all.

and boy, do I miss Julie. For me, Julie and Kayla were equally the funniest, with Jennifer running a close second. Actually, these ladies all showed how well they can play comedy. Nicole’s paranoia just proved how little she thinks of herself as being anyone’s ‘real’ friend, but at the same time she seemed the least stoned and it would not surprise me if she didn’t put the whole thing together and realize what JJ has really been up to where manipulating Jenn is concerned. Truly, these girls’ scenes today had me laughing out loud throughout all of their scenes. Well done Mary Beth, Susan, Missy, Judi and Ari. You were all wonderful today.

Jennifer’s face when Nicole was going off and her saying "Is she mad? I think she’s upset!" And Kayla saying "We’ll she did say she was an emotional vortex" or something to that effect. lolol

I liked the scene, too–that fact that it injected some silliness into the show. The scene was a refreshing change of pace and most likely a pretty unique occurrence on soaps!

about Susan S. Hayes’ over the top acting, but she sure does liven up every scene she’s in. I too have missed her!

It was about time for some comedy.   The ladies were great !!!! It was a relief instead of watching Kristin and brainless Brady slobbering all over each other , plus threatening Marlena and Nicole with her evil ways.  Also, E.J.(He’s changed – NOT)  back to his old tricks and Sami so curious and nosy. She thinks, as usual, that she needs to know everything, because she is most important.  I am tired of everyone taking up for Sami, when she brought the entire mess on herself.  If she only had a brain that she could use when she jumps to conclusions and goes right ahead without thinking before she takes action.
