I’m surprised no thread on this. My intial thoughts are not as exciting as other seasons. But it’s early yet. Chaka Khan was awful, that housewife Kim not much better and Gary Busey just a joke. I figured T Braxton would be good and of course Nick Carter. Bindi Irwin just a whirlwind of energy, very entertaining.
But I wonder if this show is just becoming a plug-in template: the social media kid, the aging diva, the former child star, etc.
I was surprised how much I missed Len on the panel. But I do like 3 judges over 4.September 15, 2015 at 2:11 pm #48427BonbonParticipantthat started out last season. As far as Gary Busey goes, I’m convinced that guy has brain damage from his accident. When he was on Celebrity Apprentice he was downright unintelligible. He’d go off on tangents and his statements didn’t make any sense at all. Like his F-U-N thing last night. He was always doing stupid things like that.
I really like seeing Bindi on there, she is really a cutie and looks like she might do well. That housewife has got to be the worst EVER and Paula wasn’t much better. God, she sure is not aging well, I thought she looked awful and if you can’t look good after the DWTS make-up department gets done with you, you’re a lost cause.
I agree with your formulaic assessment. I said several years ago the same thing. I really wish they would stick to people who are actually possibilities instead of these we know are only hanging by the thread of their fan base. Even the judges are predictable in their comments. I can almost always guess what scores they will give and I hate when they praise the ones who are downright horrible. At least Len was pretty straight forward with his criticisms, even when he got booed.
And once again, lets use music appropriate for the dance people…please? And does there need to be so much kissing of the partners?
September 15, 2015 at 2:51 pm #48430PattiParticipantbut I did catch the second half. Love Nick Carter from the Back Street Boys, and think he will go far, plus he’s very easy on the eyes.
Felt really sorry for the gal from Housewives from Atlanta. I predict she will be one of the first to go. Don’t know how she can even move carrying all that on her chest. LOL!
Gary Busey will be just like he was on Celebrity Apprentice….obnoxious to a fault, but he’ll probably stay around for at least a while, because he’s like watching a trainwreck in that you just can’t look away, and he certainly can’t dance a lick. I feel sorry for the stars who draw these types for partners.
Bindi is a doll and I predict she will go far, but she may have too much energy for some of these dances that require more discipline. Love the tribute she sent to her dad, and gosh those kids look like their father so much. We’ll see …. but once again, Derek gets a very good dancer. Seems a little too suspicious to me.
The husband and wife team were pretty good for first timers, although I couldn’t tell you for the life of me who they are. LOL! Same for the young man, don’t even know his name, who was referred to as the "American Hero." For someone who doesn’t dance at all, he did well with the waltz, IMO.
I missed the rest of the cast and the dances from the first half. I wouldn’t expect Paula Deane to do well. Don’t know why they even cast some of these people. I do think the show is losing it’s popularity though, and I think that’s why Len decided to go out when he did.
September 22, 2015 at 4:37 pm #48537caseyParticipantDefinitely Chaka deserved the boot and for the second dance, again she missed the choreography. No excuse for that twice. Wonder if Gary will be next? Paula was definitely better this time.
The Braxton girl is in the running and Bindi continues to impress. But I’m not seeing the high level of performance from this group in general as in previous outings.September 23, 2015 at 1:11 pm #48547BonbonParticipantthat the jockey was booted before Gary Busey. That man could barely walk across the floor, let alone do any dance steps. Like Carry Ann said, Paso Dobles – not so much. Poor, poor, Anna. She has nothing to work with at all. He is AWFUL! Even Paula was worse than the jockey (sorry, can’t remember his name).
I don’t know but I think the beginning scores this season are exceptionally low compared to other seasons. But then, so it the talent…or lack there-of.
September 23, 2015 at 4:23 pm #48548caseyParticipantGary will be next. He has no biz being on DWTS. But I don’t know if Victor going before him has to do with simply people attracted to the outrageousness of Busey or Victor being less known. Have to think the latter as that would explain Paula’s status too.
I liked (can’t recall her name) the performance from Somewhere in Time more than the judges. And Tam B w/Val was fun. Val is such a joy to watch. Enjoyed Bindi again – her waltz was so light and airy and she’s quite interpretive. Her bubbly personality is so like her father’s – she is him in so many ways. And her brother – a mini-Steve!September 25, 2015 at 3:22 pm #48610PattiParticipantwhat an injustice to Victor Espinoza. I don’t care how many folks think Gary Busey is comic relief for the how; he needs more therapy. Don’t know how much of his shtick is put on or how much of it is really Busey, but the guy did the same awful crap on Celebrity Apprentice, and look how long it took for him to get eliminated from that show. Just awful for Victor, though!
September 26, 2015 at 3:08 pm #48631BonbonParticipantI don’t see any humor in Busey at all. In fact, I think he’s downright pathetic and I cringe watching him. I can’t imagine that anyone would vote for him unless they are as sick as he is. I’ve heard it blamed on his head injury but, I don’t know, I think most of it is put on.
October 6, 2015 at 3:51 pm #48833PattiParticipantshe is so honestly and purely emotionally distressed over her great love and loss of her dad, yet still managed to give an outstanding performance that practically brought down the house. I’m glad to see this young lady outshine Derek, since I still feel he is unfairly given the best dancers. Have they ever explained how the stars and their contestants are matched up? Although, I honestly don’t know if she could have been any luckier than to have drawn Derek. They are superb together and even though it is still very early and barring some tragedy for this young lady, I honestly expect her and Derek to win it all this season.
Other than that, if they would have sent Carlos home instead of Gary Busey, I would have removed DWTS from my DVR. That would have been a travesty above and beyond no other.
October 6, 2015 at 4:32 pm #48835caseyParticipantperformances. She is just a natural with lightness and grace and a pure spirit. Her innocence seems genuine and perhaps that is a result of her encompassing her environment and truly being a part of the natural world. I saw her brother in tears afterward; a shame he barely had time with his dad.
On the whole, last night’s performances were the best so far. Gary of course his usual whacky self. He preaches all this love and peace stuff but can be quite rude, particularly hogging the attention when he was voted off, despite the show running out of time.October 7, 2015 at 1:33 pm #48840BonbonParticipantout and out jerk. His actions on Celebrity Apprentice convinced me of that and he’s not any better on DWTS. I’d like to blame it on his head injury but I can’t buy that. I am delighted he’s gone. Now let’s toss the Southern Fried Diva out on her butt. To me, she comes off as such a phony I can hardly stand to watch her, and that accent is like fingernails on the chalkboard for me…y’all. Then we can get down to some serious dancing.
October 7, 2015 at 1:37 pm #48841BonbonParticipantof being voted off. Remember, they say, “…in no particular order…” so that means they could even have been in second place. I’m sure they pick the other couple completely for shock value. Now if they had announced Paula and Gary were in jeopardy, there’d be no surprise there and no outrage from the audience. So I never pay any attention to the other couple in jeopardy although there have been a few occasions when one of them was voted off, much to everybody’s surprise.
October 7, 2015 at 1:50 pm #48842BonbonParticipantBoy, that girl sure is well endowed. At first I thought it was just the costumes but last Monday night it was pretty obvious that was all her. She looks like she just may have a little bit of a weight battle too.
As far as drawing Derrick as the best partner, I consider Mark his equal. They are both very talented choreographers and teachers. But, yes, I’d sure like to know how they do their selections. It’s like Tony and Louie always seem to get the older gals. And Cheryl Burk was always paired up with the black (usually football players) guys. And Anna and Kym got the older talentless guys. I don’t believe it’s all random, at all.
October 7, 2015 at 3:21 pm #48847PattiParticipantshe really tries to be "sexy" and always wants to do the dance "her way." Poor Louie; he must feel like ….. "God, when am I going to catch a break here?" LOL!
October 7, 2015 at 4:32 pm #48851caseyParticipantjust like her dad – a bit chunky and on the shorter than average size.
For my money both Val and brother Max are the best dancers – so Russian smooth and strong w/gorgeous extension.Maybe not equal in choreography to Derrick and Mark, but in precision and technique they are the best in my – albeit layman – observation.
Wonder who the new matchups will be? -
