I have to say that I think that drawing out Alice’s illness and eventual passing, is actually a good thing. I like that they are giving time for Alice’s family to come and say goodbye, and allowing the characters to interact with each other and such.
I think this is much more akin to an homage to Frances Reid, than just having all the familiar faces show up for one day in a room for a funeral or memorial, and then be gone again.
I know many of us had expressed a wish for Days to pay tribute to Ms. Reid before she passed, but I think this sort of thing might have been weird had we known the actress was still with us.
Seeing the emotion in the actors’ faces – you know that’s real. They all worked with Ms. Reid, so I’m sure their grief is real, and being channeled into their characters. In a way I think it’s good therapy – for the actors, as well as for the fans.
I’m often critical, but I have to say, this time I think it’s well done, and I’m enjoying what I’ve seen so far, and look forward to more.
It will be a shame when it’s all said and done, and all the characters leave and return to their lives outside Salem. I kind of wish some of them would stick around….

June 16, 2010 at 3:50 pm #13697BonbonParticipantshe was glad to have her mom and dad there or nobody would have the slightest idea who that was with Laura, well, unless you read spoilers that is. In fact, can you imagine someone who has only started watching in the last 10 years or so and doesn’t read the boards and the door opens to those two? They’d probably still be sitting there scratching their heads.

I can see Laura not wanting to run into Kate, and how inappropriate it may have been for Kate to show up there, but if she and Bill aren’t together, what right does she have to get upset at Bill?
