Anyone out there watching Downton Abbey? If so, can someone tell me what happened between Mary and Matthew at the end of Season 1? I can’t remember. Thanks. I Love This Show!
January 12, 2012 at 4:57 pm #30367MKParticipantAnnieo, I am watching and absolutely loving Downton Abbey! I’m so happy somebody on here watches it too! This is by far the most enjoyable thing on television for me. I’m trying to remember what exactly happened at the end of the first season between Mary and Matthew since it’s been a year or so since I watched that last episode. I think Mary just couldn’t make up her mind about marrying Matthew and so he left Downton. I know she wanted to be honest with him and tell him she had a lover but I don’t think she ever did. I think that was bothering her. But ultimately, if memory serves, she loved him but couldn’t quite commit.
I just bought the blu-ray for seasons 1 and II. Season II doesn’t come out until February and supposedly comes with a Christmas episode which I am sooooo excited about! I’m guessing the Christmas episode follows season II and will be shown here next December but that is just guesswork on my part. I want to see if there is any behind-the scenes-stuff included. I also bought the Downton Abbey book which I haven’t received yet. I think I’m kind of obsessed with this show!!! It’s brilliant, interesting, well acted, just awesome! Just goes to show you don’t need loud music, trashy looking women, and lots of action to have a great show!
I don’t know if you know this but Downton Abbey is nominated for 5 Emmy Awards at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday! I am going to record it, fast-forward through everything else and watch the mini-series awards. I know the show itself is nominated as well as Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, and Maggie Smith (who is so funny with just her facial expressions!). I don’t know what the last nomination is for: maybe for best writer? Can’t wait for Sunday!
January 13, 2012 at 4:34 pm #30410mshults60ParticipantI just started watching season one via my Netflix account. Yes, it is just such a wonderful production and I am hooked already. The costumes have been so much fun to watch also. They really knew how to dress. Wonder what they would think of all our T-shirts and jeans?? Most folks today look like a bunch of rag-a-muffins. (I loved being a teen in the fifties!!)
February 20, 2012 at 12:06 am #31171annieoParticipantDon’t know if either of you who posted are still as hooked as I am, but I just burst out laughing last week when Lavinia picked up the tray, tripped and Matthew jumped out of his wheelchair to save her. I told my husband that was such a typical soap opera move! But I didn’t care, because I just love this show. I love the zingers that Maggie Smith has. Did either of you see the parody on Saturday Night Live several weeks ago? It was an absolute hoot. I also saw Daisy, Mrs. Patmore and the chauffeur on some awards show. Daisy is so cute dressed up and they were talking about next season. I can’t wait! But I guess I’ll have to.
February 20, 2012 at 9:28 pm #31177mshults60ParticipantYes, this viewer is still totally hooked and it is amazing how many folks I have mentioned it to that are already watching it. The final last night was just perfect and it will be missed for months. I hear Sept. is the new season release date. I had to laugh out loud last night when Sir Richard turned to Maggie Smith and told her she wouldn’t see him anymore and she looked right in his face and said, "Promise"!! Her lines are worth the show that’s for sure.
February 21, 2012 at 2:07 pm #31187SWParticipantand have watched it all. I’m confused by the comment about what some people saw last week. Sunday (2/19) was the Christmas finale of Season 2 here. It also contained the actor’s comments on the series. I love what I’ve seen so far and can’t wait for season 3.
February 21, 2012 at 2:23 pm #31188MKParticipantI’m still hooked big time!!!! The show is a little more soap opera-ish this season than last but it’s still, by far, the best thing I’ve seen on tv in years. I was just a little disappointed on the Christmas episode. I thought they would show more of the preparations for the holiday. I thought the manor would be decorated so beautifully. That tree was so beautiful that I wished they had it up longer. The Christmas part of it only lasted for about 3 minutes. I did not see the parody on SNL but would have loved to! I wonder if it’s on YouTube. I’ll have to check that out later. It’s going to feel weird this coming Sunday when Downton isn’t on tv!
February 21, 2012 at 5:47 pm #31196annieoParticipantI have been one week ahead of myself all month! It was the 2/12 show where Lavinia tripped.
February 21, 2012 at 5:55 pm #31197annieoParticipantI mentioned it at a club meeting the other night and only 1 person there besides me were watching and the rest had never heard of it! But the two of us watching had a great discussion. These people just don’t know what they are missing. I guess I’m not really being fair as there are many, many TV shows that I never tune into and I really just happened into Season 1 Downton A. via Netflix, but became hooked immediately. I read two things online. One was that it’ll start again in Sept. and Two. PBS has not chosen an airdate for Season 3. I hope it’s the former and not the latter. And you are right, Maggie Smith has some laugh out loud one-liners.
March 14, 2012 at 10:49 am #31753KseeParticipantHow much I love this show!!!! it’s sooooooo good. I’m enjoying it much better than Days (sad to say). It is so well done and visually it is beautifull to watch
March 14, 2012 at 3:52 pm #31767BonbonParticipantand said they really like it but he said it’d be hard to start watching now without any background. Darn!
March 14, 2012 at 4:50 pm #31777annieoParticipantit’s on Netflix, if you’re a customer. You can watch it online. As I told my friend when she got hooked on Season 2 without knowing the background of Season 1, it was worth it to sign up for Netflix online just to watch the first season. You can always drop the membership after that. Fortunately, she was able to get Season 1 from our local library, (and it’s not a really "big" library). I’m sure they’ll get Season 2 as well but I haven’t checked for it.
