Days M.O. for years – the triangle. This soap simply cannot let a good storyline play out without throwing a wrench into it that no one likes. I too was just getting interested in Nicole/EJ and we barely get a glance at Taylor when she’s suddenly taken a giant leap right into the middle of them.
I don’t know anything about JS not liking his character. Has he come out and complained about EJ being too negative?February 14, 2011 at 2:28 pm #20895PattiParticipantstated that he did not like the way the writing was portraying E.J., and brings up the rape story line, which he said he hated, and had long discussions with the writers and KC about it. Evidently, he lost because, they did it anyway. Then recently he stated that the writing was "f…ing stupid (and yes, he swears when he gets frustrated in interviews), when he was referring to the Sydney kidnapping, not the one by Nicole, but the one which he masterminded using Anna. He was especially appalled where he had to do the scene with putting the baby’s bloody clothes in the river. He said it was wrong and that he did not feel comfortable doing it. Now, he aggressively fends off interviewers who bring up the rape storyline and says that he and TPTB have gotten over it, and so should everyone else. To that I say, you are probably right, James; however, gone is not forgotten. Needless to say, I feel strongly that this could very well be his reasoning to give up acting and move back to either England or perhaps New Zealand, and not be an actor any longer. This part is purely my own speculation, and I think a lot of it is going to depend on his redemption by falling in love with the character of Taylor. JMHO there.
February 14, 2011 at 8:16 pm #20897BonbonParticipantit seems to me the actor shouldn’t care how their character is written as long as it gives them something they can portray capably. I’ve heard many actors say they like to play comedy or the "bad guy" because it’s meatier that just your run of the mill character. And I really can’t imagine an actor having the audacity to go to the producer and tell them he isn’t "comfortable" playing the character as it’s written. Boy, that a good way to be shown the door in a hurry. The writers aren’t there at the pleasure of the actor. I think James is pretty lucky he is still working on Days with an attitude like that.
I’ve heard Peter R. say in an interview that it doesn’t make any difference to him which way they take his character as he still has to show up every morning and read the lines as written. Maybe that’s why he’s been around so long. In fact, I think that was one of the main reasons Louise Sorrell got thrown out on her derierre, because she was complaining about how HERr character was written. James would do well to take a cue from her.
February 14, 2011 at 9:46 pm #20899SWParticipantsay he wasn’t comfortable doing the scenes he was going to have to do and either he quit or he was allowed to quit. A replacement was quickly hired for him in the role of Victor Adam Newman. I’m not sure if the previous actor is still acting anymore. But it does happen. The actor that quit didn’t want to do a homosexual scene along with the other dastardly deeds that were being written. The replacement has seemed to find nothing wrong with doing whatever the writers write as long as he has a job. Different strokes for different folks. So, if James wants to quit, let him!
February 14, 2011 at 10:49 pm #20902PattiParticipanteven watching him thunderstruck by Taylor. And, why shouldn’t he be; she (Natalia) looked beautiful, and I liked them today much more than I thought I would. I see more disaster headed Nicole’s way, and Stefano made sure he rubbed it in. But, boy-oh-boy, he sure does know Nicole. Too bad that she will once again be in competition winning E.J.’s love, only this time with her own sister. I think I am really more anxious than I thought I would be to see how this whole thing turns out.
February 14, 2011 at 11:40 pm #20903NoraParticipantMe too Patti I liked today more too. i’m sitll on the fence though about how I feel about these 2. I know alot of you dont feel sorry for Nicole but I do. no wonder her and Chloe became friends. they are alot alike in the disaster department. is Chloe going to be Nicole’s maid of honor? I am actually happy with Kate with one point she made today that she told MElanie that she is not blameless in this whole mess! finally! and I think she realizes it. sure Kate isnt going to buy your lame excuse that it was a goodbye kiss.
February 15, 2011 at 1:02 pm #20912BonbonParticipantIf you are asked to play a role that you are morally uncomfortable with as an individual, you certainly shouldn’t have to. Like James and the rape. But, we didn’t actually see the rape so it’s not like he had to do something he was didn’t agree with.
I kind of look at it like me going to my boss and saying I’m not comfortable with doing that report, or heading up that project, or anything else in my job description that I just might not want to do. That is your job and you’re supposed to do it. Like I said before, the producer/writers are not there at the pleasure of the actors, it’s the other way around. The actors are actually almost at the bottom of the totem pole.
February 15, 2011 at 2:27 pm #20918caseyParticipantactors get too big for their britches and believe they are bigger than the part and forget they are the HIRED HANDS. How privileged are they to work in an industry that pays handsomely and affords an elite comfortable lifestyle.
Yes, there are lines that IMO can be drawn – like perfoming nude or doing some highly objectionable act.
Certainly rape comes into that category, but JS has to ask himself would the character do something like that. My problem is the lack of justice for these unsavory incidents.
But from the bits and pieces I’ve read from JS interviews I wouldn’t exactly call him a pillar of moral nobility.February 15, 2011 at 2:37 pm #20920DeeLanParticipantI think if an actor has been in a role for some time he gets to know that character and how they would act and do in any given circumstance so they should have some say with some things they’re asked to do. The writers, especially on a soap seem to have a revolving door and most probably don’t have the slightest insight into the character they’re writing for. That’s why we complain about the fast 180 some characters take. The actor should have some say in the character whether it’s actual dialogue, mannerisms or even SL’s.
February 15, 2011 at 8:39 pm #2093053tdogsParticipanton one post! (Granted my computer was down yesterday and it was Valentines Day), but golly-gosh-gee – this one has stirred up the proverbial s—storm!
I agree with most all of what you all said – especially, about it being the same story line that DOOL keeps rehashing over and over again – the dreaded triangle. I don’t care who the characters are in my beloved show – I am just sick of the three-somes. I was enjoying Nicole and EJ together for the brief second they were allowed to explore their relationship.
With Bo and Hope reconciling on Monday’s show, (and kudo’s to Peter’s acting while sitting on the bench speaking with Hope – real tears!), I couldn’t help thinking wonder how long it will be before it’s Bo and Hope’s turn to be split up once and again!
