So now that we know Mel is Carly’s kid (if we can believe that) how does everyone think this will play out?
How long will Viv go on thinking it’s Mia and how will that impact on the story?
Mel already considers Maggie her sub mom, so I doubt we’ll be seeing any Carly/Mel bond anytime soon.
And then there’s the real dad angle. If it turns out to be Doc Dan, I’m sure that will be a split between him and Chole which Vic will want to encourage.January 15, 2010 at 3:46 pm #9677mommytutuParticipantI think the more interesting twist is that once Viv realizes it’s Melanie and not Mia, she will have to reconsider all of her plans. She wants to be in Phillip’s good graces and that would be impossible to do if she’s out trying to kill Melanie. I hope that if Dr. Dan does turn out to be the daddy, that it doesn’t split him and Chloe. They wouldn’t be the first couple to deal with a child from another relationship, so the writers better not muck up that relationship. And although Victor doesn’t like Carly, he cares a lot for Phillip and for Daniel. I don’t know that he would want to jeopardize his relationship with either of them.
Does Carly know for sure that Melanie is her daughter or does she just suspect it? That could be a twist, then what if it really is Mia? Too many questions hanging in the air here.
January 15, 2010 at 3:54 pm #9678spoiledParticipantIsn’t Daniel a little young to be Melanie’s father? Carly’s affair was supposed to be with another Dr., right? Let’s say Daniel is, at the most 38 or 39 (although I suppose he could be in his early 40s). That puts him at around 19 or 20 when he supposedly fathered Melanie. It takes, what, 8 years to get a medical license (4 years of college & 4 years of med school)? The way they stretch ages on this show, I suppose it’s slightly believable if he’s considered to be in his early to mid 40s, but it still seems slightly more believable to me for Mia to be his daughter.
But geez, I can’t stand to watch Mia on screen. She’s as dull as dishwater and could use an acting workshop asap.
January 15, 2010 at 4:18 pm #9680JohnnyboyParticipantJust based on what we are seeing, or how it is perceived, Vivian will likely try and kill Mia to get back at Carly, thinking that is the real daughter. But it seems Melanie is the real daughter. Somehow, you can see Carly coming to the rescue of Mia and it might put her in Melanie’s good graces.
The new batch of Days’ writers don’t have the same inventive spirit for plots as the ones from the heyday of the show. Too much predictability and the imagination quotient has gone out the window. It will make it interesting when it comes out that Dan is the father. It would not have surprised me if the writers had stuck Bo with another child, but thankfully they did not go for the obvious plot wrecker.
January 15, 2010 at 4:31 pm #9681DCola522ParticipantI don’t think it will break up Daniel & Chloe if it comes out that he is the father. He obviously has no idea that he fathered a child, so how could Chloe hold that against him? Sure it’ll cause some issues, but there’s no reason it should be a deal-breaker. Unless Daniel starts to get closer with Carly because of it (dear God no)… THEN it will be a problem.
January 15, 2010 at 6:21 pm #968653tdogsParticipantHow close are M&M in age? Within a year and a half it seems? When Mel first came on the scene – she was hanging around in a disco bar, Cheatin’ Heart and such – granted being raised in Europe, their drinking age is 18… So it seemed then she was just a bit older…then but then if the writer’s came up with this idea after the fact and decided to make her a bit younger for the story line – she’d be closer to Mia’s age. If Carly hadn’t seen her child since birth (or a little after), like several have said, perhaps Carly is only guessing herself. I got the feeling that the writer’s are just letting us twist and they are going to let who’s her daughter play out for a bit longer and then they’ll play who’s the daddy for awhile.
January 15, 2010 at 6:36 pm #9687GrockieParticipantWant Carly to be gone, disappear, vamoose.
January 15, 2010 at 7:14 pm #9690zsuzsaParticipantI don’t think that Dan having a child in and of itself would bother Chloe, but I think it will be difficult for her as she starts to want children and deals with infertility. I think she will struggle with jealousy and feeling left out of his life. It will be very interesting when Viv finds out it’s Mel and not Mia. But then, she will probably have invested a lot of time in trying to bond with Mel to get closer to Philip. She can’t very well kill the love of Philip’s life. Of course, if she drops him for Nathan, she’ll be fair game to Viv! Victor will also try to stop her, since he considers Dan to be a son, so he will consider Melanie family.
January 15, 2010 at 8:40 pm #9695GoodyParticipantGrockie, I am in total agreement. Away with Carly! The sooner the better.
Goody
January 15, 2010 at 9:22 pm #9696PattiParticipantbecause right now it could go either way, depending on this writing staff, and I must admit that I don’t have much confidence in these sls that go on forever. It will make more sense if they make it Melanie, because then they could drag it on forever because of the fast change of heart that undoubtedly Victor and Vivian would take, knowing they were trying to kill Phillip’s fiance. Anyway, my thought is that they won’t be ending this anytime soon; at least not before the "wedding" next month. Sooooooo, my guess is that someone will try and stop the wedding, and my ultimate speculation is that that person will be none other than……Lawrence Alamain…..so there, I’ve said it; from my lips to the writers’ ears; (lol) anyway, that’s my guess. I have never believed for one minute that Lawrence is dead and this "who’s the daughter" storyline, for me, is no better than a ‘who’s the daddy/mommy’ or the baby switch sl for that matter. Now Lawrence showing up just when everyone thinks things might be calming down will, I hope, explode into the real sl behind the return of Dr. Carly Manning AND Vivian Alamain.
January 15, 2010 at 9:27 pm #9698BonbonParticipantWhy is everybody talking about Dan being Mel’s father. First, I though there weren’t supposed to be spoilers here. Second, I haven’t heard anything at all about him even being a possibility. What gives?
January 15, 2010 at 9:32 pm #9700BonbonParticipantI think it would be a great storyline if Viv continues to believe Mia is Carly’s daughter and goes after her with guns ablazing. They could likely take it so far that she even kills Mia. After all, Mia isn’t that big of a character to the show that she couldn’t be sacraficed.
Then, after the deed, Vivian and Victor find out their mistake. Then there could be some real disasterous effects. The way these writers carry things on ad infinitum, I don’t believe we’re going to see any earth shattering events for a while anyway.
And did anybody else find that conversation between Carly and Mel today somewhat unbelievable?
January 15, 2010 at 9:38 pm #9703PattiParticipantbecause Dan is the colleague Carly knew from their early years, and she introduced him to his wife, Rebecca. I don’t think anyone said this was a spoiler.
January 15, 2010 at 10:39 pm #9707caseyParticipantthe wedge between Dan and Chloe – her inability to have kids while Dan does. I think Dan is a logical educated guess as the dad because A) Carly mentioned he was a doc and they knew each other back in the day.
January 16, 2010 at 12:08 am #9709mommytutuParticipantI hope it is all speculation. I have not seen one spoiler that confirms who the mystery dad is. For all we know, the daddy is Trent. That would certainly make life easier for all concerned.
