and he is another favorite of mine. It is simply extraordinary how he is completely deaf but can pick up the music simply by watching Peta, like he did with beating the congo drum. He is an amazing young man who seems to have no disability, or even any regard for having one. I suppose that is due in large to the fact that his entire family is deaf, so I assume he has never imagined life any other way for him and for his family. Beautiful human interest story. He did lose step ever so slightly at the beginning of their dance, but picked right up on it and went on to do another very entertaining performance. I’m a little surprised that the judges were somewhat critical of it, though.
And, goodness, "hail to the king of beasts" …. that samba to The Circle of Life from The Lion King, performed by Wanya Morris and Lindsay was outstanding! I have to believe he will go far in this season’s competition.
April 13, 2016 at 10:45 pm #51404caseyParticipantfor stepping up beautifully to this challenge. She deserves a lot of credit.
April 14, 2016 at 2:40 pm #51407BonbonParticipanta special TV series on deafness and one thing that was brought up was having their hearing restored. Just about all of them had no desire to do so. In fact, one girl’s deaf family practically disowned her because she was considering having surgery to get hearing after being born deaf. They all said basically that they preferred their life the way it was and didn’t really consider it a handicap. Very interesting and something totally surprising, to me, at least.
April 19, 2016 at 1:08 pm #51429caseyParticipantrefer to Maks as her “finacee” last night?
April 19, 2016 at 1:10 pm #51430caseyParticipantI thought some of the pairs did better w/new partners – Jodie definitely benefitted for a confidence builder and wow, I sure loved that pasa double. Most of the couples did quite well I felt. I loved Paige despite the dance not being pure ballroom.
Always enjoy seeing that “shiver me timbers” handsome Maks!April 19, 2016 at 4:17 pm #51436PattiParticipanthe’s fair, intelligent in his critique, and got it right every time last night. I don’t always agree with Len’s critique, but Maks is honest and truthful, and that’s what these stars need; not that OTT b/s that Bruno gives.
Once again, I loved Nyle’s waltz. He really is amazing, and with a new partner yet!
April 26, 2016 at 12:48 pm #51458caseyParticipantThis is a wide open game now which I like. Nyle better not get too cocky. I wasn’t thrilled with his comments last night about how Val was his only competition. Jodie was very strong in that demanding performance and Paige is showing she’s not just a fighter. She actually looked balletic at times.
Doug was the obvious choice to leave.April 26, 2016 at 4:08 pm #51459MKParticipantWhat a ridiculous choice of music last night. What was the theme? Iconic songs or videos? I liked a couple songs but Pink? Really? I had no idea what that "iconic" song or video was. With all the Broadway shows and hit movies from the past, there were no other songs to pick from? This show is becoming less and less about ballroom but I still enjoy watching it for the judges, Tom, the sets and some of the dances.
Anyway, I think Nyle was joking around. I didn’t take it seriously. My least favorite now is Ginger. She seems to walk around the stage a lot. Watching her dance to Janet Jackson’s "Nasty", I was thinking how lackluster it is. There was no intensity, and no strong dance moves. She was doing all the moves but there was nothing behind them; only rehearsed movement with no passion behind it. She and her husband can go next. At least he wasn’t in her rehearsal this week (or at least they didn’t show him there). Then Ginger was complaining how tough this is for her so she took a few days off from GMA this week because of all the traveling and the baby. You know what? YOU signed up for it.
My favorites are Wanya, Paige and Nyle. I think they will be the top three, though you just never know on this show. Paige is just so much fun to watch and so is Wanya. Nyle is amazing because he can’t hear a thing and can still keep the beat.
April 27, 2016 at 3:04 pm #51472BonbonParticipantAlthough, those model types typically have pretty big egos so I would expect anything different from him. But I thought the judges were very harsh on him. I thought his dance went quite well and it was certainly entertaining. I know they can’t make exceptions for his deafness but they certainly shouldn’t criticize him like they did because he missed a couple of beats. The guy with the one arm was always getting kudos for what he did but they never criticized him because he couldn’t do some of the lifts, etc. I suspect because he was a war hero and not a model.
I think the theme was iconic dances, not songs. With a xcouple of exceptions, I liked the choices. I still don’t think they always match the music to the dances enough though. After just seeing Dirty Dancing on stage last week, I was surprised they didn’t have that one. That was certainly iconic.
April 27, 2016 at 10:13 pm #51474caseyParticipantbased on The Mask was wild and slightly out of control which I felt was right on just like the movie.
May 10, 2016 at 12:47 pm #51560caseyParticipantI haven’t seen such a close competition among several on this show. I’m thinking the audience will mae it Nyle but it could be anyone. I wasn’t overly impressed with Ginger although she was certainly competent, but the past two weeks she’s upped her game. I really like Paige and feel she has improved the most and a pleasant surprise.
May 22, 2016 at 10:49 pm #51637shadowParticipantI have watched DWTS ever since it came on. Erin grinds on my nerves She is so mouthy. I think it would be a good idea for Erin to leave and also for “judge” Carrie Ann. She goes over board with her judgement.
I don’t have any favorites this year. Ginger is a pretty woman, but I don’t care for Val , he gives me the creeps for some reason.
