Still like Hines and Kim to win it. Mark and Chelsea got the same score, but I agree with Len; there’s just something about Hines and Kim that makes me smile every time I watch them dance. Maybe it’s because they appear so much more genuine and humble than Mark and Chelsea to me, who know they dancer great together, but sometimes it’s like they’re competing against each other rather than together. I do admire them, though. Kirstie and Maks were amazing last night. Those lifts by Maks were flawless, and they were just terrific, but I don’t think terrific enough to win it all. We’ll find out tonight, but my bet is on Hines and Kim, although I would not be the least bit surprised if Mark and Chelsea got it. They are the youngest, and sometimes that makes a huge difference with the younger voters, who see her as a "Disney" girl more than a dancer. Mark has calmed down a lot, but I wonder what his expression will be tonight if they don’t take the trophy. Good season.
May 25, 2011 at 10:34 am #23995BonbonParticipantI can’t remember who said this but I heard someone on TV say there was no possible way to beat Hines because of his tremendous football following. Not only from his own team but football in general. (Patti, you fall in there, right?) I thought the same thing could be said of, oh crap, can’t remember his name right now. the other footballer who won, I didn’t think he was the best dancer.
He also said (and I agree completely) that Chelsea was the best dancer and that Kirstie was also being kept there because of a huge fan base, not her talent. I don’t begrudge Hines as I felt he did a great job but still thought Chelsea should have won.
You’re right about Maks and those lifts. Can you imagine his lifting her up like that. She’s still got to weigh around 180 or so. That’s lot of lifting. I loved that he was so dedicated to her.
You know, there have been many more men that have won than women. I don’t understand that because I think the men have the easier part in dancing. Many times they are just standing there where the woman is whirling around, high kicking, doing the splits, etc. I think her part is much more difficult yet the guys win. Go figure.
All-in-all, a very good season and, as always, I’m already looking forward to the next one. I just wish they’d change one thing and give more weight to the judges scores (although I don’t always think they are total impartial either) than they do now. I mean, it IS a dancing contest, not a popularity one.
May 25, 2011 at 12:47 pm #24001luckeyParticipantif I want to watch. After last year’s fiasco, at least somewhat, I was very encouraged when I saw how many of the stars really brought a lot of talent to the stage. I’m very glad I stayed with it. I really do believe it’s mostly a popularity contest. However, having said that, it was great when the most popular really had the dance moves to back up being in the competition. It’s going to be hard to top this season’s group when they start selecting for next season. I’ve been a Steeler fan since 1970, so you know I was cheering for Hines. This was the first year that I actually called in to vote, so I’m a happy camper this morning!
May 25, 2011 at 1:56 pm #24005PattiParticipantbut that’s never going to change. Just like we all have our favorites with our soap characters. One sees them one way, another in a totally different light. But you know what, you’re right about Chelsea being the best dancer, but honestly sometimes I think early Mark might just have lost it for her. His open display of arrogance turned me off for a while there, and I’m sure it did with many voters, too. He calmed down at the end, but too little, too late, IMO. Hines has been Hines, from beginning to end, and I’m so happy for him. Wasn’t his mom a hoot??? Talk about no emotion. She could have cracked a smile when her son came over to give her a kiss instead of just swatting him away like a fly. Oh, well, I’m sure she’s very proud of her son. Kirstie had a much higher fanbase than I obviously gave her credit for, but I still have to say Hines deserved it. Plus, I love Kym Johnson; not too crazy about Mark. But he’ll never find another partner so completely in sync with him and his style, ever. She was the perfect partner for him. And yes, from August to February, football is my passion. That’s when Hines Ward will become the enemy. LOL.
May 25, 2011 at 9:32 pm #24015luckeyParticipant"Terrible Towel" to Emmet Smith as he passed him last night after his last performance. That would have been a hoot too! It was great to see Franco and Lynn in the audience the last couple of nights along with "The Bus" (Jerome Bettis). Love my Steelers!
May 25, 2011 at 10:02 pm #24019PattiParticipantthose guys have been there in the audience cheering him from the start. I liked Emmitt Smith and thought he was good, but I have to say, Hines was better. When I watch him on the football field against my precious Ravens, I grit my teeth and scream at our players like a "Ravin’ Maniac" —- "WATCH WARD….WATCH WARD…." and before I can say it a third time, he’s in the end zone. He’s just that good (damn it). LOL.
May 25, 2011 at 11:26 pm #24023luckeyParticipantI’m an emotional mess before, during and after! I’ve been known to close my eyes and hold my breath at times. I love your "Ravin’ Maniac" reference! I’m like that about Ray Lewis when he’s after Hines.
May 26, 2011 at 10:57 am #24039BonbonParticipantwhen Len told Hines he was the best football player/dancer they’ve had on the show.
May 26, 2011 at 5:09 pm #24049MKParticipantI’m glad Hines won too. I don’t think he was the best dancer but I couldn’t help but really like him. Did you notice at the end when they announced the winners, that Kirstie grabbed Max (she didn’t look too happy) and they hugged for a long time over to the side and they didn’t go over to Kym and Hines to congratulate them? All the others from the season went over and hugged them but Kirstie and Max were nowhere to be seen, at least until 11:00 when the show ended. Maybe they went over later when the show ended. I can see being disappointed but I think usually the 2nd place couple hugs each other and then goes right over to the winning couple. Seemed a bit odd to me.
May 27, 2011 at 1:42 pm #24062luckeyParticipantgot really disgusted and Kirstie noticed and grabbed him like she didn’t want him to go off. I think her keeping him from reacting negatively is what kept them from going over to congratulate Hines and Kym. Then with all the hoopla, it was too late to do it on camera. At least that’s how I saw it…could be wrong. It was obvious that they did not acknowledge the winners.
