Taylor to me was an entertainer and there are those that really like his type of music. He was cut by his record company and all his recordings now are by his own company. He does shows and draws a crowd and he’s doing what he wanted to do.
Don and I were talking about the past idol contestants last night. Except for Carrie who’s won awards we don’t hear too much from the other winners but the ones that came in 2nd, 3rd and 4th seem to be doing better and that might be due to the fact they aren’t tied to idol as long and can start to focus on their careers the way they want. Idol is what these contestants need which is to get out there and get noticed but I think losing is better in the long run and the good ones don’t need to win to make it big. Look at Jennifer Hudson and Daughtry.
April 8, 2011 at 9:38 pm #2257153tdogsParticipantsingers talent this year except for Scotty, Pia had it all – the looks for the album covers, and she can sing, but I don’t think pop music is her genre. I think she would be good in Broadway or Lost Wages (Las Vegas) also, after a couple of CD’s.
Jacob is good in a church choir but nahhhhhhh not liking him at all after his holier-than-the-rest-of-us speech….he’s trying to break into the music field, he shouldn’t be so snooty and arrogant to potential purchasers of CD’s (or is it MP3 downloads today)…not even Mick Jagger after 40 years of pure jadedness (it’s just a job, not fun anymore) is that snooty to his fans. Jacob has been living and listening to his own little "snap-snap" world and believes it. He won’t win.
April 8, 2011 at 9:49 pm #2257253tdogsParticipantjudges part, a lot of it is hype…most of it. That’s why I can FF’d through 90% of the show and rely on Nora to let me know the play by play details…I still think the show is one long Coke and Ford commercial, not a true singing competition. Besides, James Newell Osterberg, Jr i.e., Iggy Pop was doing the same routine 40 years ago, why was he on stage? Why is a 64 year old still "exposing" himself on t.v. like that…he’s always been a no-talent hack. Guess AI had to fill the air time to get a sixty minute show somehow…otherwise the results show would be ten minutes at most…
April 8, 2011 at 10:20 pm #22581caseyParticipantthis guy like 60 years old trying to act like he’s 20.
April 8, 2011 at 10:40 pm #2258553tdogsParticipant20 either…and I don’t wanna watch 20 year olds half undressed and acting spastic on t.v. either…AI is watched by (and most of the votes come from) little 14, 15, 16 year old girls – why would AI feel the need to put this old codger half naked skinny guy who used to expose himself on stage, (arrested several times), on t.v. in front of their core audience?
April 8, 2011 at 10:46 pm #22587DeeLanParticipantThe only reason they got Iggy Pop is becuase they can’t get anyone current on the show. They either have pop singers who are releasing albums and need to promote or they’re has beens (Iggy Pop, Peter Noone, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow..etc) or past Idol contestants but their either trying to resurrect a career or trying to sell an album.
April 8, 2011 at 11:03 pm #2258953tdogsParticipantBarry Manalow – at least they really had some kind of career to resurrect than this "Pop" character…
April 9, 2011 at 12:07 am #22591NoraParticipantI didnt watch him, i turned back intime to send the end of his "preformance" but I thought it was disgusting, it looked like he was flirting with Jennifer, which I felt sorry for her! Gross! i had no idea who it was. i usually change the channel when they have those bad or no name singers on, usually the horrible rappers. they could cut it back to a half hour if they got rid of those singers. I wouldnt mind it if they had good ones on, or heck even the past Idol contestants, I enjoyed Constintine.

April 9, 2011 at 1:44 am #22594DeeLanParticipantThat’s one of our main complaints is the entertainment they have. We usually find something else to do when they’re performing. I too enjoyed when Peter Noone was on though as it brought back memories of Herman’s Hermits.
Don was questioning what Will-I-Am could contribute to a singing competition since his music both singularly and with Black Eyed Peas is all techno and computerized.
April 9, 2011 at 2:47 am #2259753tdogsParticipantI know they did super bowl, but I don’t listen to todays music – I’m old – oh my gosh, I’ve turned into my mother
"those darn Beatles and their shaggy hair!" But seriously, I really believe, that Elvis, the Beatles, the Stones, after 40 years – remain and still sell because they had classic great music…in forty years who will actually know "Will-I-Am" and the "Black-Eyed-Peas" – I’ll put money in a trust fund (in forty years) for someone who wants that bet !
April 9, 2011 at 2:00 pm #22609DeeLanParticipantMy husband is into Classic Rock wiht the ones you mentioned as well as a few others. I didn’t really know who Steven Tyler was until Don and I got married, heck I didn’t listen to Aerosmith or at least wasn’t aware I was. If I heard a song and liked it that’s all I knew. I only know who the Blackeyed Peas are from the Super Bowl and didn’t like their music. I had no idea who Will-I-Am was until he performed with Jaimie Fox and didn’t like him. It was my husband that told me he was the Blackeyed Peas, not that he listens to them or him but he’s more up on what’s happening in rock and can’t stand the music they call rock today.
I was more the bubble gum music when I was growing up. Bobby Sherman, Herman’s Hermits, Donny Osmond……..
April 9, 2011 at 2:03 pm #22610PattiParticipantthe producers of AI would do that? He is not entertainment — he’s a dried up, burned out, numb-nut who can’t sing a note and is embarrassing to boot. I would rather them have no talent on or fill the gap with the idols themselves singing together on-stage than someone like that jerk. Please, Nigel, what were you thinking?
April 9, 2011 at 8:09 pm #2262053tdogsParticipantday…I have tons of CD’s (even a few Aerosmith left over from days with my ex), but here’s a trip down memory lane that cannot be beat by today’s American Idols by any means: Creedance Clearwater, the Doobies, REO Speedwagon, Herman’s Hermits, the Kinks, Clapton, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, the Troggs, the Hollies, Jefferson Airplane (before they were Starship), Janis, Jimmy, Procal Harum, Steppenwolf, the Zombies, the Beach Boys, and the list goes on forever – I haven’t even mention a ton of them…for those of you too young to have heard this kind of music – Go – educate yourself on great music!

And WHY is it I can remember every single line to all of these songs from eons ago??? But I cannot remember where I put my car keys…
April 9, 2011 at 9:37 pm #22625caseyParticipantgot a record deal. That was quick.
