The talent on that show is incredible – and what the choreographers come up with is as good as anything you’ll see.
November 5, 2010 at 12:04 am #1773653tdogsParticipantI loved Fred and Ginger!
November 5, 2010 at 1:11 pm #17753BonbonParticipantThey get paid on the same sliding scale but it didn’t say in the article what it was. I think the stars’ living expenses ARE paid for. The show also flys them around (back home…like Kate Gosslin; every week!) and to make public appearances to help promote the show. Whatever they are doing is successful because the show is consistently the number one in its slot.
I think dancers are very much like professional musicians, especially the classical ones. They cannot exist on their performance income and most of them earn a living teaching also. It’s too bad because, as you say, they train every bit as hard as these athletes that make millions. I applaud DWTS for bringing them into the spotlight. I always enjoyed watching ballroom dancing on PBS.
I wonder now if Skating With the Stars will be as successful. Somehow I doubt it. From the people I see that will appear in the first show, I don’t know any of them so how can I root for them?
November 5, 2010 at 1:15 pm #17755caseyParticipantFlawless, exquisite, a joy to watch.

November 7, 2010 at 11:40 pm #17882luckeyParticipantit didn’t get very good ratings. I recall Todd Bridges was one of the stars, but it was not fun to watch…at least for me. I figured they would never repeat it, but maybe they thought it had been enough years ago that everyone has forgotten it and it might be more successful again.
November 8, 2010 at 1:28 am #1788753tdogsParticipantI wish that they would come up with something original and fresh. It seems that if once a network hits on a success they have to duplicate and triplicate the format and every other network follows suit, i.e., the singing, dancing, law, police, comedy shows all morph into "The Dancing Lawers" and The Police Sing a Song Show"…I know the Star Trek show in the sixties was taken from a cowboy western good guy vs. bad guy premise.
I think the last thing on t.v. that was different was Lassie and Gilligan’s Island. Oh wait, Lassie was lifted from Rin-Tin-Tin and Gillian’s Island a remake of Robinson Crusoe. I just saw Avatar on HBO last night for the first time, I must be getting very old…that’s two and a half hours I’ll never get back, (and yes, I know I’m going against billions of earned dollars at the box office that says I’m incorrect – I will say one nice thing about the predictable movie – it had OK animation). Sigourne Weaver needs to do something else with her career instead of constantly doing remakes of Alien – we are all screaming in space and we can hear!
Has anyone noticed how it seems like were watching the same story line over and over again only with different actors? who also seem to stick to signature roles? It’s like a total loss of originality in the last decade, its always repeats, even clothing styles are repeated, We are living in a rerun!!!!!!!!!
Hollywood has lost its originality and creativity? How many more sequals, (and prequals) are they going to dish out on us? How many movies do we have to endure that are made from tv shows or comic book heros? PLEASE, NO MORE SPOOF MOVIES! I saw this trend pop up years ago, but few people agreed with me. This is part of the reason why I stopped going to the movies. They stink!November 8, 2010 at 12:10 pm #17893BonbonParticipantI have to say that Avatar is a movie best seen on the big screen. That was one of my top 10 movies, but then, I’m a real sucker for science fiction/fantasy movies. I thought the imagination that went into it was incredible and James Cameron is a very talented man. Case in point…when they were walking at night and the ground lit up under each step. Have lost your childhood imagination? I am anxious for the sequel to come out.
As far as everything being a knock-off of something previous, they say there are only twelve original plots to fiction and everything new is just a different spin on one of those. Could be.
Kelly Ripa is coming out with a new show about people who have inventions they want to get off the ground. Yes, that’s the same premise as Shark Tank (which I really enjoyed) but without the snarky investors. I think that will be interesting.
November 8, 2010 at 1:46 pm #17894caseyParticipantMicheal Jackson’s Billie Jean video where the pavement steps lit up with his every step. Wonder if Cameron was thinking of that?
November 9, 2010 at 2:32 pm #17928PattiParticipantEveryone (even Bristol) looked terrific last night. Kyle is very popular, so elimination would probably have been decided between Bristol and Kurt. I personally think Kurt is a stronger dancer, but he won’t make it much further if he’s saved tonight. I still think Bristol should go, but she’s gaining her own popularity now and not riding as far on mom’s coattails. Can’t believe how beautifully Jennifer came through after dealing with so much pain. I adore Maks and hope he and Brandy make it to finals, but they both get a little carried away with critical comments …. Maks with the judges’ and Brandy with Maks’. Still, they have beautiful chemistry on the floor. Love you Kurt, hope you make it tonight.
November 9, 2010 at 2:54 pm #17933luckeyParticipantand see what all the hype is about. I’m not a sci-fi fan by any stretch of the imagination; but, if it’s a good story with good acting, I’ll watch. Having said that, this movie does not fall in the category for me. I watched it in two shifts due to the length. The creativity was incredible, but that’s all that kept me watching.
November 9, 2010 at 3:11 pm #17934luckeyParticipantfavorites! I could do without the Maks/Brandi drama, but I’m sure that’s encouraged to keep the viewers interested. I’m also sure that Jennifer’s aches and pains are real, but they could do without the over emphasis every week. Good grief! Florence had to have had her own difficulties, but she didn’t make such a big deal like Jennifer does. Bristol is very lucky that she has such a large voting base that kept her on long enough for her to improve as much as she has. I think most of us agree that she should have been gone very early in the competition. So, it will probably be Kurt who goes home tonight; but, I hope it’s Bristol.
November 9, 2010 at 5:49 pm #17942BonbonParticipantthat he has the guts to speak out against the perceived, or otherwise, criticism they get from the judges. I agree with him that Carrie Ann can go a little overboard sometimes, especially with her cursed "lifts"… she is so obsessed with them. But I just hope that his remarks don’t go against him.
The whole season I was certain that Jennifer would win but now I’m not so sure. I’m more leaning toward Brandy and Maks now, and I’d really like to see them win.
And as much as I have been rooting for Bristol, it IS time for her to go, however, I don’t think in the dancing ability she is any worse than Kurt. Kurt shows more personality in his dancing but I don’t think his ability is all that great. If Bristol could just loosen up a little and feel more relaxed and comfortable, I think her scores would be higher.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens tonight. I’m afraid it’ll be Bristol but it’s at the point now where it has to be one of them and it could very well be Bristol, Kurt or Kyle, neither of which would be a surprise.
