Was Eric in any position to keep it quiet as to what Holly had told him. Yes, he was once a priest, but when he isn’t anymore, should he adhere to the seal of the confessional, & given that Holly wasn’t in any position to tell him that she had sinned, i.e. “would you listen to my confession, father”, given that she wasn’t one of his parishioners, she’s a member of his family. Eric knew about what Tate is going through, he knows how Brady is on the verge, he knows what this is doing to Brady & he’s willing cover Holly’s ass, so to speak, by agreeing to keep it quiet, yes, granted Holly did confess to Brady, her mother, her step-father & Eric, no less, but still Brady would go ballistic in a millisecond once he learns that his brother Eric was willing to cover Holly’s ass & was willing to keep it quiet, now wouldn’t he? So does it matter that Holly confessed if & when Brady learns that as to what Eric was willing to keep quiet?
I was also surprised when Eric agreed to not tell anyone what Holly was going to share without knowing what it was. Of course, Holly wouldn’t have opened up to him if he didn’t agree to keep silent. Eric already had a strong feeling that Holly was not completely honest about the drugs, so maybe with that in mind, he agreed to keep silent knowing full well what his next step was going to be: tell your mother. He also knew this was tearing Holly apart inside.
But think about Brady. Eric was piecing it together that the narcotics were Holly’s, he may not have been true-positive that they were, but he was suspecting it, he didn’t let Brady to get wind of that, did he, then you put it out there that he agreed to not tell anyone what Holly was going to share without knowing what it was, & when he put that out there, do you really think that Brady would care about that, given that what would matter to him, is that Eric agreed not to tell anyone & then use splitting hairs to get out of it? Wouldn’t that be on Eric once Brady ends up learning of it?
