"Days of Our Lives" head writer Dena Higley’s 19-year-old daughter, Jensen Higley, makes her second appearance on "Days" on Wednesday, December 30. She appears as Detective McCarthy, the woman who gives Troy back his cell phone at the Java Cafe. She previously appeared on "Days" on August 4, 2008 as Susie, one of Melanie’s friends.
In other news, Mark Hapka (Nathan) mentions in a Soap Opera Weekly interview this week that he signed a 4-year contract. Since Galen Gering (Rafe) and Eric Martsolf (Brady) had signed 4-year contracts late last year, it seems NBC has joined in ABC’s practice of signing newbies to 4-year deals, rather than the standard 3-year deal which "Days" has used since the 1980s. Back in the 1970s, the standard deal was for 7 years! This contract of course only protects "Days", and not the actor. Actors can still be released after each 13-week cycle in their contract. But with this 4-year deal news, it means most likely that Lindsay Hartley (Arianna), Taylor Spreitler (Mia), Casey Deidrick (Chad), Gabriela Rodriguez (Gabi), and Chandler Massey (Will) are all contracted to the show into 2013, and not 2012 as previously thought.
December 30, 2009 at 11:55 am #8985PattiParticipanthas the show been renewed beyond 2010; because, if not, what difference does it make how long the actor is contracted for? So far I haven’t read any news regarding whether or not DOOL has been picked up beyond March, 2010. If so, will they still be on NBC; how long will the extension be; etc. I would love to hear something to that end.
December 30, 2009 at 5:14 pm #8996IzzyBParticipantWhen they extended it to March 2010, there was some goals that had to be met and I think after those goals were met then they were automatically renewed to another time period. I remember reading something about this, does anyone else remember this? So I am thinking they met those goals. Because we should have heard something by now and with all the new actors, it seems Days is planning on being her for awhile, not a couple months.

December 31, 2009 at 1:54 pm #9026IzzyBParticipantI knew there was something about September and something about goals. I assumed at this point the March thing wasn’t gonna be the end, so I wasn’t worried.
