Rissoli and Isles—- a Series based on a book series written by Tess Gerritsen. I’ve read this series, and loved it!  It’s alot like the TV show Bones.   Both are women, Rissoli is a detective, and Isles is a pathologist, it’s actually more like that old tv show Crossing Jordan. it was set in boston too.  I’m excited about it, it starts monday, check it out!

Thank God for cable because there certainly isn’t much worth watching on the network channels.  And most of the good stuff on cable is all reruns now, The Dog Whisperer, Cake Boss, Pawn Stars, How It’s Made, Last Chance Highway, Taboo, Toddlers and Tiaras, (yes, I watch that! )…

I’m a lover of shows with quirky characters and so happy that most are finally starting their new season.  Royal Pains on USA, Warehouse 13 and Eureka on SciFi or is it now SyFy.  There’s also a new show called Rookie Blue on ABC that’s not quirky but more of a Greys Anatomy meets Police Force.  I’ve only seen 2 episodes so far and the jury’s still out on it but so far it’s OK.  Lie to Me and The Menatlist are decent in my book.  Then we watch Entourage on HBO which is a bit raunchy but the characters can be funny.  We just started watching Wipeout which to me isn’t that great but fills in a void between other shows.  There are 2 hosts and one of them is too irritating.

We like some of the shows on Food Network;  Ace of Cakes, Good Eats, Unwrapped and Diners Drive-ins and Dives but they show too many reruns during the week I can’t always remember when the show is really on for new episodes.

On HGTV I like Holmes on Homes.  I think I really enjoy seeing how these contractors messed up and the extent Mike has to go to fix it.

Has anybode seen Billy the Exterminator on A&E.  He’s an exterminator in Louisianna and some of the things he’s called to get rid of.  Alagators, Nutura, Beavers, Bats, Snakes then there’s always bees and wasps which his brother who works with him is allergic to.  Also on A&E is Gene Simmons Family Jewels.  Gene is a hoot.

another one that is sort of like that is American Pickers!  You folks back in the south have the best antiques!  I’m still watching Persons Unknown (mystery that is just suppose to be on for the summer and then wrapped up) – good for people like me with short attention spans.

Never saw either one of those.  I do like Antiques Roadshow though.

How about History Detectives.  That’s good where someone has a relec or artifact from history, could be recent or way back and they want to find out if it’s real or the trues story behind it. There’s a few antique appraiser and historians who do the investigating and they take you all over until they have the truth or run out of options to go further.

I used to be the queen of shopaholics (or the very least queen of window shopaholics).  It was an actual hobby for me…like some folks play golf.

At 12:00 noon, my girlfriends and I at work would pile into one of our cars, headed downtown through the lunch traffic, find a parking spot downtown, (that was no easy feat either), where the antique and junk shops were and hit two shops.  We’d buy or not buy and pile back into the car, head thru the drive-thru window at lunch, and back to our desks promptly at 12:30 p.m. (our boss was very unforgiving if we were one second late, even though we were all at our desks working every day a half an hour before the workday started)…but the shopping trips were great!

I miss those shopping trips sometimes being retired now…but I just don’t care to shop anymore – it’s a chore and a pain…and it gets to a point where one has enough stuff and stuff begins to own you instead of you owning the stuff…so no more shopping unless it’s a necessary item, especially after 40 years of buying stuff!  Besides, I don’t like dusting anymore than I have to.

So now, (getting back to my point in the first place), I like those shows that I can vicariously shop with shows like American Pickers, Pawn Store, Antique Roadshow, etc., saves wear and tear on my bod, and my wallet!!!

I’m with you on shopping being a chore and a pain.  I use to be able to hit the malls when they opened and not leave until they closed.  Now if I have to go to a store that’s only in the mall I’ll call and ask what entrance they’re near so I can run in and out.  I much prefer strip malls for that reason.

The last time I went to the mall was a couple of days before my stepdaughter’s wedding in November.  I took her to look for a dress (it was an impromptu wedding with 4 days preparation).  I took the 5 year old granddaughter to get her some shoes then sat in the mall with her dancing around in her new shoes waiting for mom and dad to come back.  Before that I think it had been 4 years since I’d been there and I’ve only been there 4 times in the 7 years I’ve lived here.

our "so-called" mall (stores have closed up so much there and most aren’t worth going there – the quality of merchandise is poor)…When we got a Super-duper Walmart, Sam’s, Lowes and Home Depot – in our small town here – I thought "oh boy, oh boy – I’ve died and gone to shopper’s heaven"…and now I find it’s too friggin’ much trouble to find a parking place, (even going early in the a.m.), park and walk the three mile gigantors, so I go to smaller stores just to get in and out quicker…

I guess the main reason I don’t like shopping is my arthritis.  My back and hips just can’t take the walking.  I do have a handicap card though so I can at least park close (even though with all the ‘old folks’ in Florida, they are mostly taken) that helps a little.

But I say thank God for the internet.  I buy almost EVERYTHING online.  I’ve had people ask me if I didn’t worry about security.  Well, in all the years I’ve been doing it, I’ve NEVER once had any kind of problem whatsoever.  (Watch now…!)

Back to antiques…  My ex MIL and family lived in a small Tennessee town and her home was absolutely filled with the stuff we’re now seeing on TV.  When my FIL died (the last to go), we had to get rid of all that stuff.  Because I lived in Illinois, it was too hard to transport so threw a lot of it away.  Oy!  How I’d love to have it now.  The one thing I really goofed on was an old meat scale with a marble tray for the meat.  I have since seen it on TV at a value of…wait for it…$1,700!!!  WE THREW IT IN THE TRASH!!!

Which reminds me, there was an antique store in a small central California town named, My Mother Had One Of Those.  (The store, not the town.)  How fitting.

I absoutely LOVE foodnetwork!   I watch it all day long, and stop when my hubby gets home because he hates it!   We only had basic cable when we first moved, then when I got sick, he ordered more channels so I’d have foodnetwork!   I love watching Chopped, basically EVERYTHING I’m not too into the Challenges show, or Sandra Lee, or Good Eats. But I pretty much watch everything else.  love The next food network star too! Right now that indian girl is my fav!

My hubby just got me a new mini laptop.  he wrecked my car last week, and i think it’s an (I feel guilty present). I figured it was an early birthday/anniversary present. birthday is next week, july 17and anniversary is in Sept.  it might be totalled but he wants to get rid of it anyway, because I’m not supposed to drive anymore becuase of the medication that I’m on. so that would be one less car payment!

I relate to the antiques stuff too, we auctioned off all my grandmothers and great grandma’s stuff when they died, and we regret selling all of it!

I can tell when you’re feeling better, you really kick butt on Family Feud on FB.  You’re helping me win the $5000 quite often also.

DH is from Kansas City, Missouri and Monday is a new show on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. They’re doing Kansas City BBQ which Don says is the best.  He hates what they call BBQ here in Alabama.  Says it all tastes like Heinz 57 steak sauce.  I never knew until he told me that there’s tomato based and molasis based BBQ sauce.  KC BBQ sauce is molassis based.  It’s not unusual to see him carry a bottle of KC Masterpiece into a BBQ joint when we go there for dinner.

Last time we went out for BBQ was an invite by one of our Senators.  She had all her volunteers and friends join her to watch the primary results.   That bottle of KC Masterpiece made the rounds of most of the patrons there.

I decided to start watching Warehouse 13 and saw the season three opener last night but was kind of lost by the lack of background explanation and who the characters were.  If I keep watching will I finally figure it out or am I too late?

I loved some of the effects they used but thought the ‘comedy’ was kind of lame.  This was the episode where they were looking for the ‘returned’ H.G.Wells and they got stuck on the ceiling.
