I’m gay and really don’t want them to do it because it will probably be written in a ridiculous manner. Kind of like I hate when broadcast news shows radical gays acting out in parades or God forbid, those lowlifes that interrupted a church service in California. My friends and I do not condone that type of behavior and hate that some people believe that all gays are like that.
Plus, there are small kids who are home with their moms when Days is broadcast and they don’t need to be exposed to this kind of thing at such a young age.
March 25, 2011 at 1:27 am #2209253tdogsParticipantwhatever, I just don’t want "in-your-face" and that goes for the bed scenes with the straights too – I know out gay folks and they act and think like you and your friends Powerpaw2…live and let live but don’t throw it around.
I am sick of turning on my t.v. and seeing what is soft porn on t.v. – I watch for the SL’s, the romance, a kiss or show me after the fact laying in bed if you are going to have to go there…Maybe it’s my age but I even at when I was younger never cared to watch the mess up the sheets scenes.
Maybe that’s why I like Victor and Maggies SL so much. Stephano and Kate’s kiss even worked the other day as it didn’t end up with them in down and dirty in the sheets like the younger crowd on DOOL does all the time – lot of FF’ding for me. Guess I’m a prude after all…
March 25, 2011 at 2:37 am #22094DeeLanParticipantNot a prude at all.
One of the reasons I like old movies (Doris Day/Rock Hudson and a bunch of others) is because you have the hint but a lot is left to your imagination. You see a couple give a look, a wink and you might see a shirt on a chair. You know what happened but you didn’t have to watch.
March 25, 2011 at 3:40 am #2209853tdogsParticipantand the gist of what was going on, going to happen, but ya didn’t have to see them in the in-between scenes.
March 25, 2011 at 3:54 am #22100shadowParticipantIt seems it has become a fad to be gay. I don’t condone it and I believe it is a choice people make.
If DOOL does this and makes Carly gay, then she will definitely make me sick to my stomach. She is already sickening for me to watch.
I don’t want to start a controversy, but I know what the Bible says and I feel very strongly that it is morally wrong.
March 25, 2011 at 9:21 am #22102SWParticipantway way back and it was done ‘tastefully.’ One of the female leads was ‘falling for’ the male and it took a while but he finally told her that he just wasn’t interested in her because he was already in a relationship with a guy. It turned into an AIDS story but it was done very well I thought. I agree with your comment powerpaw2. The ones I have met through work are just like any other people.
March 25, 2011 at 9:43 am #22103kprstrsParticipantYAY FOR SHADOW!!!!! Ditto here!! You are so right, it has become ‘look at me, how much attention can I get if I say I’m gay and adopt a child’! What a crock!! And you are right about the Bible…and it is in the New Testament as well. Of course, that’s all up for interpretation, right!? NOT!!
March 25, 2011 at 12:17 pm #22106BonbonParticipantDo you remember Vern (from The Spectator) had a son who was gay and was hot for Jack. Of course he was played more as a cartoon character than a real-life gay man. In most cases, you can’t tell a gay person from a straight unless you see them in a relationship so I guess that’s the direction they intend to go.
Although I have no problem with homosexuality, I can understand those who do because I still have a hard time accepting a pairing between a black and white person. It used to be considerably taboo but now it’s very acceptable and, I think, also being forced down our throats in the media. I guess they feel they have to do it to stay "hip" and fulfill their I’m-modern-and-open-minded quota.
March 25, 2011 at 2:11 pm #22112annieoParticipantHe can’t find a woman – maybe the writers will find him a man. (I say that with tongue in cheek)
March 25, 2011 at 4:17 pm #22120zsuzsaParticipantI’ve had close relationships with gay folks for most of my adult life, but I also believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, so I do have moral convictions that come into play. But I believe in live and let live. Moral issues are between the individual and God. That being said, I don’t try to ram my convictions down anyone’s throat, so I’m tired of those who want to force everyone to accept homosexuality ramming down everyone’s throat. Every TV show, at least on prime time, seems compelled to include storylines of that nature. I also agree with others that I don’t want to see the heterosexual couples getting down and dirty either. The romance movies that kept the clothes on really were more romantic (even though most were before my time!). I see the current soft porn norm to be voyeurism. If you walked by someone’s house, and they were having sex with the blinds open, would you stop and watch? It’s the same to me! I have no more desire to watch "Sami" & "Rafe" do the deed than to peek in my neighbors’ window to watch them. I think the writers try to substitute titillation for interesting plot and good dialog.
March 25, 2011 at 4:59 pm #22122maxineParticipantI believe that Days is trying to show what is in the real world ,day to day concerns in the world today and being ‘Gay ‘and seeing gay people is a large part of our world today, granted I do not wish to see a same sex in the bed doing the nasty, but if it is done with a little ‘class’ I would watch it and Bonbon you made a comment of having a hard time accepting a white and black pairing…I am a Black woman with 3 adult children, my daughter-in law is a very sweet young lady that just happens to be white , our family has fallen in love with her just as my son did , not because of her color but because she is a very nice person, but that is how I raised my children, and how I was raised, you can easily see the color of a persons skin but not the color of the heart. I read "Salam Place’ dayly but do not comment often , but thought I had to comment today, because I think ‘Days’ is trying to keep up with the times and just about everyone knows someone that knows someone that is Gay..I think we should wait and see ( if they go with that SL) how they go about protraying it before we start knocking it…JMO
March 25, 2011 at 5:09 pm #22123BonbonParticipantI have friends who are black and white and are happily married. I just said that after growing up in the 50s when it was frowned upon, I’m still having a hard time accepting it. I understand we’re all the same under our skin and please don’t think I am prejudiced in any way. Just something I grew up with that’s hard to get over.
March 26, 2011 at 8:05 pm #22154BonoSugaRayParticipantAgreed Shadow!
March 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm #22177mommytutuParticipantBut not everyone agrees with your perception of being gay. Honestly, who would "choose" to live a life being treated like a leper? Also, having taught for more than 20 yrs., I have seen children as young as 5 who were obviously gay. I don’t think they woke up one morning and said, "Hey, I’m 5 and I think I’ll choose to dress up like a princess and play with Barbies." It’s a tough life to live even at that age, a children can be the most cruel when another child doesn’t "fit in" the way society expects them to. That said, I would not be repulsed by a gay storyline if it were done right. I don’t want a sex scene, but I don’t usually watch those scenes with the straight characters on the show. I prefer the illusion to the actual thing.
Shadow, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I respect yours and I hope you can respect mine. I also hope that if Days does decide to tackle the issue of homosexuality that they do it in a way that respects both sides of the issue.
