Frances Reid, the beloved star of "Days of Our Lives" since its inception in 1965, has passed away. Ms. Reid died on February 3, 2010 in California at the age of 95. Known to millions of fans throughout the world as Salem’s favorite grandmother, Alice Horton, Reid was the last remaining original castmember of "Days." Please visit http://www.jason47.com for a special tribute to Ms. Reid.
February 4, 2010 at 11:18 am #10231MetsFanRachelParticipantI am so sad to wake up to this news. She was a beautiful, caring woman who I feel like I have known for my whole life! I am thinking of her and her family today – and of MacDonald Carry (sp?), who I am sure is happy to see her today in heaven!
February 4, 2010 at 2:47 pm #10239IzzyBParticipantThis is very sad news. News that I knew would come some day, but still very sad. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all of the Days cast who are close to her. This is a sad day for the Days community. I hope that the writers and producers do something very nice for her on Days as a tribute, because she deserves it.
Everyone always talked so highly of her and she seems like a very nice person. I have known her since I was 13 when I started watching Days and she will be missed by many people including myself.
February 4, 2010 at 3:12 pm #10243mommytutuParticipantThis is so sad, it’s like my "adopted" grandmother died. When I think of Days, I think of Frances Reid. I know she has been in poor health for quite a while, but it is still sad knowing that she really will never be on the show again. I hope Days does a wonderful tribute to this beautiful woman who made Days worth watching for so many years. I love you Alice Horton .
February 4, 2010 at 4:16 pm #10246caseyParticipantYes sad, but she lived a full long happy life of accomplishment. And what a treasure trove of memories for Days fans.
February 4, 2010 at 8:36 pm #10251Ms. JakeParticipantIt’s so true, you know it will happen but when it does it’s still so sad. She was the grandmother most everyone wished they had! I was one….God Bless, & I’m sure they will do a tribute to honor her memory.
February 4, 2010 at 8:49 pm #10252Jason47ParticipantSeveral scans of interviews of Frances have now been posted. One is from 1993 and includes comments from Suzanne Rogers, Louise Sorel, Kristian Alfonso, Peggy McCay, Susan Seaforth Hayes and past castmembers on why they love Frances:
February 4, 2010 at 8:49 pm #10254majencoParticipantI am saddened to hear of this. I have watched her since the 80’s. She was such a great actress, everyone’s surrogate grandma. I will always remember her on the back of Bo’s bike.
February 4, 2010 at 11:23 pm #10264BonbonParticipantIf, and they’d BETTER, they do a tribute, they tape so far in advance, I wonder how long it will be before we see Alice die on the show.
February 4, 2010 at 11:35 pm #10268Carol JParticipantThis is a sad day; Frances Reid was a surrogate grandmother to all of us. Their tribute better do her justice; I expect to need a box of tissues.
Thank you Frances.
February 5, 2010 at 3:02 pm #10281IzzyBParticipantMainly because I imagine they are going to try and get back some people for the funeral and to do that will take time. I can see Jenn, Melissa, Julie, Doug, and others who are not on other shows to come back.
February 5, 2010 at 4:25 pm #10289islandgalParticipantIs suspend the SL for a day – bring back as many of the cast members who worked with FR – and tape them reminiscing some favorite FR moments – both personal memories and favorite Alice Horton memories (then show those clips). Maybe Peter & Kristen together, Suzanne, etc.
So that the tribute is NOT part of the storyline, but a real tribute/memorial to the actress and her longevity on the show as a leader, matriarch, etc. Some of the BEST lines, great scenes. Almost too much to just do one hour (actually 43 min – although if they could get a sponsor -could do it with limited commercial interruption.) Wouldn’t that be the best sendoff?
Then, with regard to the SL proper, they could just occasionally say how much they miss Mrs. H. – the real emotion that will come off on their faces will be enough.
February 5, 2010 at 6:27 pm #10295jesigirl22ParticipantI was half awake when I heard the news this morning. Although we have not seen Gran onscreen for many years, her presence could somehow be felt. She was one of the few constants in this rollercoaster of a show. She will truly be missed.
February 6, 2010 at 1:45 am #10304Misty004ParticipantOMG what a horrible day! God Bless her. I knkow that she is in heaven and looking down on her adopted "Days" family….she has been sorely missed on Days and now will continue to be missed.
A very great lady…the world is a sadder place with her passing.
February 7, 2010 at 4:33 pm #10314etquilterParticipantWill you all PLEASE keep a post near the top when the date of any televised tribute will air. Lots of us no longer watch, but would hate to miss that.
