I am not happy about this.  It seems ABC is doing all in its power to kill soaps!

and I think it’s because of they are working with cable networks in areas as far as getting signed contracts.  Disney, Jr. will probably get around to my area and my cable network (Comcast) eventually, but for now we’re still showing SoapNet.

We also have Comcast and still have Soapnet in Pennsylvania.

I don’t think you will see piecemeal changes.  The switch will happen all at once as I don’t believe they can air two different stations on the same channel.

SW, what do you have in place of SoapNet?  My guess would be that your company chose to drop it completely rather than switch to another Disney channel.  Apparently Comcast is dropping SoapNet on April 23rd (the only company to do so) but other companies may keep it until their contract with ABC runs out.

this change isn’t going to be a flip of a switch but rather a transition (Disney’s words).  Disney Jr. will be on a different channel from SoapNet and cable companies may choose to add it and keep SoapNet or only Disney Jr.  SoapNet is going to continue being available to those companies who wish it keep it.  Eventually, (no date specified) it will be phased out.

It’s Disney Jr.  here 24/7.  It makes me wonder about the IIC of ABC to think that little pre-schoolers should be exposed day and night to cartoon type shows.  As a former teacher, I know it’s a very bad idea.

kids watch 24/7, only that it is available any time they DO want to watch it.  I think it’s the parent’s responsibility to monitor their childrens’ TV time.  So many of them use it as a babysitter.

I’ve read a lot of comments from viewers on this change and they are accusing ABC/Disney of caring only for the bottom line and not what the viewers want.  Well, DUH!  That’s what they are in business for, they’re not out to please us but to make as much for their sponsors as they possibly can.  The only way they care about the viewers is to get as many of them to watch as they can.

In the case of soaps, it’s getting more difficult to do that so they’re looking for a better way to get those sponsor dollars.  I’m afraid it’s going to be trial and error (ergo The Chew and The Revelation) for them until they realize they aren’t working either but, at least, it isn’t costing them as much as a soap does.  When they realize these two shows are dismal failures, they’ll probably go on to something else.
