Well, did you guys up along the eastern coast feel it?  That’s just a run-of-the-mill quake for Californians but if you’ve never felt an earthquake before, I imagine it was quite scary.  Thankfully, there wasn’t much damage or any injuries.  But it can be very exciting.

If you’re wondering if you’re having an earthquake, just look for something hanging, chandeliers, etc.  That’s the first clue ’cause they’ll swing like crazy in just a small temblor.  I used to have a thingie for hanging glasses in my kitchen and any little quake would set them clinking.  Lots’a fun.

Looks like Irene is headed our way and it may be a Cat 3 by the time it gets here.  Truthfully, I’d rather have the earthquake.  If it’s a Cat 3 I’ll have to put up my hurricane shutters and that is a hugh job.  Have to hire someone to do it to the tune of $200/up and $200/down.  Plus, you have to live in a dark cave all the while they’re up.  Keep your fingers crossed people.

quake was centered right outside Washington D.C.  I live about 15 miles outside of Toledo, Ohio in the rural area and the newspeople said it was felt around here.  Hubby and I were outside working on the farm, but never felt anything as we had some of the equipment running.  There’s a fault that runs through Ohio and I’ve felt temblors before and they definitely make you stop what you’re doing.

I didnt feel anything from the earthquake here in ohio,  heck I probably slept through it cause i was asleep during days, I taped it. LOL.  I woke up about 2 and they were on there talking about the big quake. LOL.

Stay safe down there Bonbon!  I have a very good friend in North Carolina she lives right on Holden Beach.  but she’s moving inland.  so I can worry alittle less about her then!  But I pray the rest of you on the east coast are safe!

every home in Europe never took off in the USA.  They are steel reinforced and go on the outside of the windows (but you roll them down from the inside), mostly used for security as they lock.  I know they have electric as well as manual, they also keep the heat anc cold out and they can keep out storm damage, (not sure about Cat 3 but I’m sure there is something out there).  There are companies in the USA that do them, I know if they were more common place over here the price would drop – I lived in Europe for seven years in my 20’s and thought they were great!

just off Google for example:  http://www.rollshuttersystemsusa.com/rssaz/shutters.asp

As for the earthquake back east…we here on the west coast feel for you all but it’s a "snoozer ho-hum".  We’re so use to the shake, rattle and roll, so it’s no big deal, the hurricane makes us west coasters a lot more nervous.

would cost me $15,000 to install on my 15 windows.  More than I’d like to spend.

Plus, contrary to what they say on that site, you cannot use them unless a hurricane is predicted in the next 24 hours and must be removed 24 hours after it has passed.  Some people try to use them when they go on vacation of the snowbirds when they go back home but they get fined if they do.

I said I’d rather have an earthquake instead of the hurricane but that’s not really true.  You know when a hurricane is coming and can prepare for it.  It’s just that the prepration is such a hassle.  When Wilma went through here five years ago (my first hurricane), in spite of all the damage we had, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected.  I sat and watched TV (until the power went out) through the whole thing.  Earthquakes (after the Loma Prieta one, I lived 5 miles from the epicenter) scare the bejesus out of me.

DH & I were in the car on Eastern LI when it hit. Didn’t feel a thing. Now we have earthquake envy. Can’t wait to be teased by my brother in Fremont, CA.

Here in Massachusetts a lot of people felt the quake in Boston and south of Boston.  I live a little north of Boston and didn’t feel it where I live.  I took the day off yesterday as I usually commute into Boston.   Had I been at work, I probably would have felt it.  On the news they showed a lot of places being evacuated in Boston.  They even showed the building where I work!.  Now they are talking about Mass. possibly getting a hurricane this weekend.

and didn’t feel it either.  Some people in my city did indicate that they felt it but not too strong.   Here’s hoping Irene decides to leave us alone!

Fremont is right on the Hayward Fault and they get a lot of shakin’ there.  He’ll probably call your quake a little jiggle.  :o)

Most of the time when you are in a car you don’t feel the smaller quakes anyway.  It would just feel like you are going over some rough pavement.

SW, you got a great day to be in Maine!  Talk about gorgeous weather the last few days.  Now I know when I go food shopping on Friday or Saturday,  the bottled water and bread and milk will be mostly gone.  One thing I have to say for the Boston meteorologists is that they are not hitting the panic button on this one.  They are telling people that a hurricane, category 1 or 2, is a possibility but at the very least it will be a tropical storm and that the storm is still far away and we just need to stay tuned and be prepared.  Either way, looks like we’ll get something!  I think the wind would be the scariest thing of all.  Guess we should really enjoy the next few days!

and I felt like someone was behind me shaking my chair for what seemed to be about 10-15 seconds, and that was it.  My son looked over and asked, "mom, did you feel that," and then we started getting calls on our cells from home asking if we felt the earthquake.  Other than that one tremor, I can honestly say I thought we were experiencing some sort of squall or high wind, but we definitely felt it.
