What do you all think of last night? Hope should go home though I wouldn’t mind if Rob left either. I still think JR should win. Twisted ankle or not, he is the best dancer in my opinion. Ricki is quite good too but JR has such a natural dance ability and his personality shines through every dance. I hope his ankle doesn’t affect the vote—I don’t think he should be judged for that because his talent far outweighs any injury.
November 15, 2011 at 2:30 pm #28728BonbonParticipantI’m thinking more and more that all (or most) of the decisions have already been made before the show even airs. There’s just too much that doesn’t ring true.
Last night, Rob was certainly not the best dancer in the cha-cha, Ricky was far, far better. And I don’t think Hope and Maks deserved the numbers they got. It is so apparent that Carrie Ann doesn’t like Maks and he has shown much self-control in not saying to her what he thinks. What in the heck was that "smiling comment" supposed to mean?
If Rob doesn’t go home tonight, I’ll be convinced. There have just been too many bad dancers in the past that have stayed way beyond their time where I seriously doubt that had that big a fan base. Very disappointing…very!
November 15, 2011 at 3:07 pm #28733luckeyParticipantbad week…she was voted out…not fair; but this show is looking more and more scripted each season. I agree that JR has been the better dancer overall on a consistent basis with Ricki extremely close. Hope will probably go home and Rob will continue. Donnie Osmond gave his opinion this AM on GMA that Rob could be the dark horse and walk away with the trophy. With this all taking place in Hollywood and the Kardashian family seeming to be what many TV viewers are obsessed with, it won’t surprise me if that happens…it will be disgusting, but I won’t be surprised. I’ve always seen Carrie Ann as playing up to the most notable of the stars that are on the show each season regardless of their ability and she’s been that way with Rob all along. I don’t deny that Rob has improved greatly; but, the best dancer…NOT!
November 15, 2011 at 4:53 pm #28739BonbonParticipantI’m done with this show. And I don’t say that lightly.
November 15, 2011 at 5:00 pm #28741PattiParticipantand I’d be totally flabbergasted if she didn’t go home tonight. Even Maks himself tried to stop her from being too critical of the judges’ remarks, especially Carrie Ann’s, who has been extremely critical this year as well, ….. but, boy, does she love Rob Kardashian. For the most part, I think J.R. will have time to rest his ankle and that he’ll be just fine. I am surprised he did as well as he did last night, and you could see the pain as well as the frustration on his face. I still think he’ll win it. Funny, last week I stated something about barring any unfortunate injuries …. and then my favorite dancer sprains his ankle the following week. Rikki is good but she doesn’t move half as well as J.R., and if he comes back healthy next week, he’ll be just fine in their race for the mirror ball. I will admit Rob K. has improved, but his mannerisms just rub me the wrong way, although he was very good last night. Still think Hope’s going home tonight …. not because her dancing was weak, but she let her mouth run away with her and it did not put her in a very good light.
November 15, 2011 at 5:54 pm #28744MKParticipantI didn’t even watch Rob’s dances as I’ve expressed many times before, I don’t even think he should be on this show and I’m so sick of the Kardashians. And there’s just something about him I find a turn off. As you said, Patti, his mannerisms rub me the wrong way as well!
And I just don’t like Hope. At first I just didn’t like her dancing and then I didn’t like her personality (or lack of). I’ll have to re-watch it tonight, but it seemed to me when Len was giving his remarks (which seemed pretty positive), Hope wasn’t even looking at him. She was looking at Maks with a kind of smirk. And I’ll have to re-watch it when Carrie Ann said to Maks something about the way he was smiling. Does anyone know, was Maks smirking or makin g faces?? It was funny when Carrie Ann lifted her paddle to give the score of "8" to them and she was so serious and quiet when she said it. You could tell she was not happy with Hope’s remarks. I want to watch that whole thing again.
IMO, JR puts all these people to shame both in dance and personality and appreciativeness (is that even a word?). I like Rikki but not as much as JR. He’s a beautiful person inside and out.
November 15, 2011 at 7:04 pm #28747luckeyParticipantmy earlier comments. Reality TV is reality only up to the point that it stops making for good TV. When it isn’t progressing the way the producers want it to…they make it happen the way the want it to. This show will end up on my "not watching" list like all the other reality shows I no longer watch.
November 15, 2011 at 11:23 pm #28754annieoParticipant"Maks & Hope, how do you feel about the 21 score?" What the he– are you supposed to answer to such an idiotic question? Oh we’re so thrilled – we want more 7’s. Between her stupid questions and the hand on the hip action, I want to shake the TV. I feel really bad for JR – missed his second dance because they broke into our station with tornado warnings in the area and went to bed before the Cha-cha – I really, really hope JR doesn’t get sent home tonight because of one bad performance. Interesting storyline behind Hope. She really didn’t "grow into her looks" until she was in her late teens. A very odd-looking baby!
November 16, 2011 at 1:13 pm #28774BonbonParticipantahead of Rob just has me totally disgusted with this show. Not so much that I think Hope is so much better than Rob, I think the whole thing is being manipulated to keeping Rob around. I liked him at first but watching Carrie Ann fawn all over him and him getting scores that I don’t think are really deserved, I’m just really extremely POed. Which is sad because this has been my favorite show for quite some time.
Like I’ve mentioned before, there have been way too many bad dancers (and IMO, Rob is a bad dancer, improved, yes, but still bad) kept around far too long. The list is too long to mention them but I’m sure everybody can think of many. It’s becoming much too obvious that someone other than the judges and fans have their fingers in this pie.
And I really don’t blame Maks and Hope for their remarks. The judges have been so blatently against them it’s pitiful. I interpreted Maks’ "smile" as a smirk basically saying, "okay, we’re going to get lambasted on this one." But still, Carrie Ann’s remark was uncalled for.
Although I’ve always liked Maks, maybe he’s actually IS an SOB in real life and their actions are warrented. But I hope not.
November 16, 2011 at 1:16 pm #28777SWParticipantJR’s injury was really giving him a lot of pain and it was very obvious. I wonder how they determine the ‘at risk’ final 2? I think the judges are not always judging the real dancing and I think many of the votes aren’t going for the dancing seen on the show. For that reason, I am worried that the winner could be Rob just due to voting. Yes, he’s come a long way since the beginning but so has JR. I think Ricki had an advantage due to her having danced in movies etc before. Carrie Ann seems to be way too interested in the males, Bruno is just obnoxious, and then there’s grumpy Len who does seem to be more concerned with the dances but can be swayed by the pros he likes. I would like to see a different Pro win instead of the Cheryl – Derek repeat.
November 16, 2011 at 1:41 pm #28780caseyParticipantbut could Hope’s comments be a factor in voters giving her the boot? Fans obviously vote for reasons other than performance and from what I’ve seen of Hope, she doesn’t comport herself very graciously. Was she a better dancer than Rob?
November 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm #28824luckeyParticipantviewers has dropped very significantly since last fall. TPTB are questioning the fact that they have DWTS on in both fall and spring and have now gone down to 3rd rate stars, many of whom viewers don’t even know. There have also been discussions about the three judges and maybe doing what American Idol did with their shake up. Tom Bergeron was quoted as saying that he’s very concerned with the downturn in the numbers of viewers and that something needs to be done. We’ll see what happens with their plans for the spring season.
November 17, 2011 at 2:59 pm #28828BonbonParticipantthe stars they have selected. Many times in the past I have not know several either so I don’t think that’s any kind of change. Although I WOULD like to see "bigger" stars, we all seem to become invested in them eventually as the show progresses and pick our favorites. Truthfully, the bigger stars are probably too busy to take that much time out of their schedules. These are probably the only ones they can get.
My biggest beef (probably my only one except the suitability of the music to the dances*) lies in the judging and voting. It is so blatently skewed. They need to make it more transparent and eliminate all bias from the judges and somehow show the viewers how many viewer votes are received for each pair. I really think that more honesty would not hurt the ratings like the "rating enhancement" is obviously doing.
*They probably do this to get newer and different music in there but, really, when you go to a concert, you don’t want to hear all new music, you want to hear the ones that have been hits and the performer(s) have probably performed over and over and over. That’s what we want to hear…the ones we recognize and love.
November 17, 2011 at 3:45 pm #28830luckeyParticipantone or two big names in the group to draw viewers to at least watch the first show. As you and I both know very well, it’s hard to stop watching after the first show because it does draw you in. I also believe that they have to have at least one big sports name on the list. I was very surprised and happy that Hope Solo said she would participate so soon after the great soccer season she had. I had never heard of her until her team got to the finals; but, she did help draw me in when I had already thought seriously of not watching this season. Ron Artest was a huge bust in my opinion. I also think that doing only the fall season would be a better draw and help them have a bigger pool of contestants. For quite awhile it seemed that the stars were using this show as a springboard to re-ignite their careers and bring them back to the public eye. Didn’t see that so much with this season’s participants. I totally agree with you regarding the points scoring. That needs a major adjustment and much more transparency. The whole operation is just looking way too manipulated.
November 18, 2011 at 4:24 pm #28880PattiParticipantmaking their selections. Too often we see the most popular pros paired with stars who have the ability to quickly get in step with the dance, or have some background or training in dance, and it quickly becomes a foreseeable as to who will be saved and who will be eliminated. They also have to stop selecting (and I hate saying this, because I am one, myself) ‘seniors’ who are in no way, shape or form able to keep up with the rigor of these dances. I do not enjoy watching them at all, even though they were once very popular. Sorry, but their inability to perform the moves, or even to keep up makes them hard to enjoy for me.
