Loved the theme, the costumes, the sets and the song selections. Did not care much for Maks and Kirstie last night, though. A little too slutty for the theme, IMO, although Maks looked amazing to me. Just would have rather seen that much less of him on another night’s theme. Kirsty’s bumps and grinds didn’t work for me either.
Once again, Hines was the overall choice for me, but I have to admit, Jherico is creeping up. He’s as cute as can be, and very much a hunk, but his comedic interpretations of practically everything comments on sort of takes away from it a little. Loved his interpretation of Len criticizing him and Cheryl. He really did sound like him.
Also, I was a little surprised at Ralph’s performance last night. He’s tiring to me, and he doesn’t seem to be as impressive as he was from the start.
Still loving Chelsea and Mark, but have to admit I was pleased they didn’t beat Hines. Hard for me to believe I hate this guy when the Steelers play my Ravens, but have to admit, off the football field he’s a sweetie, and a great dancer.
Everyone else was just so-so, and still thinking Kendra should go, specifically since she’s so uncaring toward Louie’s suggestions as to where improvement is needed. Though she did do a little better last night, she still tends to blow off his and the judges’ comments and says what she feels, regardless of the fact that these people are trying to help her. I get the impression she thinks she deserves better not because of what she knows, but "who" she knows. Yeah, well, you know what they, missy, "a monkey in silk is still a monkey."
April 20, 2011 at 11:41 am #22975BonbonParticipantAlthough I wish it had been Kendra going home instead of Petra. I just don’t like her any more. I’m wondering if the producers had a little "talk" with her after her snide remark last week. She’s certainly did an about-face last night, almost to the point of grovelling, but a little too late for me.
I have one criticism about Hines. Someone should have told him that when you wear a uniform representing the US of A, you stand up straight with your shoulders back. He looked HORRIBLE in that uniform. I wanted to give him a whack on the back between his shoulder blades.
I have been pretty much rooting for Kirstie and Maks but I don’t think they’re going to make it much further. I can’t believe the judges saying she has to work on her stamina as she’s wearing out at the end of the dance. Holy cow people, the woman is 60 years old! You just don’t get up one morning and say, I think I’ll have more stamina today. Unless you’ve stayed in shape throughout your life, you don’t have stamina anymore. Also, her weight is working against her, she’s no Jayne Seymour or Susan Lucci. I think she’s doing exceptionally well.
Still no idea who’s going to come out on top yet, it could be practically any one of them. In many cases I feel more sorry for the pro going home than I do the star. Like I don’t care about Kirstie (her humor just doesn’t turn me on) but I really don’t want to see Maks go.
BTW, I loved the out-takes last night. OMG, how embarassing for Hines and Chelsea. (I had the same thing happen to me once at a formal dinner last year, my dress had thin straps so I used a couple of "enhancements" instead of a bra and walking to my table…plop!, right on the floor!) And Maks was a hoot too. The really funny thing is, I don’t think he was joking!!!
April 20, 2011 at 1:03 pm #22977PattiParticipantit didn’t suit him. Something about the way he looked in the hat. He does have (and this is not a knock) a huge head, and I just didn’t think that was a flattering costume for him. I do have this crazy idea for them to do a "I dream of Jeanie" theme where she, of course, would be Jeanie (she so reminds me of her when she wears her high pony-tail) and Hines would, of course, be her genie in the bottle. I laughed out loud at Romeo last night when he said if Hines beats him again, he was going to ruin his smile by putting superglue in his toothpaste. LOL. By the way, I love Romeo, too, and think he improves from week to week. Hard to believe his father is "Master P." That dude was atrocious. I know what you mean about those wardrobe malfunctions; I’ve had more than my share in my lifetime. Also, I agree completely with stamina in the seniors. Those who look the same at the end of their dance compared to when they start it are few and far between. I love Kirsty, but I agree that she won’t last much longer. I wish JUST ONCE that Maks would win, though. He so deserves a strong partner who can go the distance. Plus, the man is HOT…HOT….HOT!
April 20, 2011 at 1:18 pm #22978MKParticipantI just watched Monday’s show last night. I was also hoping Kendra would go home instead of Petra. I find Kendra irritating and I think she’s a big phony. I have to admit going into the very first show this season, I was prepared to not like her since I have no respect for these bimbos living with Hugh Hefner. But I ended up kind of liking her. BUT, then my initial feelings came back. I don’t like her. Her smile is so fake and I don’t like all her negative comments. Also, we get that she just had her period as she only mentioned it about 100 times!
April 20, 2011 at 1:19 pm #22979MKParticipantIt’s funny, Patti, I must be one of the very few who doesn’t find Max appealing at all. There’s something about him that turns me off. Don’t shoot me, ladies!
April 20, 2011 at 1:32 pm #22980MKParticipantAnother thing I forgot to mention. I liked some of the songs for the dances but it still irks me that they play music that doesn’t fit the flavor of the dance. American Woman for a Foxtrot? Really? It was hard for me to enjoy Kirstie and Maks’ dance when I was so distracted by the music. The dance could be phenomenal but if the music doesn’t go with the dance, then I don’t care for the dance. They can still play a modern version of the music that fits the dance, but don’t play rock for a foxtrot or Bon Jovi to a waltz (don’t know if that happened but you get my point).
April 20, 2011 at 2:02 pm #22984BonbonParticipantThere is so much fabulous music out there but they don’t seem to be able to match it to the dances. I think they’re trying to be progressive but I don’t think the people really like that. I especially hate it when they don’t play something appropriate for the Paso Doble. That’s such a great dance but it’s spoiled when they try to match it to something "modern."
Heck, the other night they even had someone (forgot who right now) dancing the waltz to a 4/4 time song. Of course they changed it to 3/4 but it just wasn’t the same song to me. No wonder the pros have such a hard time trying to choreograph some of this stuff.
I have been hoping for several seasons now that someone would dance to the tango from Ratatouille. The guy could dress as a chef and the girl as a rat. I think that would be a really good, fun, presentation. Besides, the music is so great.
April 20, 2011 at 2:12 pm #22985MKParticipantI think they try to please a younger audience when they play the wrong song for a dance but they need to remember that it’s a ballroom dance show. It’s not American Idol. There are so many great Latin songs as well that they could play for the Latin dances.
Who picks the music for the show? I don’t think it’s the band but I’m not really sure.
April 20, 2011 at 2:41 pm #22986PattiParticipantas well as his ego. LOL! I love him, but I have to admit that he is a little too full of himself occasionally.
April 20, 2011 at 4:06 pm #22988BonbonParticipantthe title of Musical Director so I would imagine it would be him that does the song selection. Could be wrong though. Here’s what it lists in imdb.com:
Series Music Department
Danita Ng …. music preparation / music librarian (126 episodes, 2005-2009) Jason Poss …. music preparation / music arranger (76 episodes, 2007-2010) Harold Wheeler …. musical director / music director (39 episodes, 2006-2010) Jen Muccia …. music coordinator (33 episodes, 2008-2010) Graham Jarvis …. music editor (29 episodes, 2008-2010) Bill Hughes …. music contractor (28 episodes, 2008-2009) April 20, 2011 at 4:14 pm #22989luckeyParticipantthis year with Kirstie, I think she is just irreverant enough that it’s knocked him down a peg or two. I don’t find him as obnoxious as in past seasons and I think it’s because he can’t intimidate her. He’s never "tickled my fancy" at all.
