eggs for breakfast yet with this millions of eggs recall? I hardly ever (only once a week or so have an egg anymore). Now that there’s that scare out there of samonella (sp?) – all I crave and want now are hard-boiled, soft-boild, scrambled, over-easy, over-medium, chopped in my green salad, in my potato salad, egg-salad sandwiches, egg custard, poached, good grief!
And another thing I though of…with eggs…just heard on the radio last night that the CDC has come out with a notification that every one over the age of 6 months old – should get a flu shot this year and that flu shots will be out early at September 1st…………….now – question….don’t they incubate flu in eggs???? I’m just askin’ !
Just found this web site too:

August 21, 2010 at 7:53 pm #15662BonbonParticipantsaid that we are not at risk here in Florida. Good thing because I eat eggs every morning for b.fast…EVERY morning. But if you cook them properly, you shouldn’t have any trouble. You actually run that risk all the time anyway. Anytime you consume raw eggs or undercooked meat, you can get salmonella. This ‘outbreak’ is just telling us that the bug was confirmed in these lots.
The article said you are resistant to it if you have a lot of stomach acid. That’s me. I can’t even prevent all I produce from eating through my stomach THREE TIMES! Maybe that’s why I’ve never had trouble drinking the water in Mexico. I’ve got potent acid, kind of like that stuff they dripped in Alien that ate right through the space ship. So, don’t mess with me or I’ll SPIT on ya!
And, yes, they do incubate the flu vaccine in eggs. Maybe they give them a shot first?
August 22, 2010 at 12:39 pm #15672caseyParticipantMaybe I should, but I rarely give it a second thought. I just take sensible precautions and go from there. Remember how swine flu was hyped so much like it might become a plague? And it fizzled out. And what happened with the so-called impending bird flu some years back? Yes, people did get the swine flu and died from it, but so many of those cases were from complications and other issues. Many more died from “normal” flus.
August 22, 2010 at 6:01 pm #15673BonbonParticipantI pooh-poohed all that stuff when I was younger also but when you start getting up there in years it becomes much more serious and you sit up and pay closer attention.
And I don’t think the H1N1 fizzled out as much as it was averted by the mass innoculations that were instituted…fortunately. If the alarm wasn’t sounded, too many people would not have done anything about it and we could very well have ended up with a epidemic (or is is pandemic, I can never keep them straight? I think pandemic is the worser of the two). Unfortunately, it takes scare tactics like that to get people to take action and get their shots.
August 22, 2010 at 6:51 pm #1567453tdogsParticipanteggs, I just want to get the word out as much as possible – especially for those at risk, elderly, kids, etc. Plus, some states aren’t at risk because the tainted eggs never made it to their states but some areas are.
I also wanted to point out, (not trusting this current government), that flu innoculations are incubated in eggs, and it was "funny" to me (and not in the "funny" ha-ha way) that the CDC is now pushing everyone over the age of 6 months to get a flu shot and the flu vaccine is going to start earlier this year – September 1 – I do not trust this government that there are coincidenses when it comes to what and why they do what they do.
Heaven forbid if there is ever a chocolate recall! I’d be in big trouble!
August 22, 2010 at 7:17 pm #15675DeeLanParticipantI honestly believe the people in charge are overly cautious and rightly so.
If they say nothing and someone gets sick then there’s a lawsuit, if they say something and people don’t listen and someone gets sick then they can say "nobody told me". I think they’re erring on the side of caution and saving their own skins.
I saw a TV report years ago called "The Blame Game" It was about how sue happy we’ve become. One of their stories was a man who was riding a bicycle at night. He got hit by a car because the driver didn’t see him. The man sued the bicycle company because there was nothing on the bicycle that suggested using a headlight at night. Now companies and manufacturers are putting Common Sense Warnings on everything. We ALL know not to use the microwave in the tub but there’s warnings against that in manual. We ALL know not to let a baby play with plastic bags but you buy anything that’s packaged in plastic inside the box and there’s HUGE black letters to keep it away from children. Well, I take that back, we SHOULD all know and most people with a brain do but I’m sure there are some who would still say "nobody told me, I didn’t know" We’ve got laywers that will take the cases and judges that are willing to hear them so that reinforces the belief that it’s somebody elses fault because it’s not ours.
We’ve become a sue happy nation and due to that we suffer needless recalls because if they don’t someone will sue. We all know raw and undercooked chicken has the potential of making us sick with salmonella. We should all know that that pertains to raw eggs too but how many body builders drink raw eggs. How many people mishandle chicken and don’t know to clean the cutting surfaces with bleach when they’re done. How many mom’s let their kids eat raw cookie dough and lick the beaters from cake batter that contain raw eggs. (OK, I have to admit I still eat that stuff myself).
Sorry, another soapbox. I’ve got to stop carrying that thing around with me.

August 23, 2010 at 1:41 pm #15694luckeyParticipantfree range environment, so I’m not concerned.
