August 8, 2014 at 2:12 pm #5375PattiParticipant
with our Baltimore Orioles in first place in their division, 5 games up over both the Blue Jays and the Yankees …. then with a superb win (even though it’s pre-season) in the Harbaugh Bowl III last night, with John beating little brother Jim for the third time with the Baltimore Ravens securing the win over the 49ers, 23-6, what’s not to be happy about for this Charm City girl so far this season???
August 17, 2014 at 1:48 pm #44986PattiParticipantbeating Dallas last night 37-30. Can’t be real excited with our defense yet, especially 2nd and 3rd string, but lots of new young guys fighting for jobs. Still whacko for Flacco, even if he did not complete his first 3 or 4 passes in a row, but once he found his niche and settled down, he looked b-e-a-u-tiful. All in all, I’m looking forward to another successful year for the Ravens.
Orioles lost to Cleveland last night, but still in first place in their division, and still 6 1/2 over Toronto and 7 over Yankees, so I’m not worried about the playoffs…..yet!!! So far they are still the “Beasts of the East” and I’m loving our chances to go all the way this season.
Sorry posters…..my sport rant over!!!
August 18, 2014 at 12:30 pm #44990caseyParticipantto have successful sports teams! At least looks like my Bills have improved their roster and look forward to seeing what appears to be a superior receiver in 1st round pick Sammy Watson. If the QB can get the ball to him could make for an interesting season.
August 18, 2014 at 6:41 pm #44991PattiParticipantabout your Bills, casey, especially with the rumor that Jim Kelly and Bon Jovi are now looking at a ‘partnership’ to acquire the team. I hope that pans out for you, really, since at least you know the team would then stay in Buffalo. At least that’s what they claim, so good luck!!!
August 18, 2014 at 10:26 pm #44992caseyParticipantbut Kelly has no intention of hooking up with any group that could move the team – in this case to Toronto. There have been documents showing Bon Jovi’s team would indeed relocate the Bills and Jon himself has not definitively assured it would not happen. The best bet and one I hope works out is Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pagula. He would never move the team and has put in the best bid and Buffalonians love him. We’ll know this fall but I would be shocked if the Bon Jovi team wins out. The Bills are sewn into the western NY fabric and the late owner Ralph Wilson never wanted them anywhere else.
August 19, 2014 at 12:53 pm #44999PattiParticipantthanks for clearing that up. I certainly agree with you though, it’s a heartbreak to lose a team you love and have invested your heart and soul into only to have them be taken away from you (like our Baltimore Colts and Cleveland’s Browns, which, of course, are now our Baltimore Ravens). I know Kelly would never be in agreement with moving the Bills. Good luck to you and to Buffalo!
August 22, 2014 at 1:11 am #45020caseyParticipantgreat news that initial scans indicate Jim is cancer free. He does however have to get a biopsy to get a definitive result. I’m keeping him and all who are battling this ultimate villain in my prayers.
August 22, 2014 at 2:35 am #45027PattiParticipantI watched the special they had on Kelly and his family recently, and the trials and tribulations they have had to go through, not only with Jim but with their young son as well. It’s about time they got something to be optimistic about. I wish Jim and his family all the best and sincerely hope his health continues to improve, and keeping my fingers crossed he is successful in acquiring the Bills and keeping them in Buffalo.
August 24, 2014 at 8:55 pm #45081PattiParticipantOnce again the Ravens win in pre-season last night by defeating the Washington Redskins 23-17. R.G.III struggled, but Cousins brought them back nicely. One more pre-season game to go, and then it’s all for real after that, and I’m hoping the Ravens can continue with their winning streak. Even with all of the new young players we have this season, the Ravens seem to be working well together. Hard for me to decide who should go after this first cut; everyone looks that darn good!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for another successful run for the trophy this year.
Orioles facing hard times with the Cubs, even after sweeping the White Sox. Looks like we need to get the heck out of Chicago. LOL!
August 24, 2014 at 10:28 pm #45082caseyParticipantAfter that intial super rookie season, last year he notably stumbled, albeit he did have some injuries. And he didn’t handle the criticism particularly well. But can he revert to that freshman form? I hope so because he is so talented and fun to watch.
August 29, 2014 at 1:32 pm #45113PattiParticipantwith the Orioles taking 3 out of 4 from Tampa Bay and the Ravens defeating New Orleans last night resulting in an undefeated pre-season, yep, I’m hyped. Loving the fact that the ONLY first-stringer to play for the Ravens last night was Justin Tucker, who was perfect on the night, scoring 5 for 5 field goal attempts. The young man is simply awesome! Ozzie and Harbaugh, along with the other coaches, are sure going to have a tough time making final cuts to get the team down to 53; they’re all just that darn good. O’s may not have the best starting pitchers in all of baseball, but they sure do have the best bullpen. I’m so proud of BOTH our teams, I just can’t help bragging about them. Hoping the “best” is yet to come!!!
August 29, 2014 at 4:23 pm #45114caseyParticipantlive vicariously through you! My Bills were a cringing 1-4 preseason with the offense looking anemic. Not a point last night. And dumb head coach decides to play budding star receiver Sammy Watkins after he suffered a rib injury a couple weeks ago. So what happens? You guessed it – Sammy injured the ribs again! And for what – a series or two in a preseason game? Coach better stop making those bonehead moves because new ownership is on the doorstep.
Hey, maybe the odds alone will help my boys for the real thing in Chicago next weekend.
I bet you’re having a blast with two competing teams!August 29, 2014 at 8:33 pm #45115PattiParticipantmost teams don’t even use any of their starters let alone star prospects in the last game of pre-season. It’s mostly played to decide who stays and who goes and who’s showing promise, so that is a surprise that Sammy even played with an injury, especially since the pre-season game wins have no bearing on standings. Anyway, much luck to you casey. I always enjoy chatting football with you. By the way, did the Bills at least come away with one pre-season win, or did you mean 0-4 or 1-3 for them? I know the Cowboys and the Colts both came away with a 0-4 pre-season result. NOW, we’re officially off to the races!!!
August 29, 2014 at 10:12 pm #45116caseyParticipanton Sammy – he should be set to go in the opener. The Bills had an extra game because they played the Hall of Fame game. So 1-4.
August 29, 2014 at 11:17 pm #45117PattiParticipantglad to hear the good news regarding Sammy Watkins. I forgot about the Hall of Fame game. I know you’re as psyched as I am to get this party started. Good Luck!!!
