Another fabulous show! James was amazing as usual. So was Scotty. It’s going to be those 2 in the finale. i think it’s close between Haley and Lauren. Haley’s first song she sang it ok i just didnt like the song. i thought the judges were alittle hard on her though. i felt sorry for her. but she sure came back on her second song! Got another standing O. she did the same thing as last week, bombed the 1st song, came back and killed the 2nd. i do think she beat Lauren tonight though. Lauren’s 2nd song was cute. but Haley’s was WOW. i dont know, i think Haley might be in the top 3. i voted for her, Scotty and James. I cant believe it’s alreay down to the final 3!!
May 12, 2011 at 12:28 pm #23606bluebonnetParticipantwith my wish for the final three. I feel like the judges are too harsh on Haley and then go easy on the others even when it isn’t necessarily warranted.
May 12, 2011 at 12:48 pm #23607caseyParticipantShe’s okay, never seen that a wow factor with her. With the right material and cutting down that growl/screaming Hayley has a good voice. She proved it on the second song.
Scotty’s second song was fun, but I agree w/Jen, he’s got to bring more intense songs to show off his skills.
James good as usual – it’s his to lose IMO.
Lady Gaga wants to turn everyone into her style so she didn’t add much for me. That get up/makeup she had on only points out she’s not an attractive woman.May 12, 2011 at 3:20 pm #23616PattiParticipantFirst of all, I loved all of the inspirational songs. The whole concept was terrific, and everyone picked a good song that inspired them and the audience, IMO. I loved Lauren’s rendition of Martina McBride’s "Anyway", relating it to the victims of the recent tornadoes in Alabama. Very fitting lyrics for the concept of the message. However, I hated her Elvis Presley rendition of "Trouble". I also thought her practically refusing to say she was "evil", which was probably 50% of the song’s lyrics, was just an indication of how much of an insecure, pure child she is, and that’s not gonna’ get her the win. Her attempt at showing she could be a "sultry songbird" didn’t do it for me, and I thought she was all over the place with it; from sashaying up to the on-stage musicians, to hopping all over the place, just left me with the opinion, "honey, stick to country."
Scotty, you’re adorable, but again, "stick to country." His rendition of the Alan Jackson epic regarding 9/11, "Where were you When the World Stopped Turning" brought tears to my eyes. However, his version of the Coasters "Young Blood" was not good, and I never thought I’d be critical of him. The song was too fast, and he didn’t reach the notes he should have reached. Again, first song wins.
James, the magnificent, once again you stole the show. Nothing says inspiration better than Steve Perry and Journey’s "Don’t Stop Believing," and you stopped the show with that one. "Love Potion No. 9" was from my generation, and you nailed that as well. Jennifer is right, there’s NOTHING you can’t sing.
Here’s my gripe. I thought the judges were unfair all around with Haley last night. Her first song was indeed inspirational enough, "Earth Song," by Michael Jackson, and she did not do a bad job with it. Only thing is, no one, not even someone with talent far beyond yours, sweetheart, should ever attempt a Michael Jackson song. They never go over with the judges, and there is just no one who can make it their own, or make it better, although you gave a good attempt. I thought Randy was harsh and I thought Jennifer was a little bit contradictory last night where Haley was concerned. Haley, on the other hand, was too defensive. When she said her range was much higher
no, it isn’t
you have to scream to reach some of the notes you do, and that’s not the way to nail those notes. Lauren has a much higher range than Haley. The second song choice, "I Who Have Nothing" was better, but not great IMO. Here’s the thing though. Randy was cruel for saying the first round was a tie between James, Scotty and Lauren, and saying nothing about Haley. That was out and out mean. Then they over-complimented her to make up for it in the second round. Just too damn obvious they were excusing themselves, and that may have cost her tonight. Steven was the most sincere last night. Finally, Lady GaGa is a mess.May 12, 2011 at 4:13 pm #23618caseyParticipanthad an attitude last night. When the judges criticize you, whether fair or not, act humble and keep your mouth shut. It could cost you.
May 12, 2011 at 5:35 pm #23620NoraParticipantI agree, but I dont really blame her for having an attitude. esp with Randy. and esp after assigning the rounds to the other 3. that was just mean. Everyone had one good song and one so so song. I really think that Haley beat Lauren last night. and i hope she’s in the final 3, i voted for her and not Lauren last night.
May 12, 2011 at 6:26 pm #23627DeeLanParticipantRandy and Jennifer were too critical of Haley and Randy was just mean. It’s like he’s trying to take Simon’s place and failng. Steven tried to soften it a bit by telling her not to listen to them. The standing ovation they gave her was too too obvious. Don and I have a theory that they want the other’s in the top 3 and were throwing Haley under the bus to try to sway the votes. They’ve done it before with all the pimping they did with Adam lambert and Kara went as far as to call him a "rock god". The problem is the voters dont’ like that and it has backfired on them in the past, again think Adam Lambert.
May 12, 2011 at 9:57 pm #23640caseyParticipantnot getting this “mean” thing with Randy. I didn’t see anything mean-spirited about what I saw as the truth. Haley screaming that same line over and over at the end of the song. I did like the first part of it, but Randy has warned Haley previously about too much growling and screeching. Right or wrongly, if you take on the music icons and don’t live up to it, you’re setting yourself up for a rough judging.
Now if Randy and Jen want Haley to be gone, I have no real idea. I do think Haley could have defended herself a shade more respectfully.May 12, 2011 at 10:01 pm #23642DeeLanParticipantI’m not saying Haley was right in her reaction. You could see her disgust all over her face and in her tone when she did speak. She needs to be a bit more respectful of the judges and those that are giving her this break but I Randy did come across as mean in what he said. Yes, he was right but the way he and Jennifer kept hammering at it was a bit too much. Say it once and get over it. When Steven tried to speak and say she was good Randy kept interrupting and repeating how much he hated it.
May 12, 2011 at 10:04 pm #23643PattiParticipantwhen Ryan asked him who he thought won the first round, and he followed it with " for me, it was a tie between Scotty, Lauren and James," with no follow-up, leaving Haley standing there like she was invisible? It may not have been intentional and leaned more toward his disapproval of her song choice, but to me it was disrespectful to Haley, who is, after all, in the final four. So, yeah, I thought it was a bit on the mean side.
May 13, 2011 at 1:28 am #23651caseyParticipantanswered who won the first round and said it was a tie among the three, why was it being “mean” to exclude Haley? Obviously he thought her first performance was not up to the others. It did not strike me as anything more than that. Sure, it might have been uncomfortable for her, but this is on the road to the record biz, which is not warm and fuzzy.
