The "DAYS" of big pay offs….
When the Susan thing was revealed – we got a WHOLE WEEK of it. When Sami was exposed (all those times) we got a WHOLE WEEK OF IT!!!
When Gina was revealed to be Hope after all – we got a WHOLE week of it.
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again – James Reilly delivered when it came to sh*t hitting the fan. Yes, we had to live through ENDLESS flashbacks and fantasy’s. I know some of you didn’t like his writing – but you gotta admit he knew how to deliver a payoff.
We won’t get that with Kristen this time around nor will we get it with Chloe. But I sure am hoping we get it with Nick.
April 9, 2013 at 8:10 am #39131BonbonParticipantthrough a whole week of that crap. No, JER was probably the worst writer Days ever suffered through. His stories drug on interminably as well as the pay-offs.
April 9, 2013 at 10:32 am #39133KseeParticipantand the pay offs were never big enough! they would get a little slap on the wrist or a few words
April 9, 2013 at 12:24 pm #39134TFlo1018ParticipantHe was one of my faves (if not my main fave.) Is Gina Hope?!? Susan/Kristen/Thomas/Penelope/Mary Moira?! Lady in White/Aremid/Maison Blainche?!? Sami’s reign of terror?!? Marlena/Devil?!?
He brought a supernatural element to the show (yes a little too much sometimes) but it was certainly different, and needed as DOOL was suffering in ratings and storytelling at that point. Let’s not forget how EPIC Carly buried alive was… CMON!!!
When s*it his the fan we got a great week of it – why would you not wanna watch? When Kate would expose Sami we got a WHOLE WEEK OF THE SCHEME coming out. Those were classic.
I guess we’ll agree to disagree on JER huh lol
April 9, 2013 at 12:52 pm #39135caseyParticipantNo satsifying reward for the endless SLs. At least if I knew the baddies were going to get a big dramatic “die by the sword” payoff that would be sometbhing to anticipate.
April 9, 2013 at 1:02 pm #39136mommytutuParticipantI hated JER. I remember his second run all too well. Killing of every loved character, tearing apart John and Marlena and making Marlena pregnant, the space twins, the whole fiasco with the lowest ratings ever. It was so bad it was funny.
April 9, 2013 at 1:18 pm #39138MKParticipantI too miss the days of the big pay-offs. I don’t care much if we get a big one with Nick but I would LOVE to see a huge one with Chloe. Since we had to suffer through this not only ridiulous, but overly long storyline, I, for one, would love to see a week or so of Chloe getting what’s coming to her. I know others will probably disagree, and just want her to go away quickly, but I would enjoy seeing this as my reward for putting up with this crap.
April 9, 2013 at 5:00 pm #39145BonbonParticipantbecause that was the intent of the show from the beginning, written with tongue firmly planted in cheek and reality something to be ignored. But with Days, he took a beloved, long-lived, typical soap opera and ruined it. I couldn’t wait for them to can him. Sorry.
April 9, 2013 at 6:50 pm #39151Carol JParticipantJER belonged with Passions. He ruined many of our beloved characters on DOOL. The sci-fi story lines didn’t belong on Days.
April 9, 2013 at 11:01 pm #39158PattiParticipantor from one sweeps to the next, or in some cases like a baby s/l, 2 sweeps, but never beyond 3. More importantly, it should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and then move on. Some of JER’s s/l’s went on forever, like this Dannifer one. It makes me lose interest and eventually turns me against character I once loved.
April 10, 2013 at 1:03 am #39161TFlo1018ParticipantDOOL was mildy boring when he took over, consistently losing it’s time slot and really had nothing going on. Prior to him the last interesting SL was "Cruise of Deception."
He was a ratings grabber and his first go round as head writer didn’t fail NBC. He boosted the ratings and they stood there. People claimed to have hated Marlena/Devil story but the ratings sky rocketed AND STOOD there. They stood there all the way until he left.
I agree his writing the second go around wasn’t as good – but no soap scribe should pen two shows. And yes, his stories did drag on forever but in my opinion they paid off. We will never see anyone get their just desserts anymore. It just doesn’t happen
