Sources have confirmed to Soap Opera Network that Dena Higley has been let go as Head Writer of NBC’s "Days of our Lives." Higley joined the writing team of ‘DAYS’ in 1985 as an Associate Head Writer. She remained in that position until March 6, 2003. She was named Head Writer soon after up until August 2003. In September 2003 she became a script writer until her departure in November 2004. She left "DAYS" in 2004 to become Head Writer of "One Life to Live." Her first episode aired in December of that year. She remained at "One Life" until September 2007.
After the WGA Writer’s strike, Higley returned to "Days of our Lives" in April 2008 and was named Head Writer.
This is the news I have been waiting for for a long time now. I hope the new headwriter makes changes for the better.

May 19, 2011 at 8:43 pm #2384053tdogsParticipanta leave of absence and had to get her severance pay (if any) and attorneys "ducks" all in a row before announcing firing to the public and the other writers have been working to change in the last few weeks what she had done to the show in the past few years.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — "Days of our Lives" Executive Producer Ken Corday has just released an official statement confirming our earlier reports that Dena Higley is out as Head Writer and Marlene Clark Poulter (aka: Marlene McPherson) and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr. are in as Co-Head Writers. According to Corday the change in writing regimes is "effective immediately."
"McPherson and Thomas will bring ‘Days of our Lives’ back to its core values by telling exciting stories with a fresh and contemporary approach including beloved characters," Corday said.
"Days of our Lives" tapes approximately two months in advance, so any writing changes will not hit the screen until late summer/early Fall.
This was on Shari Anderson’s Facebook Page
Marlene Clark Poulter and Darrell Ray Thomas have been named the new headwriters of Days of our Lives. Marlene worked with me on the show in the 80s and she was always one of the most talented writers I’ve worked with. Congratulations to them both and show them your support!

Plus, I have no respect for a HR who doesn’t even watch the show she writes for. All she’s ever done was show up, scratch out some ideas, collect a paycheck and leave, then leave it up to the real writers, the script writers, to make sense of it. Don’t let the door hit ya’ Dena.
May 20, 2011 at 12:22 am #23845trykeryderParticipantthe head writer for General Hospital was either fired or left on his own. I wonder if he will eventually end up on Days?
May 20, 2011 at 4:53 am #23855DeeLanParticipantHow long ago was it that Sami was essentially raped by R2? I remember hearing that one of the writers was let go after it happened, could Higey’s firing have anything to do with that also.
May 20, 2011 at 4:55 am #23854DeeLanParticipantRevoved due to double posting
May 20, 2011 at 10:40 am #23857SWParticipantEJ and the Dimeras into a corner that really demands some kind of jail time???
May 20, 2011 at 12:44 pm #23860BonbonParticipantI think if they’re going to put a rape in a story (and I don’t know how you call it anything but rape what Rafe2 did to Sami), you certainly are going to have to address much more seriously than they have done so far. Sami should be absolutely outraged, livid, and ready to cut Rafe2’s throat but all we’ve seen is a kind of "oh-well" attitude.
Also, RealRafe should be ready to do him some serious harm too.
May 20, 2011 at 1:55 pm #23865luckeyParticipantprotege’s of the now-deceased James Reilly. In my opinion, that’s not the greatest news. We can’t forget how bizarre the writing got with Reilly at the helm.
May 20, 2011 at 2:27 pm #23866PattiParticipantand not only Rafe-2 should have to pay for it, but Stefano and E.J. should, too, since they created this Frankenstein to begin with. Just like they should ALL pay for Faye’s death. I know R-2 did the crime, and they still don’t know he killed Faye, but they are responsible for his creation, so I think that makes them just as guilty for his wrong-doings.
May 20, 2011 at 2:31 pm #23867PattiParticipantbesides, they have the seal of approval from Sheri Anderson, and that’s enough said for me. Sheri was the best of the best, IMHO.
May 20, 2011 at 6:14 pm #23872Carol JParticipantLuckey, I agree, I hope they don’t go down the "Reilly" Road.
