or news about the shows or the actors on the shows. I didn’t underline them; that’s the way they were originally posted for the Emmys noms by Hollywood Life.

Thanks for liking PEOPLE’s "Mariah Carey Will Make $18 Million on American Idol". Like PEOPLE on Facebook for breaking news, celebrity pictures, exclusive deals and more!
The newest face at the judges’ table is taking home the biggest paycheck.
Mariah Carey, who has officially signed on to join American Idol, will reportedly earn about $18 million for the season.
"Her deal is rumored to be just under $18 million for one year with an option to renew," a source familiar with the negotiation tells PEOPLE.
Carey, 42, will reportedly be the highest paid judge on any reality show, although departed judge Jennifer Lopez raked in $20 million plus bonuses her second year, according to a source.
July 25, 2012 at 1:24 am #3455953tdogsParticipantthe guy who started AI? (name escapes me right now- but he’s got that other show currently on t.v. too) – he might not take a salary, just the royalties – which may make him more money since he’s the creator, producer (of so many shows) – figured if I kept typing his name would come to me…alas – oh well, no biggie.
July 25, 2012 at 1:34 am #34560caseyParticipantMariah can sing up a storm but how is she as a judge? I hope she can give some insight instead of merely a presence as a top pop queen. All I can say is there must be a stack of jack piled up at Idol to be able to throw this much at an unproven “critic.” But then viewers will tune in just to see her outfits – or lack thereof!
July 25, 2012 at 1:47 am #34561luckeyParticipantif we thought Paula was ditzy at times, I think the viewers are in for more with Mariah. I’m basing my opinion on interviews I’ve seen her give and she acts pretty spacey. She’ll definitely be a big draw.
July 25, 2012 at 3:08 am #34564PattiParticipantbut they’re two different people. Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller are the owners and creators of "19 Entertainment Group", which includes both AI and So You Think You Can Dance. Lythgoe actually left AI to produce SYTYCD for Fox, but then was brought back to as Executive Producer of AI in 2010. He is also a judge on SYTYCD.
July 25, 2012 at 5:52 pm #3457453tdogsParticipantthat’s who I was trying to think of – thanks!
July 25, 2012 at 5:53 pm #3457553tdogsParticipantThe lack there of…
July 25, 2012 at 10:27 pm #34584PattiParticipantnot Simon Fuller. Simon Cowell creator of The X-Factor, has more money than God, so who are his new judges this year? Brittany Spears and Demi Lavato. Wonder how much skill they’ll have as judges for Simon this season. I just read recently that Brittany Spears has severe ADHD since childhood and has gotten up from her seat and walked out on a number of prospective contestants trying out for this season. Not because she couldn’t give a decent judge’s critique, but because she couldn’t focus on what was going on around her for any length of time. Hmmm, wonder how much Cowell’s paying for that talent? I think Mariah will be just fine on AI. They’re still looking for someone to replace Steven Tyler, who I thought was a great judge on AI, as well as being a music industry phenomenon, but with no prior experience on a reality tv show.

July 26, 2012 at 10:47 am #34599BonbonParticipanther being selected. He is, after all, her manager. Personally, I think they should have gone after her husband, Nick Cannon, instead. Now THAT guy has personality, stage presence, and a great sense of humor. Marriah I can’t stand. Of course it doesn’t make a bit of difference to me because I don’t watch the show.
July 26, 2012 at 7:47 pm #34615goodolddaysParticipantI cannot stand Mariah Carey! I hate her singing ( or screeching), and she is ditzy. I won’t be watching.

July 28, 2012 at 5:44 pm #34699BrandyRoseParticipantdefinitely be a big draw, if she is "spacey." Just kidding. That was cute, Luckey.

July 29, 2012 at 1:55 am #34732BonoSugaRayParticipantWhat A.I. needs is someone who, first off, can actually SING (they now have that in Mariah, but…)!…Has a very flavorful/styliish/colorful mentality…a swag that’s all their own, YET, is tough, no nonsense/critical in their judging of A.I. hopefuls. Here are some suggestions: ANNIE LENNOX! MONICA! CHAKA KHAN! STEPHAN JENKINS (lead singer of the group Third Eye Blind)! ENYA (she totally rocks)! GEORGE MICHAEL! REBA! LAUREN HILL! MARC ANTHONY! ARETHA FRANKLIN!
Not only that, but can you imagine the amount of viewers these types of judges would draw (of so many "musical" demographics)? ANNIE LENNOX, alone, is a worldwide sensation! She’d draw viewers of all ages, nationalities, etc. Oh, and then there’s the one and only ENYA (need I say more?)!
