from Florida. Goody says it’s cooling up there in TN and the leaves are turning. Not here. It’s in the low 90s again today. We had an unusually cold winter and an unusually hot summer. I hope we have a normal winter this year because winters in Florida are about the best weather you can find anywhere.
I got some great news yesterday. My best friend back in California is finally coming to see me (after living here for ten years!!!). She’s not coming until March but it’s something I can really look forward to. She’s probably the best friend I’ve ever had and I missed her so much when I moved. She doesn’t have a computer so we didn’t keep in touch very often. Anyway, I’ve got some planning to do. Can’t start too early!
So what’s going on where YOU live?
September 13, 2010 at 5:37 pm #16223NoraParticipantThats awsome Bonbon! have a great time!
It’s a beautiful day here in ohio too. It’s my 7 year wedding anniversary! I cant be with STeve unfortunately. I’m going to the olive garden with my mom later though! Yum-O! I saw 2 of my friends yesterday they came out for a visit. I’ve known them since kindergarden! I’m having lunch with another friend tomorrow.
Days is on now. I had to laugh at Viv’s daydream about Carly and Chloe, esp the baby satan one! Rediculous!! LOL!
September 13, 2010 at 5:44 pm #16224DeeLanParticipantIn Southeast Alabama it’s in the 90’s today and suppose to be that way all week. Does get down to the 60’s at night though. We too had a horribly hot summer here with heat index’s in the 100 & teens.
Not doing much today except laundry. Need to have some clean clothes to wear to cooking class tomorrow. Yes, Don and I take a cooking class on Tuesday afternoons. Last week I taught the class and they learned how to make my mom’s Homemade Chicken & Noodles (noodles are like dumplings), Snicker Salad and Crab/Pasta Salad. We’ve become friends with the instructor and his wife Chef Michael and Jeanne Sigler and they’ve ben here for dinner on many occasions. He’s had my Chicken & Noodles a few times and asked that I teach the class. Even though it was out of my comfort zone it was a lot of fun. This is the last 6 week session for the year and as we did last year we’re having a pot luck for the last class where we all bring in a dish and recipe to share. I’ve got requests for homemade pizza which is a combined effort as I make the homemade crust and Don makes the homemade sauce. The toppings we have to buy ready made.
Thanksgiving won’t be as good as last year because my stepdaughter and granddaughter aren’t going to be here. They live in Sweden and last year they came to visit with Lisa’s fiance and his 15 year old brother. While they were here we planned a wedding in 4 days and Don got to attend his daughter’s wedding. He wasn’t too pleased about his ex-wife visiting but he was cordial and even though I was a nervous wreck having never met the woman before I was proud of myself for being outgoing and friendly toward her. I wanted her to see what a great wife Don had and what a great guy she let get away.
September 13, 2010 at 7:09 pm #16229Carol JParticipantIt’s 70 degrees this afternoon; just the way I like it. This summer was a bummer- way too hot for me. We did visit Wyoming to see my daughter and her family in July and northern California in August for my niece’s wedding.
September 13, 2010 at 9:31 pm #16236kprstrsParticipantIt’s rainy (STORMY) in Iowa! I just got up (I’m a night shift worker, not just lazy!!) It’s supposed to start cooling down now. thank God!!
September 13, 2010 at 9:41 pm #16238PattiParticipanttopping out at around 80 degrees, low humidity, and gorgeous sunshine. After a summer close to and sometimes at or over 100 degrees with sweltering high humidity, this is a blessing to us. I’m absolutely loving this weather. I turned my air off last week and haven’t had to put it back on yet. Right now, all is right with the world because I would venture to say that practically our entire state is patiently awaiting the debut of our beloved Ravens, who start their season tonight playing the Jets in New Jersey. We’re the first game of an unusual double-header Monday Night Football game. The Ravens are our second children, and our household’s pride and joy (besides my grandkids that is), and my sons, DIL’s and the kids will be in our Ravens’ jerseys waiting on pins and needles for opening kick-off, and we’ll stay that way from beginning to end — that’s what a bunch of Raven-maniacs we all are. LOL.
************** GOOOOOOOOOOO RAVENS ***************
September 13, 2010 at 10:04 pm #1624353tdogsParticipantrecipes like "dumpling" chicken soup and especially that Snicker Salad and Crab/Pasta Salad and not share…and I just came home from having lunch at Applebees with a friend but after hearing those titles of food, I want to try them…(especially as I am now listening as I type to Dr. Oz talking about loosing ten pounds would help all our health ) but I still love great recipes to cook once and awhile!
September 14, 2010 at 2:56 am #16247DeeLanParticipantMy husband’s watching the second half of the unusual double header "Go Chiefs" The Chiefs are in another double header also at Arrowhead where there’s another game taking place before they play so they didn’t start until around 9:30pm.
September 14, 2010 at 12:36 pm #16248kprstrsParticipantHubby is a HUGE Chiefs fan! Glad they won last night!!
September 14, 2010 at 1:05 pm #16249luckeyParticipantbeautiful weather in the last two weeks after a sweltering summer. Hubby and I farm over 900 acres, so weather is something we monitor everyday…sometimes several times during the day! Fall is my favorite time of the year, so I’m loving this! Not looking forward to winter, but this will be my first winter as a retiree who will not have to drive in it if I don’t want to! What a concept!!
September 14, 2010 at 3:32 pm #16252BonbonParticipantI was most looking forward to not having to get up in the morning ’til I was darn good and ready Know what happened? Now, every morning at 6:30, my eyes pop wide open and there is NO going back to sleep. (Once my dogs know I’m awake if I don’t get up, they start bugging me.)
As for weather, as beautiful as yesterday was, it’s raining cats and dogs now. But I don’t mind the rain at all. It keeps the yard watered and the pool full.
September 14, 2010 at 4:34 pm #16253luckeyParticipantwhen I was going to the office, I was getting up at 5:00 AM. Fortunately, I’m sleeping a bit later til about 6:30 or 7:00. We have a huge yard here at our farm, so I have a lot of outdoor upkeep that I love! I used to do a little each day when I got home from work and then usually a full day on Saturday. Now, I wander around outside everyday doing a little here and a little there as my heart desires…and the flower beds and lawn demand! But it is truly a labor of love!
September 14, 2010 at 6:02 pm #1625653tdogsParticipant(to us in California, anything past the Rockies or the Sierras is very far east…) you must have gotten our summer this year…normally, we’re 100’s from July through early Sept. (now) and sometimes into October, and currently we’re in the mid 80’s with only a few days of upper 90’s to 100’s. So we’re loving our mild weather. And hoping for a very cold, wet winter!
We all are in awe here of what you all have to go through back east in your winter time with the ice storms, blizzards*, thunder/lightening, Snow as high as four story buildings, etc. each year. I see news reports on t.v. some times and people who live in snow country driving sedans – I guess snow tires work, but if I was going to have to drive that kind of stuff every winter, I’d invest in a 4X4 for sure! I own one of those here and all our pavement does is get a little wet…
And I am very much looking forward to winter and "cold". But our winter isn’t like your winter…I don’t have to wear a coat, (in fact, haven’t owned a coat in six years), a sweater on a "cold" day suffices…(and believe me I don’t like to be cold with my achey bones), but I’d much rather have the cooler weather. We get two seasons, Hot and Raining. Hot from April, to October – Rainy from November to March, (if we’re lucky), with a lot of nice sunny, cooler days in between. From June through September – nary a sprinkle.
I miss the fall weather with the leaves turning like you guysies back "east" have. That would be fun to visit. I only have to drive 50 miles to see snow (like – Donner Party snow*) in the winter if I want to see snow.
September 14, 2010 at 8:04 pm #16257BonbonParticipantis like weather in no other state. They say if you don’t like what’s happening, either wait a day or drive 50 miles and it’ll be different. There is warm all year around down around San Diego, mild all year in LA, hot as the hinges of Hades in central CA, cold and foggy much of the time in SF (although there can be a 30° difference in temps between SF and San Jose which is just 50 miles apart. And then you’ve got feets and feets of snow up in Tahoe, some of the most beautiful snow I’ve seen anywhere else in the world. California is certainly a unique state when it comes to weather. And let’s not forget the earthquakes. You’re not a true Californian if you can’t differentiate between a small temblor and a truck going by.
But one thing I always missed in my 33 years there was thunder and lightning. I LOVE sitting and watching the rain come down and see the bright flashes and humongous boomers that rattle the whole house. Or I love cuddling up in my nice comfy bed and listening to the same thing. That’s one thing we’ve got plenty of in Florida. Plus, as I’ve said before, the best possible weather you could ever ask for in the winter. Another thing I miss about CA though is I could always put the top down on my car in May and leave it down until October. I can’t even leave it down one day here or, like what has happened to me a couple of times, I’ll end up with two inches of water inside!
September 14, 2010 at 8:55 pm #1626153tdogsParticipantand we have some of the most beautiful deserts, mountains and beaches in the world. I’ll tell ya what’s worse than the earthquakes…our taxes! They would scare the you-know-what outta most folks (except maybe New Yorkers). And living up here in northern Cali…you are correct, it’s like an 18 wheeler driving by but you mention the word "earthquake" to a non-Calfornian and it’s "freak out time" while with us it’s ho-hum…But then you mention hurricane or tornado to us and it’s "freakazoid time" for us. I guess it all depends on whatcha get used to, all I know is hurricanes and tornado’s happen every year for months on end but we only get earthquakes (the bad kind) once in a blue moon…now watch, next week we’ll drop off into the ocean (Heaven and God forbid!)
And I know Florida well, being a military brat up until I was age 25 – I was born in Escambia County at the navel station in Pensacola, but never lived in Florida – parents were just coming through to visit grandma after living over seas, and mother decided to go into labor with me. My father was born and raised there and I have lots of relatives (wouldn’t know them from Adam but they are there). Been back to visit on vacation as a youngster though. I loved watching the thunderstorms roll in across the sky…and the fact that every day it would rain for about 20 minutes, always made the air smell good (not good as you say for a convertable car)…ha-ha! How did you decide to move clear across country? Family? I used to love moving at the drop of the hat being a miltary family in fact, I still have that wonderlust to move every three years – it’s in my blood I guess. But I’ve been pretty much in this area for quiet awhile now…(at least until the earth moves!
