Well our new American idol is Phillip Pillips! I’m kina disappointed, I was still hoping that Jessica would have won, but she surely won’t have any trouble getting a record deal or be on one of those nick at nite shows. I read online that Phillip is supposed to go intothe hospital because of his kidney troubles, I hope he’s ok. But congratulations to both of them!!!!!
May 24, 2012 at 11:32 am #33213BonbonParticipantWhen I was a teen I knew a William Williams, although he went by the nickname of Bunker. Why do parents do that to their kids?
May 24, 2012 at 12:05 pm #33215bluebonnetParticipantso emotional at the end. We didn’t see much emotion from him throughout the competition except when he went home and then again last night when he won. I thought it was very endearing how close he seems to be with his parents/family. I think he will go far with his music. He is one of those whose voice isn’t great, but is distinctive, and of course he is loaded with style!
May 24, 2012 at 12:19 pm #33217caseyParticipantfor me because AI isn’t just about a stellar voice. If that were the case at least half the “artists” around these days wouldn’t get a foot in the door of a recording studio. He started out as a Dave Matthews clone and improved week by week until I no longer saw a clone, but someone truly unique.
He remained humble which I think the viewers appreciated and from all accounts soldiered himself through a painful illness without complaint or excuse.
I am looking forward to hearing that first single on the radio – job well done Phil!May 24, 2012 at 12:49 pm #33219PattiParticipanthe was very gracious indeed, and I’m going to pray for him to get well so his career can really take off. I liked the way the kids would start out a song and then introduce a recording star to sing a duet with; but, honestly, I thought it was comical when Joshua introduced Fantasia, who is his idol, and not only did I think they sounded alike, but they looked alike as well. They could easily be mistaken for siblings. As for Jessica, she, too, appeared to be a very humble young lady. I don’t know if many 16-year olds could take that loss like she did. She seems like a sweet girl who appeared genuinely happy for Phillip, and who no doubt already has her own shining star. I predict she’s going to be huge. Loved, loved, loved seeing Aerosmith perform, and old hippie or not, Steven Tyler is still an amazing, fantastic performer. I wish him and Aerosmith much success on their 2012 tour.
May 24, 2012 at 1:56 pm #33222bluebonnetParticipantof Ace’s proposal to Diana DeGarmo? I guess performers don’t think it is a big deal, but I would never be brave enough to propose to my girlfriend in front of that many people. I suppose he was sure she would say "yes," but still! Anyway, it is nice to have a first Idol couple.
May 24, 2012 at 3:12 pm #33228caseyParticipantthat duel of the titans she performed w/Jennifer Holiday was insane. Worth the price of admission.
May 24, 2012 at 8:25 pm #33239PattiParticipantbut I was surprised it was with Jennifer Holliday and not Jennifer Hudson, since she performed it in Dream Girls, won the Academy Award for her portrayal, and is a former AI star. Guess she wasn’t available; I’m sure she was asked.
I was just so very happy to see Colton again, too!
May 25, 2012 at 4:04 am #33249DeeLanParticipantI’m wondering if the whole thing was staged. I do think they’re engaged but also sure they talked about it before going on the show last night.
May 25, 2012 at 4:07 am #33250DeeLanParticipantJennifer Holliday was the original Effie in Dreamgirls when it was on Broadway in the early 80’s.
May 25, 2012 at 1:52 pm #33253caseyParticipanthas had eight surgeries related to kidney stones and was headed to the hospital after the show. Talk about a trooper!
May 25, 2012 at 2:13 pm #33255bluebonnetParticipanthad to have a stent put in until his main surgery. Maybe the 8 surgeries were to keep replacing the stent. I’ve read that they are very painful. Probably was the reason he was never in the commercials–he had to limit his activities plus probably didn’t feel well.
May 25, 2012 at 2:44 pm #33258PattiParticipantrelate to, unless they frequent Broadway shows. Jennifer Hudson, being an ex-idol, is more popular because of the film, IMO, plus she won the Academy Award for her role as Effie. Either way, Jennifer Holliday was terrific, but I would have preferred it had been Hudson.
May 25, 2012 at 6:28 pm #33261bluebonnetParticipantI didn’t know that about Jennifer Holliday. Thanks for the info, Deelan.
May 26, 2012 at 1:12 am #33263caseyParticipantto pit old against new.
