don’t get me started on another show! I’m already "addicted" now to Southland because of y’all…now I’ll have to sit down and watch "Dancing" to see what you are talking about. Guess what they say is true – "The best advertising is word of mouth".
April 7, 2010 at 1:57 pm #11828PattiParticipantbut I think this week they got it right. Kate may have been bad….again…. but it was time for that wonderful icon, Buzz, to "Buzz off" the show. Sorry, sir, but you had no business being there in the first place. There is just no way in this world, or outer space for that matter, that anyone 80 years old can keep up with the younger dancers, AND HE WAS DOING A WALTZ. What do you think he would have done with the Quick Step?
April 7, 2010 at 2:08 pm #11830BonbonParticipantI don’t think the producers have any intentions of these "older" people they put on advancing very far. They are there to appease us and give us someone the cheer for. However, as someone who is "older," I’d much rather have someone with the potential to go all the way than to steal votes from those who just plan can’t dance.
And I don’t know why I am so rooting for Kate to stay but I am. I just wish she could let loose and give it all she’s got. She is plainly scared to death. I feel bad for Tony that he got such a bad partner because I really like him.
Now, for my prediction…it’s gotta be Nicole with Evan a close second.
April 7, 2010 at 3:25 pm #11833annieoParticipantI haven’t been as engaged in DWTS this season as I really don’t know any of the dancers. That being said, I have tuned in to watch Kate. She may be scared, but I also think she has two left feet. So do I, but I would never consent to being on the show knowing that I do. What I told my husband, though, is that she will not be voted out until the end even though her scores are in the toilet with the judges, because that is why people keep tuning in and voting her in – to see what she will do next. She always seems to be the last to dance, which I think is deliberate from the producers, thinking viewers will watch the whole show and not tune out. Don’t know if there’s any truth to this statement, but it’s my opinion! I think DWTS has become a popularity contest, not a skill contest. And popularity can go either way – bad popular or good popular. I truly hope someone wins because they have improved each week and by the end of the season can really dance. I don’t think Kate has shown any improvement. I thought Buzz was quite gracious in his defeat.
April 7, 2010 at 3:46 pm #11836BonbonParticipantWhich is why people like Cloris Leachman, George Hamilton, and some of the other horrible dancers in the past have stayed on for so long. It’s like Buzz Aldrin said, he was hoping for all the old patriotic fogies would vote for him. But that’s what the producers are looking for, dancers (good or bad) who bring in the viewers. Actually, you’ve got the same thing with AI, it’s all a matter of how popular the singers are with the viewers. It’s why Shannen Doherty was voted off so soon. She wasn’t the worst dancer but she just doesn’t have any significent of fan base.
I was wondering why Kate is always at the end of the show. Maybe she has many more supporters than think. She hasn’t been in the bottom two yet. Surprising for how horrible she dances!
The only thing I don’t like about the show is how contrived the "arguements" and fighting between the couples are. If they can’t make it realistic, don’t do it at all. But I LOVE the costumes, hair styles and music…those singers are EXTREMELY talented, as is the orchestra.
Now just get Pam Anderson out of there. Ugh, I can’t stand her. Her constant gyrations make me want to puke!
April 7, 2010 at 6:10 pm #11839luckeyParticipantsue for full custody with child support because she’s now working and has three nannies watching the children while she’s in LA for the show. By the time he gets this into the legal system, she’ll be voted off!
April 7, 2010 at 7:33 pm #1184253tdogsParticipantas an "oldster"? Our own dear Maggie (Susan) from Day’s – wasn’t she a Rockette in her earlier career? That would make me watch…I tried to watch this since you guys were all talking about it but it became to much of a "soap opera" instead of a dance contest for me.
April 7, 2010 at 8:58 pm #11845BonbonParticipantMaggie is on an NBC show and DWTS is ABC. They’d never ask her. But she’d certainly give them a run for their money. Although would it be fair to have a professional dancer compete?
April 7, 2010 at 9:33 pm #1184753tdogsParticipantcontest – I’d didn’t think about that…but that aside wasn’t Kate from 8 on Discovery or The Learning Channel – (I never watched that show either) is that owned by ABC? Are all the amateur contestants out of work actors or Hollywood celebrities, former astronauts? No one working currently? Like I said, I don’t know much about the show other that what you guysies have said and watching it once…
April 8, 2010 at 11:39 am #11857BonbonParticipantTLC is not owned by ABC, it’s owned by the Discovery Network. And not all the contestants are out of work. All of the soap stars that have been on are currently working, and they seem to have at least one every year. I don’t think current employment (or not) is necessarily a criteria. The main concern is that they draw in the viewers. Which has really happened this year. They’ve had record (for DWTS) numbers this season. I’m sure they picked Kate because of the huge controversy and media attention she’s gotten this past year. Like her or hate her, she’s apparently brought in the votes.
