Not bad for the first night. It was obvious most of these stars were really nervous, and as usual off the map with errors. I really liked Ralph Macchio, and was surprised how well he danced. So glad they paired Kirstie with Maks. She sure can move for her size. I remember her dancing the waltz with one of my all-time favorite Hollywood dancers, John Travolta, in one of the "Look Who’s Talking" movies. She was so, so good. She may have trouble keeping her weight off, but I wouldn’t put it past her to excel in this competition. So, Kirstie and Ralph get my vote for Round 1, but I’m not counting out Hines Ward. I thought he did a great job for his first time out (but don’t tell my Ravens I said that). It never surprises me, though, how well most of these super-star athletes do. After all, they have to be very good on their feet to play their sport so well. We have a football player, a boxer and a pro-wrestler this year, and I thought they all did well in their debut. And Romeo is just too cute for words.
March 22, 2011 at 2:15 pm #21957luckeyParticipantMaster P. I remember what a jerk he was when he was on in 2006. I didn’t realize that he was replacing Romeo (his son) that season. All in all, I thought that everyone was pretty evenly matched as far as no formal dance experience. It was a very entertaining night and went very quickly for two hours. My favorite is Hines (being a huge Steelers fan) with Ralph and Kirstie close behind. I really don’t know how Wendy is going to do or the radio advice guy…they seem to be the most challenged. I’m thinking that they are more local stars to the Hollywood area, so maybe their fan base will be limited. I’m looking forward to this season. It was also fun to see who was in the audience…even Hugh Hefner was there to see Kendra.
March 22, 2011 at 2:24 pm #21960BonbonParticipantYes, lots of former "stars" in the audience. And has anybody else noticed the resemblance to Rafe in that radio guy (sorry, don’t remember his name)?
Ralph seems to have a good sense of humor that will help him, Romeo too. Boy, how different he is from his dad, huh? By far, the WORST contestant in the entire history of the show.
I too was very surprised at Kristie’s performance, she did quite well, but I bet we’ll see a lot of conflict between Kristie and Maks…two VERY strong personalities. Yes, it’s going to be an very interesting season.
March 22, 2011 at 4:57 pm #21974NoraParticipantI dont watch this show but I wanted to see Kendra and Kristy Alley, that is her name right? The woman from cheers. I missed her though, I saw the first girl dont know who she is. I thought they did a great job, and she looked amazing in that dress! I also saw Heinz, who i thought did a great job too, i really enjoyed his preformance. i think thats all i saw. was Kristy any good??? I thought Kendra did well. maybe needs to loosen up alittle more but it’s gotta be nerves, you would think she wouldnt have any problems learning the moves.
March 22, 2011 at 8:30 pm #21977PattiParticipantShe was my favorite female and I’m loving them pairing her with Maks. They both looked like they were having a great time last night, although you could clearly see that she was nervous, but she covered it well. She might be a big girl, but she exudes sex appeal and she even tipped her left boob upward in one part of her dance, but it wasn’t vulgar … more comedic. She and Maks were last in the competition and the audience loved them. She’s also extremely funny. I’m hoping she’ll go a long way.
March 22, 2011 at 8:34 pm #21978PattiParticipantbearing a slight resemblance to Galen Gering. I think it’s the hair, or maybe his smile. I’ve never heard of him before, but his first name is Mike. I don’t expect him to go too far. Speaking of Galen, I just read a new James Scott interview where the interviewer asked if they were going to see him dance at the next fan event, and he replied something like: "you know me, once I’m on the dance floor, you can’t get me off." Now there’s someone I would love to see on DWTS. Wonder if he would ever consider doing it if asked.
March 22, 2011 at 9:16 pm #21982ellenkbParticipantthe beginning. Like the year that Kristy Yamaguchi was on she basically danced a 10 on her first night. None of them were really impressive last night so it should be fun to watch them all improve.
March 23, 2011 at 12:30 pm #22009BonbonParticipantAnother thing to keep in mind about Kirstie (thanks for the reminder of spelling) is that she is 60 years old. I think we tend to forget that because she certainly doesn’t look it.
I thought she moved pretty darn well for her age and weight. Having been overweight in my past, I can appreciate how hard it is to expend that much energy, and believe me, even though it sometimes doesn’t look it, it takes a whole lot of it to do those dances.
March 23, 2011 at 12:32 pm #22010BonbonParticipantbut I’d love to see James too. He seems to have a pretty good sense of humor and I think that’s definitely a prerequisite to be on the show.
March 23, 2011 at 5:47 pm #2203353tdogsParticipantIt looked like she had shed a number of pounds. I don’t watch the show, but the newscast I watch at night had clips of her dancing, I thought she was great.
March 23, 2011 at 10:28 pm #22043June66watcherParticipantWorst ever has to go to Kenny Mane (sp)…do you remember back then? Yes, Master P was bad but it was his attitude that stopped him from at least trying to improve. There’s been plenty of contestants who just didn’t have the ‘it’ to be a dancer… but they made the effort even if there was no noticeable agility. I heard Romeo say that against his Dad’s advice he wore the ‘shoes’, so I expect Romeo will be giving a decent performance this season.
March 23, 2011 at 11:55 pm #22045luckeyParticipantthat she had dropped 60 pounds over the last number of months and wanted to lose 30 more. I was happy to see that she looked so much better than she did about a year ago and was very graceful for a full-figured lady of a "certain age". I can say that because she and I share a birthday, except I have one year on her.
